had a similar interaction with another mod. they weren't applying the rules unilaterally and temp banned me. I pointed out the hypocrisy/favoritism. they decided to lift the ban. I said, no, ban them too. we both broke the rules. they did it begrudgingly, so I blocked the community.
I refuse to interact with a community where mods begrudgingly apply the rules they're entrusted with upholding. If I break the rules, so be it. if we break the rules we all are punished, no exceptions.

There is at least one instance where it was written as sapient in TNG. That was mostly for a joke, though. Specifically, there was a running gag in early TNG with Data getting a bit too into defining things and someone (usually Picard) would interrupt him with something along the lines of, "Thank you, Data, we get it." In one scene, Data is alone and only talking to the computer, which gives the line there.
