During his presidency, Trump has lied an average of 169 times EVERY DAY.

[-] SeeMarkFly@lemmy.ml 41 points 4 days ago

85,654 false statements and counting.

[-] certified_expert@lemmy.world 13 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago)

The trick is to stop at 4,294,967,296

[-] marcos@lemmy.world 7 points 4 days ago

That's why you use 64 bits counters and identifiers.

[-] lonefighter@sh.itjust.works 11 points 4 days ago

I'm dead serious, I genuinely don't think I even speak 169 sentences a day and I work with people.

No one cared about the color of his suit...

They just picked stuff and claimed that was the problem, because it wasn't acceptable to say what their real problem was.

Continuing to not understand that, or "play dumb to point out their hypocrisy" is a waste of time and only helps them.

gullible broke uneducated maga voters would cut off their own arm if it meant that black people would suffer

[-] Triumph@fedia.io 19 points 4 days ago

New mission: make them think that cutting off their own arms will make black people suffer.

it would be 24/7 coverage for weeks.

Back then there was one issue and you could cover it for weeks. Or there wasn't anything serious so you cover tan suits. Now there are so many issues you could cover a new one every day.

[-] Eq0@literature.cafe 22 points 4 days ago

This is honestly what blows my mind. Sure, this should be first page matter under any other president. But so would so many other things that it doesn’t mean anything anymore

[-] lemmyng@lemmy.world 21 points 4 days ago

Bannon's "Flood the zone with shit" strategy is the one thing MAGA has managed to succeed at.

[-] marcos@lemmy.world 4 points 4 days ago

The press should shrink the articles accordingly to their number.

We would basically get a first page of large phrases.

[-] Zephorah@discuss.online 4 points 4 days ago

That is intentional. Bannon called it “muzzle velocity”.

[-] FistingEnthusiast@lemmy.world 16 points 3 days ago

Yeah, but 'Murica is a racist, stupid, hateful and profoundly ignorant place that celebrates selfishness, was founded on cruelty, inequality and genocide

They just spent 250 years lying to themselves and the civilised world about it, and too many people believed it

[-] WhiteRabbit_33@lemmy.world 22 points 4 days ago

The article for anyone who's curious. 385 accounts closed back in 2021.

[-] DJKJuicy@sh.itjust.works 22 points 4 days ago

100% "flood the zone".

The worst part is now that the strategy has been completely and utterly validated, they're all gonna do it. This is the new status quo.

[-] tacoplease@lemmy.world 11 points 3 days ago

Obama looked hella good in that tan suit, fuck the haters!

[-] Modern_medicine_isnt@lemmy.world 14 points 4 days ago

People voted for a criminal known for corruption. So it isn't really unexpected or a scandal.

[-] lemmy_outta_here@lemmy.world 10 points 3 days ago

Exactly. The media DID run lots of segments about Trump's illegal activities - in 2015, in 2020, in 2024. Fucking Americans voted for him anyway - god-damned 79 million amoral imbeciles. Another 85 million pieces of shit sat on their asses and did nothing while he got re-elected. Now he is persecuting his critics. Can you blame the press? Why report on Trump's crimes if you can be jailed or murdered by one of his goons just so millions of cretinous Americans vote for him anyway?

When the people elect a criminal to do criminal things, the press has no responsibility to catalogue his crimes. Trump's crimes aren't news - they are his public record as president. America asked for this - for the first time in 250 years, the USA has the president it truly deserves. People say Trump is a liar - what a fucking laugh! He is maybe the most honest politician I have ever seen. "Vote for me and you will never have to vote again." He told you exactly what to expect. Don't act outraged now.

[-] FreshParsnip@lemmy.ca 8 points 3 days ago

I've been watching Veep recently. At one point, there's a storyline where there's a data leak that outs a little girl with HIV and it's a huge scandal. If Trump's administration did that, it would just be another Tuesday

[-] BarneyPiccolo@lemmy.today 7 points 3 days ago

That wouldn't appear in ANY media these days, not even some podcast from some suburban mom.

[-] DarkFuture@lemmy.world 6 points 3 days ago

The best is the collage of pics of other presidents wearing tan suits that didn't cause a conservative meltdown.

P.S. Those presidents had white skin.

It was about bigotry. Always is with conservatives/regressives.

[-] BigBenis@lemmy.world 11 points 4 days ago

This should be unconscionable and yet it is just an average Tuesday.

[-] DarkFuture@lemmy.world 6 points 3 days ago

The night he was first elected in 2016 I turned to my friend and said "the bar is permanently lowered now" cuz it was obvious that it would be a race to the bottom from there.

