Iran said on Monday there were no talks under way with the United States and no plans for any meetings, contradicting Donald Trump who had ‌cited talks he said would take place that afternoon as justification for calling off attacks.

Over the weekend Trump repeated a pattern that has emerged throughout the past five months: announcing plans for "massive attacks" on Iran, only to cancel them at the last minute.

Iran's Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Baghaei rejected the claim, saying no negotiations with the United States were taking place and no meetings were scheduled. Iran had no plans to host foreign delegations or send negotiators abroad in the coming days, he said.

So the US is running low in missiles...

[-] Mihies@programming.dev 43 points 5 days ago

And the neighboring countries are scared because they'll get the counterstrikes.

I find it genuinely astonishing that the US can declare war on other nations without giving any real justifiable reason, they can bomb them over and over and generally fuck everything up, causing global supply issues, and there are absolutely no repercussions at all from any other countries.

Some threats of promises of strong words, but nothing more.

It's genuinely bizarre to me.

[-] ILikeBoobies@lemmy.ca 19 points 5 days ago

Has the US actually declared yet? I thought they were just bombing for the fun of it.

[-] BarneyPiccolo@lemmy.today 7 points 5 days ago

It's not a war, it's an "Excursion," because he'd never heard the word Incursion, so he called it an Excursion, and EVERYBODY, including the media, just went along with it.

WTF?

[-] Lushed_Lungfish@lemmy.ca 4 points 4 days ago

It is a "special military operation" comrade! You must understand this!

[-] ms_lane@lemmy.world 4 points 4 days ago

Because it is?

It's an incursion to Iran and excursion to USA.

coming in vs. going out.

[-] chris@l.roofo.cc 11 points 5 days ago

Short of starting a war with the US no other country can really do anything but the US and they somehow seem to be adamant to let Trump do whatever he wants. I don't know why they would do that, but here we are.

[-] zarathustrad@lemmy.world 15 points 5 days ago

Just a reminder, Trump does not personally want to bomb Iran, he wants to profit from (money, power, influence) the people who want to bomb Iran.

Less, why are people letting Trump do something, more who is supporting and pushing him to do it.

They could institute sanctions, like Canada taxing American bourbon.

Iran doesn’t need weapons. They can just keep playing mind games with Donald Trump until he goes fucking insane.

I hate to admit that I find this incredibly entertaining

I also hate to admit that I miss the hilarious AI generated Lego videos

[-] DontTreadOnBigfoot@lemmy.world 24 points 5 days ago

Wait, this is the sane version of him?!

[-] random_character_a@lemmy.world 22 points 5 days ago

He means relatively...i think

[-] homes@piefed.world 9 points 5 days ago* (last edited 5 days ago)

That is what I meant, but only because I’m old enough to remember what he was like in the 80s and 90s

[-] BarneyPiccolo@lemmy.today 3 points 4 days ago

Iran has an entire team devoted to studying Trump's "psychology." They know they can't negotiate with him, because whatever they agree to today, he'll tear up or deny tomorrow.

Before he was president, at least one law firm had a rule that at least two lawyers had to be in a room with Trump at all times, because he would always later deny anything he had agreed to with a single lawyer. So it took two to back each other up, so he couldn't lie later about what was said in the meeting.

Iran understand how that feels.

Goes?!?!?

This war is yet another pump-and-dump scheme by the American admin. Tragic how many lives this is costing humanity.

[-] comrade_twisty@feddit.org 22 points 5 days ago

Most likely Trump wanted to nuke them again but got a stirn no from the generals AGAIN.

This happened before so it's not a joking matter. He'll definitely try again. He really wants to be one of the presidents who dropped a nuke.

[-] AmyAye@nord.pub 23 points 5 days ago* (last edited 5 days ago)

He wants history to remember him as literally anything other than a pedophile rapist.

[-] numbermess@fedia.io 10 points 5 days ago

I suppose he will end up being remembered as both. He is gonna be in a lot of awful chapters in history books.

[-] BarneyPiccolo@lemmy.today 2 points 4 days ago

More books, and masters and doctoral theses are going to written about Trump over the next 100 years, than any other president in history. For a guy who is going to firmly cemented in LAST place among presidents, his administration will be studied more than any of them.

Which is good, because their crimes will be well-documented, so future historians will know all about the Corrupt Treasonous Racist Pedophiles that were MAGA.

[-] numbermess@fedia.io 13 points 5 days ago

Let's see, who should I believe?

  1. The worst person possible who has never told the straight truth about anything
  2. Any selection from the set of all nouns excluding the one mentioned in #1
[-] flandish@lemmy.world 9 points 5 days ago

well yeah. this is a mon-fri war. gotta let the bros in the futures market prep for monday over the weekend.

[-] BarneyPiccolo@lemmy.today 6 points 5 days ago

Trump claims they called him up, and begged him not to bomb them. Again. I think this was the 40th time, no kidding.

It's nothing but stock market manipulation, and the media plays right along with it, even though it's obvious what he's doing.

When we finally take back America, and make across the board reforms, the media has some answering to do for the poor job they've done in exposing MAGA corruption.

This stupid cunt. All I want to do is refuel my car without taking out a second mortgage. Is that too much to ask? He thought he'd go in to Iran looking all tough and shit and all he's done is fuck everything up. It's high time Donny "fell" out a window... if they can find one wide enough.

[-] pelespirit@sh.itjust.works 4 points 5 days ago

Dookie Don shit the bed again.
