The term "leftist" is something I learned from the Internet, as neither the history books or the political education books in Vietnam use this term. As a result, I fail to discern Western Leftist from an average liberal, unless they talk like a Marxist-Leninist.

Finnish people weren't even white originally but Asian (look a some Uralic people), they look like that because over a millenium of mixing with Slavs and Norse. They were also nomadic or semi nomadic so in fact, they were the "Asian horde".
That is to say, if you look back enough, literally all of European people are also descended from asiatic hordes, indoeuropean migrations were a thing. So all this is bullshit anyway.
Do the Vietnamese have some form of warrior culture mythology? The cultural hegemony of white supremacist views is probably a significant factor. Vietnam has been really poorly represented under this hegemony. Most people only know of the country from US media portrayals that do not center any Vietnamese perspectives.

I've never seen anyone glorify Finland on the English speaking Internet. What are they glorifying about? I see them talking about Vietnam war, either leftists talking about how Vietcong smoked American soldiers, or rightwingers cope about "not a military defeat".
There's always been some of it around but after the Ukraine war it notched up a bit.
In the US most of the Baltic State admiration is for Sweden, ironic since Akkeson is running and he’s practically a Proto-Fascist

In American media, Vietnam and its war with the USA gets a lot more attention than Finland's Winter War. The Vietnam War is also the war that gets depicted as being a worthless imperialist war where Americans weren't a positive force and pushed a part of its nation's youth to the meat grinder.
The story is typically told from the American side, but what can you expect from the side making the movies?
