American here.

Please know that this does not represent the average American on the street. When we had big wildfires Canada sent firefighting aircraft and crews and support staff and it saved lives. We haven't forgotten that, even if our 'leaders' have.

These statements are beyond shameful and they dishonor all of America. The American people do not feel this way or agree with these statements. Trump does not speak for all of us or even most of us, especially in this matter. Speaking for the average person on the street- we do not want to annex Canada, we do not want to threaten you with tariffs, we love Canada and we want good relations with our friendly northern neighbors.

Stay safe. And I'm sorry we are sending threats instead of fire crews.

"The man we elected to represent us does not represent us"... sorry, that's not how democracy works.

American here.

How much do you care about the average Russian, who hasn't done shit to overthrow Vlad and the oligarchy there for decades?

We need to do something about our domestic problems instead of going on the internet and grandstanding to the people we're harming about how "we're one of the good ones".

Seriously, let's have a modicum of self respect and stop begging Canadians to like us, and instead do something about the reasons why they don't.

[-] Malyca@lemmy.zip 1 points 2 hours ago

When you're right you're right. It's hard, especially for people pleasers like me to stop apologizing for shit like this but it's time to realize we're making things worse, not better.

[-] PlaidBaron@lemmy.world 3 points 5 hours ago

This is a surprisingly self aware and refreshing take from an American.

if i was prime minister i would say to trump strait to his face: "with that attitude? NOPE, no more waterbombers, no more fire fighters, not a drop water until you start being GRATEFUL for what we've done for you and your country. sorry, you blew it, and I think I've made myself abundantly clear". then walk away. and plus, by doing that the effort would be foccust on canada so there is less smoke!

[-] Foxer@lemmy.ca -1 points 1 day ago

Do you think Carney's going to do that? Carnie who's giving trump everything he's asked for so far and just caved on the Gordie Howe Bridge? Why do you think trump is doing this, he knows he can get whatever he wants at a Carney and look like a hero

I can post about a dozen more if you need to.

Turns out your no name influencer was wrong. The deal was leaked to boomberg and it does NOT include payment on the interest to the debt which carney had suggested, and it's a worse deal for us than we had. Mark Carney caved And gave a better deal to the president instead of standing up for Canada. As he has done many times in the past.

Well I'm sure the Prime Minister appreciates you're desperate efforts on his behalf to justify his actions against Canadian interests the facts are the facts

Do you burn down your own house when you have a disagreement with your neighbour?

Entire communities have been wiped out by these fires you know.

Person who doesn't understand how tariffs work, nor the US economy in general, threatens tariffs because he doesn't give a shit about the environment

[-] BlameThePeacock@lemmy.ca 59 points 2 days ago

While intentionally dismantling clean energy projects....

I've lost count of how many stupid things this asshole has said or done.

He's just one big fuck up.

[-] aarch0x40@piefed.social 19 points 2 days ago

You sound just like his mother.

[-] zeppo@lemmy.world 33 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

Does this POS really not understand still that US consumers pay the tariffs? Why the fuck would we pay extra for Canadian products and he thinks that it's charging Canada? So sick of this moron. I'd really like to know who told him about tariffs in the first place because they really shouldn't have. He thinks "ugh grumba mugga wunna punish country" and somehow that a tariff does that. What would it do - reduce Canadian exports? So what? Also note his instinct is to fine and punish Canada, not offer help. What a shitbag.

[-] AFKBRBChocolate@lemmy.ca 26 points 2 days ago

He likely understands, but counts on the fact that a lot of his base won't. "Hell yeah! Someone's finally sticking it to Canada!"

[-] EntheoNaut@lemmy.ml 17 points 2 days ago

You sir are correct.

He’s riling up his maga lemmings, insulting our good northerly neighbors and has lost the world’s trust and respect of the US for generations.

Our country has gone from decline to collapse under this administration.

We are fuxked.

[-] AFKBRBChocolate@lemmy.ca 5 points 2 days ago

You know, he's done SO much in that regard that it's impossible for me to believe it's accidental. I've never been one for conspiracy theories, but I just have to believe he's doing the bidding of a foreign country. EVERYthing he's done has been so good for Putin.

