The FCC wrote in an April 2026 public notice, “Recently, parents have raised concerns that controversial gender identity issues are being included or promoted in children’s programs without providing any disclosure or transparency to parents.” It gave no documentation or number of so-called parents raising these “concerns.”

“Specially,” it continued, “the industry guidelines that parents rely on are rating shows with transgender and gender non-binary programming as appropriate for children and young children, and doing so without providing this information to parents, thereby undermining the ability of parents to make informed choices for their families.”

I mean, I guess there’s The Amazing Digital Circus, as long as you don’t look too hard at it.

[-] Sunflier@lemmy.world 2 points 3 weeks ago

They still haven't gotten over ABC's Modern Family.

Replace trans with any other identity and you will see how utterly ridiculous this is.
Imagine if racists started demanding a government-enforced "racial" warning for shows featuring non-whites. That's how this current era of anti-LGBT bigotry is going to be seen by people in the future, and we should be embarassed to let our society be associated with it.

Replace trans with any other identity

In Muslim countries:
This TV show contains FEMALE actors, Viewer discretion is advised!!

In Wyoming and the Vatican:
This TV show contains CHILD actors, Viewer discretion is advised!!

In Alabama:
This TV show contains actors that are family RELATED, Viewer discretion is advised!!

I think the FCC may be on to something, that these warnings may be necessary.

Why the hell are they so concerned with what's in other people's pants?

[-] cranakis@reddthat.com 14 points 3 weeks ago

They are disappointed by what's in their own?

[-] PattyMcB@lemmy.world 9 points 3 weeks ago

Not a bad theory, I guess

[-] lemmyng@lemmy.world 2 points 3 weeks ago

They (not-so) secretly want what's in other people's pants.

[-] ShellMonkey@piefed.socdojo.com 16 points 3 weeks ago

After all we wouldn't want kids to grow up thinking they should accept people different, ot maybe the same as, themselves.

People looking to have society help them maintain a message of hate.

I've long thought that every show that has a child in it should have a warning, because we know how most children were created, right? Of course, I would never mention it, and I am extremely disturbed that you are thinking about it right now! You will burn in hell!

'trans' topics is just 'people' topics.

the programming on fox 'news' and other similarly-themed outlets is what actually is damaging to not only younger viewers, but all viewers. how about warnings before, after, and super-imposed over the top of all that bullshit...

I cannot imagine being this triggered by something that's not too close to home. I think it's pretty obvious the reason why trans porn is becoming a top porn site search and it's a certainty that it's majority Republicans when they use title words like trap or shemale. Reddit is absolutely packed with these subs in every mundane search.

Ironically the supposed "massive increase" of trans or non-binary identification clearly doesn't represent the real population with this many closeted bigots.

... Audiences.... Like Republicans and other cults.

[-] Bluegrass_Addict@lemmy.ca 3 points 3 weeks ago

I ignore all the other warnings, signs, advertising anyways so really it's just more garbage to ignore. but I get the overall wtf no idea

Well the good news is broadcast networks are dying and the Republicans don't want the FCC to have jurisdiction over the internet (they killed net neutrality under the argument the FCC doesn't have a right to regulate it), so this will mean fuck-all to places like Netflix or HBO and most folks watch stuff on streaming services these days anyway.

Also does this mean any sci-fi shows with alien races who don't have genders will have warnings? Like it's just fucking asinine.

As in, if a show is transphobic or cisnormative then they'll give a warning, right?
