Why isn’t that fascist piece of shit banned from entry in the Schengen area??

[-] teyrnon@sh.itjust.works 4 points 2 hours ago

Bovino is only 5 foot tall, so he rounded up three other of the shortest dudes he could find for this picture, how vain.

[-] 4grams@awful.systems 1 points 20 minutes ago

Those boots.. dude is on tiptoes, still looks tiny.

[-] Kwakigra@beehaw.org 1 points 1 hour ago

I looked up the event to see that it is indeed a literal white nationalist conference. I won't link it out of principal but the tagline for the event is:

Shaping the future of Europe and the West through sovereignty, identity, and demographic renewal.

What the fuck is going on? So that photo is for real? Am I dying? What's wrong with his fucking legs? That's not what legs do. Why does that guy have clown shoes? WHY?!

[-] teyrnon@sh.itjust.works 4 points 2 hours ago* (last edited 2 hours ago)

It's always sunny vibes, the pedophile uncle of charlie obsessed with his small hands, wearing fake large hands.

Bovino is only 5 foot tall so he's likely self conscious about his, er, sizes, and got some oversized clown shoes like whatshis face, the woke guy, Desantis. He did something similar with his boots to look bigger.

Pathetic.

[-] bold_atlas@lemmy.world 2 points 51 minutes ago

These people are like if Tim and Eric photo manips come to life. It's surreal. I feel like i'm stroking out every time look a politics feed.

I don't think he could fill out 23 centimeter long shoes.

[-] MadWombat@lemmy.world 2 points 5 hours ago

Just standing on his toes I guess? God forbid pepople actually notice his true length (or lack of it)

[-] protogen420@lemmy.blahaj.zone 2 points 6 hours ago

thats what happens when you skip leg day at thw gym and never go outside

[-] Gammelfisch@lemmy.world 19 points 20 hours ago

The same type of Portuguese that got their asses handed to them in Angola and Mozambique. The racist shitbag, Bovino, should have been denied entry into the EU or arrested and handed over to the ICC.

So they're opening up to lesbians. That's a step in the right direction.

That fascist Yankee has a dick thumb.

[-] wonderingwanderer@sopuli.xyz 28 points 23 hours ago* (last edited 16 hours ago)

Portuguese people HATE fascists. You don't even have to be that old in Portugal to remember living under a fascist dictator.

But I guess that doesn't stop the lunatic fringe.

Also, most Portuguese people look hispanic so I really wonder how an ICE-like force there would go...

[-] teyrnon@sh.itjust.works -1 points 1 hour ago

Portuguese people do not look hispanic, they can be swarthy, like all mediteranian peoples in southern europe. They are not all that swarthy either in comparison. Maybe they had some hispanics emmigrate, it's a minority.

[-] wonderingwanderer@sopuli.xyz 0 points 1 hour ago

Somebody's never been to Portugal...

[-] teyrnon@sh.itjust.works 1 points 1 hour ago

I looked it up too, after the fact, and I'm right. I don't know where you got that from, it's incorrect.

[-] sparky@lemmy.federate.cc 20 points 14 hours ago* (last edited 14 hours ago)

Hi from Portugal. Chega (far right) is a major party in parliament right now (1/3) and arguably PSD (another 1/3) has gone far right lately especially on immigration. So we basically have two out of three parties who are far-right.

One of them even talked in parliament about “diluting Portuguese blood” and “keeping Portugal for the Portuguese”, right before they voted to retroactively prevent all the foreigners from being allowed to apply for nationality, and prevent most of the southeast Asians from being eligible to renew their residency.

They are also talking about trying to amend the constitution, not to put anything good in there.

So uh, you sure about that?

[-] wonderingwanderer@sopuli.xyz 6 points 13 hours ago

Hi, thanks for the info. That's uhh, concerning.

I guess the far right is on the rise everywhere, but I would have thought it would get quashed when the world saw the US go ass up. Unfortunately, it seems I was wrong.

When I was in Portugal not that long ago, everyone I talked to seemed to be fairly anti-fascist. But maybe there was some selection bias at play.

I don't know what else to tell you. It sucks watching one's country slide into fascism. It sucks watching the world slide into fascism. I wish I had better answers than that...

[-] grranibal@lemmy.zip 3 points 9 hours ago

Hey! Another input from a Portuguese (without any meaningful information, just my vibes and feelings): Regarding your selection bias, up until recently I think a lot of people were ashamed of being fascist (I only met one teacher that said “… but our past dictator made Portugal rich!!!”), so most people would pretend to align with anti fascism. Nowadays it has been normalized and people yell bs without hesitating :(

I believe that we will have a fascist revolution before de-fascistizing the country. I just hope I can retire and live peacefully in a non-fascist Portugal :(

(Sorry if my comment is confusing, I just woke up and this post made me sad :( I felt the need to comment)

[-] wonderingwanderer@sopuli.xyz 1 points 3 hours ago

Thanks for your input. I always appreciate a local's perspective.

