Plot twist: they can't navigate entire cities. Some very well maintained streets, maybe.

[-] WhiskyTangoFoxtrot@lemmy.world 22 points 3 hours ago

Maybe we should build streets especially for them, then. Except I don't think they'll need the full width of a normal street. With their computer-driven precision they could probably get by with just a couple of narrow strips of metal.

[-] zikzak025@lemmy.world 19 points 2 hours ago

And you could probably optimize traffic by increasing the size of the cars to include a lot more seats, or even standing room. Or even connecting multiple cars together for efficiency if there are a lot of other people who want to take the same route.

[-] toxicbubble@lemmy.world 13 points 2 hours ago

you're on to something 🤔 perhaps some type of rail that goes on the road for high speed travel hmm

[-] Mr_Fish@lemmy.nz 4 points 1 hour ago

Ah yes, trains, the logistics version of "evolve into crab"

[-] searabbit@piefed.social 2 points 38 minutes ago

People always complain about "reinventing the wheel," but it just brings me so much joy when the discussion inevitably ends in rediscovering trains as the ideal mode of transportation.

[-] deft@lemmy.wtf 1 points 19 minutes ago

Trains are good but trolleys are too

[-] jojo@piefed.social 3 points 2 hours ago

You guys need to watch Adam Something (or probably already do) 🤣

[-] green_link@lemmy.world 3 points 2 hours ago

we'll rename the cars to "pods"

[-] DupaCycki@lemmy.world 10 points 3 hours ago

Pretty sure some wooden planks in the middle would do wonders for stability and durability. Maybe some gravel too. Why has nobody thought of this yet??

[-] WorldsDumbestMan@lemmy.today 8 points 4 hours ago

I always wondered why Vampires don't just eat the salt.

[-] addie@feddit.uk 12 points 3 hours ago

Really traditional vampires are super OCD; one of the ways to get rid of them is to spill a big bag of eg. rice in front of them, and they'll spend so long counting every grain that they'll get caught by the rising sun. Salt ought to work as well?

One grain of salt, two grains of salt. Ah ha ha ha. Three grains of salt...

[-] hansolo@lemmy.today 11 points 3 hours ago

They have hypertension and it's bad for them.

[-] ol_capt_joe@piefed.ee 35 points 6 hours ago

Wouldn't chalk be faster, cheaper, and more wind-resistant?

[-] cannedtuna@lemmy.world 1 points 2 hours ago

You can do the same with ants and chalk circles

[-] 1984@lemmy.today 10 points 4 hours ago

Sure, or just a can of white spray paint. I assume it works too, if this does. I dont trust Lemmy random meme pics though.

[-] zaphod@sopuli.xyz 32 points 6 hours ago

But chalk is used for summoning spells.

[-] MrChewy@lemmy.world 7 points 3 hours ago

Thank you, a man of culture!

[-] franz_augustin@feddit.org 10 points 6 hours ago

And better for the environment

[-] surewhynotlem@lemmy.world 25 points 7 hours ago

You can hire Etsy witches for WAY more things than you think.

[-] NaibofTabr@infosec.pub 11 points 5 hours ago
[-] qarbone@lemmy.world 5 points 4 hours ago

I like to make my brownies myself. I'll figure out what else those witches can do for me

[-] DarkCloud@lemmy.world 73 points 10 hours ago

Self-driving cars cannot navigate entire cities. No.

[-] lyralycan@sh.itjust.works 17 points 8 hours ago* (last edited 8 hours ago)

From what I've seen self-driving cars can navigate a 4 mile pre-learned route from the showroom to the delivery truck co.

[-] SpaceNoodle@lemmy.world 10 points 8 hours ago
[-] funkless_eck@sh.itjust.works 2 points 2 hours ago

ATLien here. Seeing a Waymo ruins my day. Seeing one of the freeway my whole week.

[-] PwnTra1n@lemmy.world 12 points 8 hours ago

Yup waymos are all over the place in phx area. Teslas might not do it but that doesn’t mean nobody can. This isn’t even Chinese electric cars with crazy features as well

[-] peteypete420@sh.itjust.works 2 points 4 hours ago

Waymos in philly still have drivers, how about in phx?

[-] PwnTra1n@lemmy.world 1 points 2 hours ago
[-] SpaceNoodle@lemmy.world 3 points 7 hours ago

Tesla is an industry joke. Keep your eyes peeled for Zoox.

[-] anomnom@sh.itjust.works 2 points 7 hours ago

Phoenix (and LA) are famous for basically it having weather. These things are working well in Richmond, or Boston.

[-] AngryCommieKender@lemmy.world 3 points 7 hours ago

Phoenix has all their weather in Late Aug through Early Sep, in the form of monsoons and haboobs. Then again in late Jan through early Feb, in the form of frost and a light dusting of snow that immediately melts.
