Locking due to rule 1

From their perspective, we're killing animals that don't need to be killed, to fill a preference we have for flavour. And they're not even wrong.

They're allowed to be angry. If it were easier to be vegan or vegetarian, I probably would be, and the only way that's going to happen is if people keep making noise and pushing for change. Which is what they're doing.

Anyone who is passionate about what they see as a moral cause will be insufferable to at least a few people. Passionate Linux and FOSS advocates are insufferable in the eyes of WIndows fans, for example.

It's not just vegans, it's just how human minds work.

When people are angry about injustices, they usually need a space where they can vent that anger with people who understand the sentiment behind the outburst and won't react back with stuff like "why so hateful" or "not all men" or "I actually love animals, especially with BBQ-sauce lololol" or "well schtatistically some races are just more prone to violence". Ugh.

Within these communities people can ventilate their emotions, and then go into the world (and witness the injustices) better regulated and not bring that explosive energy to people who may not deserve it or may not be able to hear it without misunderstanding it.

If you're not able to hear that type of rage without taking it personally or being upset or offended, I suggest those are not the communities for you. Not every community is. Let these groups have places for their rage, and be thankful they don't have keep that energy with them when interacting with the rest of the world.

Because people who care about injustices are firmly against the meaningless and cruel exploitation of animals, which is also a giant net negative for humanity since it's so incredibly inefficient (in terms of the energy you have to put into an animal to get a fraction of it back in meat/eggs/milk etc.) and (thus) a major contributer to global warming...

It's because self-righteousness is addictive and they need a fix.

I suspect you may be referring in part to my drunk meme from yesterday. For what it's worth, I don't hate anyone. I'm truly sorry our priorities differ. I just don't think there's an ethical way to kill someone who's done nothing to you, who doesn't want to die.

Why are people on the internet so insufferable?

There's fewer other communities to drown out any particular com than what you find on other sites. From what I've seen they carry the same energy as on other platforms.

You can always block them and move on if that's more your speed.

As someone who eats very little meat myself, I must say I've never managed to figure out that need for hating on people who do.

Well, I do understand it for what it is: a lazy and very cheap way to get the illusion of being somewhat better than 'the enemy', since it's a quasi religious war they're raising, whomever that 'enemy' might be as this trend toward hate is certainly not exclusive to vegans. But I cannot understand how it's possible for so many people to not realize what they're doing by playing that cheap game, what type of society they're actively contributing to build. Which is the real sad thing.

But hey, at least it's quite easy to block the most invasive specimens, and to filter out those annoying words they so much like to (ab)use.

Not enough protein

Because they are a religion, doing religious things. Their main goal isn't to stop harm to animals, but rather, to gain a sense of self worth by taking an unassailable moral position.

Hence, the people who make them angriest aren't the people who hate them - but the people who ignore them.
