Humans are in charge of human civilization.

Shut my mouth when i know better but criticism is not appreciated

It really doesn't matter what you say when you argue with people on the internet. No historical evidence, statistics, political theory, or emotional appeal can change someone's mind.

Without getting into US politics, I think this country is going to have to learn how to resist White supremacy & nationalism the hard way. Things have to get worse before they can get better.

You can plant the seed of doubt though, and sometimes that is enough for at least the smallest of changes. That's why I enjoy getting e-gangbanged in l/Atheism. ๐Ÿ˜…

i've changed my mind many times after being shown new arguments

[-] balderdash9@lemmy.zip 7 points 22 hours ago

I'm speaking in generalizations here, but I take your point.

[-] snooggums@piefed.world 8 points 23 hours ago

This is also true in person. Unless the setting is one where everyone involved is intentionally trying to expose themselves to new ideas they will ignore any new information they don't want to hear.

You're not going to want to do it later. It will just pile up until it's unmanageable.

[-] UltraGiGaGigantic@lemmy.ml 2 points 5 hours ago

My standards will drop (again), and it will no longer need to be done. EZ

I do want to do it later. I prefer to clean in the morning. So I just go to bed and do in in the morning.

That I fucking need to pay attention to these lessons

[-] moonlight@fedia.io 11 points 22 hours ago

That it's safe for me to be seen as I am, and I need to show up vulnerably and imperfectly in order to move forward in life.

I struggle with rsd and anxiety among other things, and instead of learning this lesson I keep hiding away and not actually living.

[-] PonyOfWar@pawb.social 14 points 23 hours ago

That worrying about things outside of my control is entirely pointless. And that in the vast majority of cases, things turn out fine.

[-] starlinguk@lemmy.world 2 points 5 hours ago

Things have been turning out Not Fine for frigging years now. Do you honestly think climate change will miraculously fix itself?

[-] PonyOfWar@pawb.social 2 points 3 hours ago* (last edited 3 hours ago)

I was thinking on a way less global scale. Like people getting home safely, recovering from illness etc

[-] JohnnyEnzyme@piefed.social 3 points 13 hours ago

True in many cases, or maybe most of the time, but the way things are going, there really are a load of existential things at work to be both aware of, wary of, and take precautions against.

These are not the 'simple times' of even 20yrs ago.

[-] UncleArthur@lemmy.world 5 points 23 hours ago

Circle of Influence vs. Circle of Concern.

Put all your effort into the things in the former category because, however hard you try, you can't influence the things in the latter one.

[-] bloogoose@lemmy.zip 14 points 1 day ago

That people are more or less safe and trustworthy.

I don't understand why people care so much about what other people look like.

I'll never get it. But I don't think I've ever met someone who didn't like obsesses over their 'look' and go off about how other people are horrible for not looking they way think they should.

and I kind of lose all respect for people who go on their little rants about fashion, or teeth, or haircuts or any of that, especially when they like use it to boost their own ego how they don't wear crocs or something, it's so weird and petty and gross.

[-] k0e3@lemmy.ca 0 points 10 hours ago

The only time I care is when they should be old enough to dress appropriately and they choose not to

[-] justdaveisfine@piefed.social 13 points 23 hours ago

That I need to keep it simple.

I tend to make things overcomplicated.

[-] UncleArthur@lemmy.world 6 points 23 hours ago

People hate to receive unsolicited advice, however useful or well-meant it is. By all means offer, but don't force the issue if it's declined.

And don't say 'I told you so' if things end up going south, however tempting it might be.

[-] Elting@piefed.social 3 points 20 hours ago

How to drink water without choking on it.

[-] darthsundhaft@piefed.social 4 points 22 hours ago

Not taking for granted what I actually have. I constantly fail to live in the moment. I always seek more. Never satisfied with what I have. And I say I want a long term partner. lmao

[-] THE_GR8_MIKE@lemmy.world 3 points 21 hours ago

A lot of how I feel is normal and I don't have to belittle myself for feeling how I do.

[-] CultLeader4Hire@lemmy.world 3 points 22 hours ago

I like him cause he treats me just as shitty as my mom did and it feels comfortable

[-] AskewLord@piefed.social 1 points 18 hours ago

could be worse. you could just not like how any treats you.

[-] ZeroCool@piefed.ca 2 points 23 hours ago

Limited edition/novelty snack flavors are never good. No matter how many mediocre snacks I've had to finish over the years I never learn my lesson.

[-] papalonian@lemmy.world 1 points 16 hours ago

Snacks, maybe. Drinks? Oh, hard disagree.