I'm not particularly happy I was right about that.

We're almost assuredly never going back to "normal" politics. Every grifting piece of shit in the nation knows how far they can push the boundaries and personally benefit from the office of the presidency now.

[-] ConstantPain@lemmy.world 6 points 3 days ago

The media dictate to you what to care about.

The people who control the narrative using the herd effect to their own advantage.

Man they put out an anti-terrorism thing where they straight up said, "We will find you, and we will kill you." About Americans with a marginalized political identity (Anarchism, in this case), and it straight up wasn't in NYT AT ALL.

[-] quarkquasar@lemmy.world 10 points 4 days ago

I take it as a sign that things won't last much longer.

When the thing that's supposed to help keep the government in check is instead running cover for them, the top will start wobbling

[-] ftbd@feddit.org 9 points 3 days ago

That's very optimistic. History shows that once a regime is established, power is consolidated, the media is in line and protests are repressed, ousting the regime and rebuilding democracy can take a long time.

Russia had this level of obvious corruption and pillaging of state resources in the 90s, and where are they now?

[-] PalmTreeIsBestTree@lemmy.world 3 points 3 days ago

The good thing is states run elections and there is some avenue there to do what Hungary did.

[-] FreshParsnip@lemmy.ca 4 points 3 days ago

Still managing to hold onto the illusion that the magic legal fairy will come save everyone? Laws don't exist in nature, someone has to enforce them. Still people are persisting with the fairy tale that the law will automatically stop this

[-] ryathal@sh.itjust.works 2 points 3 days ago

The media hasn't been interested in holding government accountable in my lifetime. It was less overtly partisan pre 9/11, but that's about it.

What are the American People going to do about it? That is your answer.

Probably nothing but I'm hoping enough get up and vote to get control of the house and senate out of the republicans' hands.

[-] uriel238@lemmy.blahaj.zone 4 points 4 days ago

There's a resistance, but its struggling to organize a large population of sympathizers. The organizers are trying hard while they are still free.

You best hope they succeed, since the ultra-wealthy ownership class is proportionately richer than any other point in history. Enough that they can buy all the elections and control all the governments.

So if we don't effectively fight back, once they've finished gutting the US, they'll come for your society as well.

And we'll see what your people will do about it.

[-] Sanctus@anarchist.nexus 6 points 4 days ago

I am in the US. I am seeing that my people are so individualistic they can't organize. Have been taught helplessness to such a degree that we have been robbed so blind that must of us are poor and sick. Thats the tally. We'll see what we can make of it before the land stops producing food.

[-] DementedSociety@lemmy.world 11 points 4 days ago

God I wish the marksmanship pre election was better

[-] Itdidnttrickledown@lemmy.world 5 points 4 days ago

Trumps team didn't want someone with good aim firing a shot.

[-] uriel238@lemmy.blahaj.zone 6 points 4 days ago

PS, thanks to the internet, there's a fuckton of independent news media that is covering the CapOne money laundering accounts. If your news diet isn't covering it, it might be time to browse about for sources to add to it.

[-] CatalpaRed@lemmy.zip 2 points 3 days ago

That’s a lot of accounts! I have like 4 and wouldn’t be able to handle more.

[-] WhiteOakBayou@lemmy.world 4 points 4 days ago

This is a screen cap of the media covering the story though

[-] postmateDumbass@lemmy.world 4 points 4 days ago

Now the President has a tan stripe on his pants and people rarely say anything! What progress!

[-] Canis_76@feddit.nl 2 points 3 days ago

'cause he is the first ever ya know?

[-] chiliedogg@lemmy.world 4 points 3 days ago

It's clearly worse to be the first Black President than the first President convicted of felonies and held civily liable for sexual assault while openly accepting bribes from adversarial nations.

[-] daychilde@lemmy.world 4 points 4 days ago

You can easily find every single President from at least 1970 onward having worn a tan suit while in office.

The hypocrisy is exhausting.

[-] DarkFuture@lemmy.world 2 points 3 days ago

The ~~hypocrisy~~ bigotry is exhausting.

I'm on mobile for the moment, but for a good deep dive into this, hunt down the Behind the Bastards two parter on How The Liberal Media Helped Fascism Win

Part one gets into the Jewish owned German newspapers that sided with NSDAP because their owners identified more with ownership class than they did their Jewish working class brethren.

Part two is about the present day news media bending the knee to Trump.

[-] QueenHawlSera@piefed.social 3 points 4 days ago

The Media has accepted that there is no "busting Trump", they've given up trying to give him scandals.... They know they "don't have him this time", his fanbase will never care.
