Buildings have become significantly more expensive to build, so only rich people build them in planned formats to make as much money as possible. Back in the day, regular people could build their own properties or afford to renovate according to their taste.

We do have multiple brilliant epidemiologists who give good health advice. You just need to understand who a credible source is and what people are trained to do. Eg. your typical medical doctor only receives 3 credit hours in nutrition. It's almost never their speciality. Just like you wouldn't trust an eye doctor to do surgery on your heart, you shouldn't trust a heart doctor to be intimately familiar with nutrition epidemiology.

The therapist needs to have some reason to believe that a person is a threat to you or someone else. One purpose of the law is establishing community standards. Even if a single family all prefer to do nothing about the abuse, the community as a whole does not want to tolerate that kind of behavior in it. So really, it’s not supposed to help. It’s supposed to punish, to try to stop the behavior.

They'd be limited by things like private property rights or a person's right to life and freedom, but other than that I wouldn't assume their powers are limited in any public place. The president has inherent power to do certain things (like maintain the army) that isn't derived from congress, and it's fair enough to conclude that maintaining the president's personal safety is necessary for him to be able to execute presidential functions.

We're only as strong as our alliances, which the current administration is destroying for really no good reason at all. If our allies abandon us, then we aren't protected from attack. Not really.

It really depends on the other person. Some people are just more intentional about showing their hostility than others. When I'm around people who are really well practiced in being kind to weirdos, I can believe they actually like me even though they hate me.

It depends on the fabric. A lot of synthetic clothes are now made to do well in the dryer. But if it's 100% cotton, it can be permanently ruined in the first dry.

It gets better the more familiar you become with it. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone in real life. There are parts that are just way too jarring.

It is mostly diet, though. Poor diet is the #1 cause of death in the US. It's not just a southern thing. The standard American diet is objectively unhealthy on a global scale. And when I say it's unhealthy, I mean it leads to premature deaths.

Japanese Curry (thelemmy.club)

It tastes even better on day 2, which I should’ve expected for a curry but somehow didn’t.

It’s Make it dairy free’s recipe but with tofu and shiitake mushrooms.

I saw recently they've cured Parkinsons for the first time, and I think HIV can be reversed now. So that's pretty cool.

Oh, and I don't know if you've noticed, but they fixed airport and hotel wifi. I don't know why I thought shitty wifi in hotels and airports was something I would have to live with for the rest of my life. It just always was that way, so I thought it would always be that way. But the last time I went on vacation, blazing public wifi at the airport and at the hotel. with video playing. We are the future.

This veganized recipe from The Plant Slant Non-vegan recipe here.

This was the first time I tried to make one of his recommended recipes, and this one was legit. I've obviously made overnight oats before, but the blending makes it more consistently sweet. And the chocolate topping making a snapping noise is fun.

Blended Oats:

1/2 cup oats

1/2 cup plant milk of choice

1 tbsp peanut butter/peanut butter powder

1 tsp chia seeds

1/2 tbsp maple syrup

1/4 tsp vanilla extract

Pinch of salt

Topping:

1/4 cup plant yogurt of choice (greek if you have+ like it)

Handful chocolate chips

1/2 tsp coconut oil

Directions: 1. In a blender, combine all the blended oats ingredients until smooth (~30 seconds). 2. Let sit for 10 minutes in fridge to set up. 3. Add a layer of yogurt on top of the oats. 4. Microwave chocolate and coconut oil in 30 seconds until melted and pour on top. 5. Let sit overnight in fridge.

Me: [Describes my assignment this term. It concerns a current supreme court case.]

Him: Wow, they're teaching you real ideas! That's something. That's how you make something of yourself in your field. What do you think about that?

Me: Uh? Regarding my brief or something else? My brief was just assigned. I haven't started researching it yet.

Him: No, that they're teaching you real ideas. Do you have an opinion on that?

Me: um, no? I like the assignment. It seems interesting.

Him: That's not good. You should have a take on that. If people don't believe in what you're saying, you won't be worth anything. You need to have a take and be able to argue for it, because that's what your field is paid to do.

Me: Well, no, the law applies to you whether you believe in it or not-

Him: No, it doesn't! Those systems were set up by globalists and Trump destroyed all of that. It's all worthless now. You need to convince people to believe in good ideas that make society better.

Voicemail at 4 PM Sunday: Someone dropped out. We have a spot for you off of the waitlist for tomorrow morning, but you'll need to respond very quickly.

Text message 3 minutes later: Yes, as long as [contingency] is ok, I'd be happy to be there tomorrow.

[No response]

Email 15 minutes later: Hey, I sent a text message, but I'm also sending a follow up email letting you know I'd like to come as long as [contingency] is ok.

[No response]

Update: I am good to go. The phone # I texted did not receive texts, so this is a lesson learned to call back when someone leaves a voicemail. Thanks everyone.
