People there are so greedy, so eager to lick rich people's balls, and so likely to throw insults and downvotes at you, if you give any hint that you support communism. It's honestly such a disgusting place, full of slavers pretending to be smart, kind and moral.

I got temp banned for hate, in like a minutes time, after saying the Soviets biggest mistake was elevating the Baltics to sapience by teaching them to read. Happened a little bit ago, but I found it hilarious.

The shit I see zionists and Eurolibs say on a daily basis about West Asians and Russians is openly genocidal but so somehow that was too much. The Baltics are never beating the reddit belt allegations.

If "lately" is last ~10 years.

Supposed reddit leftists are calling NK a “supervillain evil dictatorship” and literally explode in rage when I tell them that the US is basically that and North Korea does nothing wrong.

[-] KrasnaiaZvezda@lemmygrad.ml 7 points 1 day ago

It probably depends a lot on what subs you visit.

In most subs I use I can now talk well of Korea and China or in favor of Russia and Iran and people will agree, specially if I call out double standards and things like that.

[-] big_spoon@lemmygrad.ml 13 points 2 days ago

brother, why are you still on le r*ddit when you have le mmygrad? why rummage through garbage when you can look into the fridge?

[-] Daddogofdasink@lemmygrad.ml 7 points 2 days ago

ive always seen reddit as a cesspool: some good things can be found, but you have to dig through alot of shit to get there

[-] CandleTiger@programming.dev 4 points 2 days ago

I am still reading Reddit for a couple niche topics that Lemmy doesn’t cover. (RVs and Sailing)

And I keep reading about how Reddit it’s going to shit with all AI bots everywhere, but in my small subreddits I read, everything was fine.

But now the bots have come for RVs and lately all the posts are like, “So, fellow humans, does anybody want to discuss the pros and cons of the new Model XYZ trailer?”

So now I have one topic left on Reddit….

[-] trashxeos@lemmygrad.ml 16 points 2 days ago

I have no idea what reddit is like these days. I left when they shut down third party apps and honestly don't miss it that much. Occasionally there's some hobby related things I'll find myself wandering in from a search to find resources but I leave the moment I find what I'm looking for. I don't log in and I don't stick around anymore.

[-] Muffi@programming.dev 19 points 3 days ago

Nope, I left permanently the first time I opened the comments on a post about immigrants fleeing to Europe, and every single top comment (with hundreds of upvotes) was the most vile racist shit.

Reddit and Twitter have gone the way of 4chan. If you're still there, you're a part of what is wrong with modern online culture.

r/europe ?

[-] LeninZedong@lemmygrad.ml 10 points 2 days ago

back when I used Reddit, they were so rabidly anti-Romani that I was a bit taken aback.

[-] Emmi@lemmygrad.ml 13 points 2 days ago

If Europeans aren't rabidly racist against Muslims then they return to their default state; rabid racism against Romani people.

[-] Ronin_5@lemmygrad.ml 9 points 2 days ago

It's feels like there's less and less people using reddit recently. Especially in the left-wing subreddits.

[-] davel@lemmygrad.ml 31 points 3 days ago

Most of us left Reddit in disgust long ago and never returned.

Lemmy was created by communists seven years ago because of Reddit’s anticommunist moderation.

There are two explicitly communist Lemmy instances: Lemmygrad and Hexbear. Lemmygrad is dedicated to Marxism-Leninism,[2] and Hexbear is dedicated to left unity.[3]

TF happened to hex? 🫪

[-] novibe@lemmy.ml 3 points 1 day ago

After many struggle sessions it was decided Unity was a CIA psyop.

I have to add that it often disturbs me how absolutely angry people there are. People need to calm down. One person says something and the other goes into full rage mode.

"This bridge in Moscow looks cool" Reaction:"Putler, orc orc ZZ kill all blablabla"

Almost everything gets read as its said in bad faith. You like the famous stairs in Odessa? Be prepared to witness the appearance of ten larpers, which will escalate a topic about those stairs into "404-country" and similar stupidity.

