If Alexander's surname is Roshenko then surely his dad is the same?

In that case, why isn't it 'Commander/Lt Roshenko"?

Worf, son of Mogh, House of Martok, son of Sergey, House of Rozhenko, bane to the Duras family, slayer of Gowron.

Chamomile tea? Laaaame, what is he a Vulkan? Shoulda offered her prune juice. A warrior's drink.

Bit of a mouthfull tbh. Starfleet probably went with 'worf' cos the surname field was 25 chars max

[-] taiyang@lemmy.world 18 points 13 hours ago

Centuries in the future and government is still using a 25 character maximum for string data. Actually yeah, that tracks.

[-] Dionysus@leminal.space 2 points 13 hours ago

So the isolinear chip stores a lot of data...

Hell, Enterprise D's 3 Core computers we suspect to hold ~483,840,000,000 TB to 3,870,720,000,000 TB depending on which canon reference you use.

They could store Worf's full name.

[-] UpperBroccoli@feddit.org 2 points 3 hours ago

Yeah but then they have to fax it to corporate, and with such a long name, it's such a bother.....

[-] RiceMunk@sopuli.xyz 8 points 8 hours ago

It's not so much that the computers are incapable of storing it. Turns out the Starfleet records system just depends on a schema an intern implemented at the UN in 1997, and no one's had time to migrate it since then.

Had to make room for Riker’s porn folder.

And his music sheets for his trombone.

[-] med@sh.itjust.works 2 points 11 hours ago* (last edited 11 hours ago)

ZFS could manage that. You might have to split his name over a few files though :/

[-] jobbies@lemmy.zip 1 points 9 hours ago

BTRFS and immutability might be better, given how unwieldy it is and how often it changes.

Holder of the Sacred Chalice of Rixx, Heir to the Holy Rings

[-] Skullgrid@lemmy.world 6 points 14 hours ago

but that raises further questions. Why isn't it "Alexander son of Worf, house of Martok, house of Rozhenko"?

[-] Endymion_Mallorn@kbin.melroy.org 8 points 14 hours ago

Because Alexander rejected his Klingon birthright.

[-] Skullgrid@lemmy.world 3 points 14 hours ago

this continues to raise further questions. When? At what age is he allowed to do that? Source?

[-] Endymion_Mallorn@kbin.melroy.org 3 points 14 hours ago

When he turned 18.

[-] Nomad@infosec.pub 3 points 9 hours ago

Maybe its a warrior name you get when you pass into manhood. Nom de guerre... Son just has not earned his?

[-] jobbies@lemmy.zip 2 points 9 hours ago

I suspect you are correct.

[-] autonomous@lemmy.world 24 points 15 hours ago

The warrior formerly known as Worf, now just the symbol of a Bat'Leth

[-] homes@piefed.world 20 points 15 hours ago* (last edited 15 hours ago)

Worf, Son of Mogh

Through TNG/Early DS9. Later DS9

Worf, of the House of Martok

[-] ulkesh@piefed.social 7 points 15 hours ago

100% accurate.

[-] valar@lemmy.ca 2 points 14 hours ago

Alexander identifies more with his human upbringing, so he uses a more human name

[-] jobbies@lemmy.zip 4 points 9 hours ago

Fair but he's missing out on 'Alexander, son of Worf, house of none as he keeps getting shuttled about, bane of all that is interesting and fun... "
