I just wrapped up three more of these things, what does everyone think?

The bottom half are various stones I've collected, with a layer of dichroic glass on top, followed by a layer of plain glass. I then cut and polish them. It takes a long time, but it's really meditative work.

I’d love to see how these are made. They’re very pretty.

Thanks! I'm planning on putting together a video at some point.

I like your fancy words, rock person.

Cool work. Would stare at in trinket store for extended time. Possibly even buy (I'm irresponsible).

Holy gracious sakes.... these are so beautiful... no words...
Where is it possible to find/acquire a few, if I may ask, to be shipped to Europe?

I'm glad you like them! I'm finally at the point where I can make them easily enough that I can start thinking about selling them, but I don't have a storefront or anything yet.

These are so freaking cool. Very original. What's the app. diameter of the longest side of the one on the left? Cold working ain't no joke. Beautiful.

[-] NotBillMurray@lemmy.world 7 points 7 hours ago

That one's about 3.5-4 inches wide, 1.5 inches thick, and about 4 inches tall. I really enjoy cold working, it lets me focus on just one thing and ignore everything else. Until of course it's 4 hours later, I'm cold, wet, hungry, and covered in silica dust.

[-] SatansMaggotyCumFart@piefed.world 9 points 7 hours ago

Make sure you wear a respirator that is silica rated because silicosis is no joke.

[-] NotBillMurray@lemmy.world 5 points 5 hours ago

Oh yeah, I like my lungs too much not to wear one. I eventually want to get one of those cool positive pressure hood/face guard things, but they're a little out of my price range at the moment.

Well, at least you have something awesome to show for it. I could never get into the cold working, probably because there was always a line around the block to use it since it takes so long. You must have your own set up. Regardless, great job.

My setup is a tile saw, a cheap faceting machine from china (don't buy them, they're garbage), and a wet polisher in a vice. I do also have a giant wet belt sander I got at an estate sale, but I need to replace the upper tensioner before I can use it.

Rules

AI Art: While we appreciate AI generated art, there are more appropriate communities to post that type of art to. Please keep posts to non-AI generated art only. This rule includes AI art that was then manually manipulated (e.g. drawing on top of something generated by AI).

NSFW Policy: Nudity and suggestive content has always been a part of art, but it may be something that some users don't wish to see or cannot view in certain circumstances (e.g. at work). If your work contains nudity or suggestive content, please mark it as NSFW. Work that contains nudity or suggestive content that is not marked as NSFW will be taken down. As long as the NSFW tag is used, we welcome nude or suggestive subject matter. If you aren't sure if your work is NSFW or not, just ask yourself, "Could I look at this at a typical office job and not get into trouble?" If you're still not sure after that, you should probably mark it as NSFW just to be on the safe side.

Spam: Please do not spam this community. Self promotion is fine if you just want people to be aware of your work, but blatant attempts at spam will result in the past being removed and possibly a ban. If you aren't sure if what you are posting is spam, please contact the moderator first.

Conduct: Be nice, and don't be a jerk. Constructive criticism is OK, but don't be mean. Encouragement is always welcomed.