This platforms dehumanise other humans so easily and its tolerated. As long as its not involve us humans, things can be however more friendly, subreddits like: geese, ducks, birdbutts, snails, frogs... you get it. But stay away from bridges in Moscow and stairs in Odessa.

[-] opiumfree@lemmygrad.ml 11 points 2 days ago

that anger over anything russian is a young lib thing. i was hanging out with my grandma and her friends and one of them mentioned how she went on a trip to russia and nobody exploded (this was the generation traumatized by soviets supposedly)

[-] amemorablename@lemmygrad.ml 24 points 3 days ago

My headcanon is that it took a hard right turn after the API / mod protest debacle. Prior to that, it was still bad in various ways, but I think it was more mask on liberal. Though maybe it goes back further, to when they started doing the quarantining stuff. That might be a more notable turning point.

[-] userse31@hexbear.net 22 points 3 days ago

They blacklisted r/fullcommunism for getting John Brown on the front page.

[-] justiceforcuba@lemmygrad.ml 23 points 3 days ago

They banned r/thedeprogram just for the reason of it being a communist sub some months ago. Reddit was already bad before that, but banning that sub cemented the fact that reddit is becoming a 100% anti-communist website.

[-] amemorablename@lemmygrad.ml 20 points 3 days ago

I don't know the history of it well, but didn't similar happen with a sub called genzedong years back, which had something to do with people making lemmygrad? I want to say that was back in the quarantining of subs era, but I'm not sure of the dates.

[-] sleeplessone@lemmy.ml 22 points 3 days ago

I used to lurk r/genzedong back in the day. It got quarantined (but not full on banned) shortly after the start of the SMO for spreading "misinformation" (read: the truth). I think it still might exist, but I haven't lurked reddit since then.

Lemmygrad existed before the genzedLong March, but the influx of users was pretty big relative to the instance's size at the time. Gosh, the threadiverse was so much quieter back then.

[-] pongo1231@lemmygrad.ml 10 points 2 days ago

They do still exist (in their quarantined form) but barely get any traffic nowadays. Interestingly nothing of the like from Reddit for the subsequent genocide apologia from Zionists however.

[-] Cysioland@lemmygrad.ml 12 points 3 days ago

People were really big mad about genzedong, I was in some discord and got a DM from discord about how participating in misinformation servers can get me a ban or something

[-] justiceforcuba@lemmygrad.ml 20 points 3 days ago

Genzedong is another big communist sub purged by reddit. My guess is reddit will start to end when even "softer" leftist and anarchist subs start to get banned, such as r/latestagecapitalism and r/piracy. This coupled with overall enshitfication will lead to mass abandonment of the platform, which will allow for a place like lemmy to replace reddit in the consciousness of society. Things tend to get destroyed when capital and profit become the main justification for them to exist; but it may take some years for that destruction to happen.

[-] GaryLeChat@lemmygrad.ml 12 points 3 days ago

Let us hope but also be aware that Lemmy.world is basically reddit and what many reddit users wander to when searching for an alternative.

[-] Cysioland@lemmygrad.ml 16 points 3 days ago

Those who were good left after admins actively antagonized reddit's power users. Only ones left are... not the best people

[-] ButtermilkBiscuit@feddit.nl 15 points 3 days ago

No, because I don't visit anymore

[-] Krinkil2705@lemmygrad.ml 12 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago)

I use Reddit for pr0n like the founding fathers intended and I haven't seen any weird shit lately, so I'm not disgusted yet 👍.

[-] userse31@hexbear.net 16 points 3 days ago

Getting temporarily banned from the whole site for advocating against occupied Palestine is what got me to delete the app.

[-] Meow@lemmygrad.ml 15 points 3 days ago

Using "licking balls" as an insult is misogynist and/or homophobic, don't do that.

[-] Cysioland@lemmygrad.ml 12 points 3 days ago

Yes, we're all proponents of mutually consensual ball lickage

[-] lightnsfw@reddthat.com 3 points 2 days ago

Licking balls is fine. It's doing it for rich people that makes it an insult.