[-] bus_factor@lemmy.world 6 points 2 days ago

"Accidental" and "conspiracy" aren't the only alternatives. You don't need to start a conspiracy with someone this easy to manipulate. You just nudge them in the direction you want them to go.

A big reason why there probably isn't any conspiracy is that Trump would have blathered about it if there was one.

[-] AFKBRBChocolate@lemmy.ca 3 points 2 days ago

A big reason why there probably isn’t any conspiracy is that Trump would have blathered about it if there was one.

Yeah, that's true, except possibly if there was something that would destroy him. If they had hard evidence of crimes that even his base wouldn't swallow. He'd shut up about that.

[-] radiofreebc@lemmy.world 5 points 2 days ago

Putin, Xi and Netanyahu all have mountains of blackmail on him. He works for them.

[-] EntheoNaut@lemmy.ml 3 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

And China too.

Xi and Putin are laughing daily.

Our country was founded by colonial imperialism on the backs of slaves and the genocide of the indigenous people who lived here. Clearly Canada is much the same, historically.

As much as this hurts and sucks to be dragged down in, we deserve to burn.

The whole system needs to be rebuilt from the ashes. The oligarchs, corporations and billionaires need to be held to account.

Off with their fucking heads.

[-] Foxer@lemmy.ca -1 points 1 day ago

I don't think you get how it works. The American stop buying our products and start looking for other products. But most importantly a lot of the goods and services that are manufactured in Canada only are able to do so because they sell to America so when Americans stop buying that product it's cheaper and easier for those companies to just set up in America instead.

Trump knows this very well. More tariffs cripples are economy and prevents the investment we need to stay competitive or become competitive as we've fallen behind

This is just another excuse to try and bankrupt us to try and encourage us to become the 51st state

[-] zeppo@lemmy.world 2 points 20 hours ago

I understand he's trying to hurt canada financially, obviously. However, industries like fertilizer and timber can't relocate to the US.

[-] Foxer@lemmy.ca 1 points 17 hours ago

Well timber can. Our timber industry is already getting creamed. They JUST shut down another pulp milll last week here in bc and logging is in a death spiral. Fertilizer less so but we're not going to keep our economy going on fertilizer and oil.

And the problem isn't just trump, we've had 5 consecutive quarters... that's QUARTERS mind you not months, of more business investment leaving canada than staying and it looks like this quarter is going to be the same.. And the kick in the teeth is that pre dates trump. We were already weak to begin with. Now trump has made it worse and he knows very well that it doesn't take much at this point to make our economy take a nose dive.

This guy wants us poor and collapsing so that he can take over, actually take over if possible and financially take over if not.

[-] ohshit604@sh.itjust.works 12 points 2 days ago

Didn’t the Supreme Court of the United States declare his tariffs illegal?

[-] Archangel1313@lemmy.ca 18 points 2 days ago

Well then...Canada should just start charging the US for the cost of the wildfires, since they've abandoned all efforts to deal with climate change.

[-] wirebeads@lemmy.ca 13 points 2 days ago

Fuck Trump and fuck Americans. Fuck em’ all. Next time they need water planes, snow plows and hydro help, let em’ fucking deal with it themselves.

Americans are fucking rancid.

[-] EntheoNaut@lemmy.ml 1 points 2 days ago

Not all of us ya hoser!

At least a third of us are vehemently opposed to this authoritarian regime.

[-] adespoton@lemmy.ca 7 points 2 days ago

Wait… wasn’t Trump just complaining about how there was a US-Canada trade imbalance?

We’re providing the US with all this fertilizer at our cost!

[-] ryan213@lemmy.ca 8 points 2 days ago

We gotta start charging the US for that sweet, yummy, barbecue smell...

[-] darthsundhaft@piefed.social 6 points 2 days ago

Makes sense. The dumbass probably blames women for having periods. What a fucking lunatic. Somebody off him already FFS.

[-] puppinstuff@lemmy.ca 4 points 2 days ago

If we gave what we received we should be demanding a fund from the US to give it “protection” from wildfires.

[-] NottaLottaOcelot@lemmy.ca 2 points 2 days ago

Americans avoid reducing pollution and fossil fuel consumption because they claim that more populous countries are the real contributors, which would make their sacrifices a mere drop in the bucket. And yet simultaneously they believe that Canada, a country with an eighth of their population, is solely responsible for their air quality