That makes sense I think. It's a lot like what happened in the US. The fascists were always there, but whether they were ashamed or not they knew better than to be out in the open with it. Now, they feel like they have permission, and its been masks-off.

I hope everyone gets to retire and live peacefully in a non-fascist world. I don't know how many generations it will be before that's possible though. I used to believe that good will always prevail, but now I'm under no such pretenses. The universe has no moral bias, unfortunately...

[-] sparky@lemmy.federate.cc 4 points 13 hours ago

Yeah, it’s not great. Seems to be a trend all over the world :(

[-] trackball_fetish@lemmy.wtf 3 points 9 hours ago

It's planned. Basically a decentralized neo axis. Thats the fun part seem to leave out regarding epstein, he discusses implementing governmental manipulation all starting at brexit.. I feel like a damn crazy person (well, more crazy) yelling about this but it seems like everyone's busy or just ignoring it

[-] huppakee@lemmy.world 5 points 16 hours ago

I feel like their racism is selective enough to consider Portuguese-looking Portuguese in Portugal as "okay" and Portuguese-looking Mexicans with the same exact skin colour in the US as not okay, does that make sense?

[-] wonderingwanderer@sopuli.xyz 3 points 16 hours ago

I don't know, all three Portuguese guys in that picture are white-passing.

Which, if it's any surprise, is more common among the upper-class in Portugal. Shocker, I know...

[-] phoenixz@lemmy.ca 39 points 1 day ago

Why is a concentration camp commander type asshole allowed to set foot in Europe?

Deportbthe fucker on arrival

Europe has, unfortunately, been inviting our trash in with open arms the last few years.

[-] NigelFrobisher@aussie.zone 6 points 18 hours ago

The right is slowly re-adding Hispanics to the list of “white” people.

[-] supersquirrel@sopuli.xyz 9 points 19 hours ago

Not really though, but they lean into that lie when it is convenient for them.

I honestly wonder if american white supremacists would consider Portuguese people to be white.

[-] MML@sh.itjust.works 1 points 35 minutes ago

No, I can tell you only 2/4 of those people in the photo would be considered "white" were I'm from.

[-] CyberEgg@discuss.tchncs.de 33 points 1 day ago

Historically, even the "whiteness" of Irish was not always a thing in the US.

  1. This is an English-language community. Comments should be in English. Posts can link to non-English news sources when providing a full-text translation in the post description. Automated translations are fine, as long as they don't overly distort the content.
  2. No links to misinformation or commercial advertising. When you post outdated/historic articles, add the year of publication to the post title. Infographics must include a source and a year of creation; if possible, also provide a link to the source.
  3. Be kind to each other, and argue in good faith. Don't post direct insults nor disrespectful and condescending comments. Don't troll nor incite hatred. Don't look for novel argumentation strategies at Wikipedia's List of fallacies.
  4. No bigotry, sexism, racism, antisemitism, islamophobia, dehumanization of minorities, or glorification of National Socialism. We follow German law; don't question the statehood of Israel.
  5. Be the signal, not the noise: Strive to post insightful comments. Add "/s" when you're being sarcastic (and don't use it to break rule no. 3).

  7. Light-hearted content, memes, and posts about your European everyday belong in other communities.
  8. Don't evade bans. If we notice ban evasion, that will result in a permanent ban for all the accounts we can associate with you.
  9. No posts linking to speculative reporting about ongoing events with unclear backgrounds. Please wait at least 12 hours. (E.g., do not post breathless reporting on an ongoing terror attack.)
  10. Always provide context with posts: Don't post uncontextualized images or videos, and don't start discussions without giving some context first.

(This list may get expanded as necessary.)

Posts that link to the following sources will be removed

Unless they're the only sources, please also avoid The Sun, Daily Mail, any "thinktank" type organization, and non-Lemmy social media (incl. Substack). Don't link to Twitter directly, instead use xcancel.com. For Reddit, use old:reddit:com

(Lists may get expanded as necessary.)

Ban lengths, etc.

We will use some leeway to decide whether to remove a comment.

If need be, there are also bans: 3 days for lighter offenses, 7 or 14 days for bigger offenses, and permanent bans for people who don't show any willingness to participate productively. If we think the ban reason is obvious, we may not specifically write to you.

If you want to protest a removal or ban, feel free to write privately to the admin that applied the rule (check modlog first to find who was it.)