[-] 201dberg@lemmygrad.ml 12 points 3 days ago

For me it's just sitting there watching people just have the dumbest fucking ideas about why things are wrong and what needs to happen. It's so utterly obvious but they are all so caught up in this idea that someone will magically just uncorrupt the government. The utter cluelessness and lack of critical thinking. Like they see cops kill people and talk about how they need to be tried and jailed blah blah blah. Tried by who? The very system that pays these bastards to be bastards? They really just cannot comprehend. They think that someone else is gonna come in and just fix the problems.

Literally right before coming here I saw a discussion about Texas moving to ban more THC products and a post was about some guy bringing up an argument to the Texas government about how this will just help the cartels. Thinking he can use this logic to stop it. Not understanding that like, that's literally what they want. They make it illegal, cartels ramp up. Crime ramps up. The GOP gets to further crack down on minorities claiming "look see the immigrants ARE all criminals" then use it further as an excuse to invade Mexico and other South American countries under the guide of fighting said cartels. It's so fucking obvious and they just cannot fathom it because they just have no comprehension of the world outside of their immediate little bubble of reality. So no, the Texas government isn't going to listen when your rebuttal is "you shouldn't do this because it will....give you everything you want..."

This is just one example but it's all over the site. It's so depressing seeing just how utterly clueless the average person is to how anything works.

[-] ComradeChris@lemmygrad.ml 7 points 3 days ago

It's the same story with every single social media platform. All of them optimized their content towards what gives the most engagement, which is politics. So every single app out there is doing political content now, and as we all know the average person is merely reacting to headlines without much deeper understanding of the issues at hand. It makes for a total mess and imo it's very important to curate the content you're seeing every day. I still use Reddit but I unsubscribed from the major toxic subs like /r/worldnews, /r/politics and /r/europe. I'm subscribed to explicitly left wing political subs but even then it can be a mess.

[-] Florn@hexbear.net 9 points 3 days ago

Not at all! Since they locked the old UI, I don't even lurk on gaming subs

[-] AnotherUsername@lemmy.ml 9 points 3 days ago

Bro that is why I am here. Reddit went AI crazy and I decided to opt out.

[-] Gorillatactics@hexbear.net 8 points 3 days ago

Im just surprised how little interesting to read there is.

[-] justiceforcuba@lemmygrad.ml 12 points 3 days ago

reading communist literature is too painful for muricans/redditors, since it leads to the realization that they are exploiters of poor people, and few people are ready to accept such thing

[-] opiumfree@lemmygrad.ml 7 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago)

honestly the only thing going for it is that u can still get banned from there quite easily (like i was). you SHOULD be able to get totally ip banned very easily from social media because it shows that the website is moderated and you can also be forced off and get a life. in 2023 i was banned from twitter and made a vow to avoid tiktok and instagram and it was the best time in my life in terms of screentime. now i would love to get banned from instagram but thats impossible. it’s a real addiction and i want off.

[-] rostselmasch@lemmygrad.ml 5 points 3 days ago

avoid tiktok

I tried it for the first time few weeks ago and I had to uninstall it the same day. The feeling of Fremdscham was simply to strong, hard to describe. Its nothing for me. Someone tries to do a sketch and simply fails then. Then some video of a grandmother, which made a screenshot of her profile, it was flying around and hearts and effects appeared. Followed by pregnant fruits. Maybe I am simply out of the loop. The worst part actually is the app performance, its bad. I could use it without problems, but it really needs more CPU cycles. The web version is truly awful, full of JS junk.

[-] Cysioland@lemmygrad.ml 4 points 3 days ago

For me TikTok is good in small doses, it's one of the better ways to get videos made by normal, regular people, and not professional content creators like on YouTube. But I keep mostly to the dog side of things

[-] Emmi@lemmygrad.ml 5 points 3 days ago

I browse r/slaythespire or some other games I play sometimes but even then it's barely much. I used to click on r/all and such back then but yeah it's basically dead to me.

[-] Jarmund@lemmygrad.ml 5 points 3 days ago

Then why complain here about it instead of... anything else?

[-] justiceforcuba@lemmygrad.ml 20 points 3 days ago
