exchanged gunfire

makes it sound like little gift envelopes. "I showed u my calibre please return fire"

[-] quarrk@hexbear.net 66 points 2 weeks ago

It’s reminiscent of headlines about Israeli missiles “finding their way into refugee camps” and other such euphemisms

the phrase that lives in my head is "kidnapped from his tank"

Us Americans love guns but none of us can shoot straight it seems

Well except the guy who ventilated Charlie Kirk

[-] ClassIsOver@hexbear.net 53 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

*Allegedly

We can't rule out the possibility that his neck just did that.

[-] SerialExperimentsGay@hexbear.net 15 points 2 weeks ago

Necks do, indeed, sometimes just do the weirdest shit.

Signed, a girl with medically dubious neck pain.

[-] electric_nan@lemmy.ml 15 points 2 weeks ago

Counting or not counting Charlie Kirk?

[-] Moidialectica@hexbear.net 15 points 2 weeks ago

If we are Charlie Kirk, and if we carry his flame, what will happen to our necks..?

[-] SacredExcrement@hexbear.net 13 points 2 weeks ago

The Deep State implanted a device in his neck and then detonated it

These lone wolves fucking suck at lone wolfing

[-] Infamousblt@hexbear.net 33 points 2 weeks ago

I guess the lone wolves only need to get lucky once? More proof that adventurism doesn't accomplish anything though. Imagine if all these cranks worked together how much more they would accomplish

fiber optic drone without any signature and 1000 km sq of search area for a suspect vs i take gun i shoot gun at 10 m sq area, best shot was at 90000 m sq. american adventurers are not intellectual to put it mildly.

[-] FALGSConaut@hexbear.net 18 points 2 weeks ago

Has there been a homegrown assassination/attempt using drones? They've been used to kill people for decades now but has anyone tried to use one in a credible attempt to kill a politician/other vip?

[-] Azarova@hexbear.net 12 points 2 weeks ago

Probably stretches the definition of homegrown but Ukrainian nazis tried to get an American Nazi teenager to kill Trump with a drone. He killed his parents first and then got caught on his way to pick up the drone though. Events in Ukraine has an article about it: https://eventsinukraine.substack.com/p/trump-assassin-part-i-the-misanthropic

[-] stink@lemmygrad.ml 17 points 2 weeks ago

Making a fiber optic drone is expensive, a lot of these cranks usually have guns lying around somewhere and it's easily accessible.

Plus making any kind of explosive is something that could go south real quick lol

[-] MemesAreTheory@hexbear.net 14 points 2 weeks ago

It can't be that hard to learn. I hear that nobody ever makes the same mistake twice!

Too much Law and Order

They think you can just shoot the president from five feet away and no one will notice because of all the walking and talking

[-] Awoo@hexbear.net 11 points 2 weeks ago

Is a fiber optic drone going to work in a city? That fiber trail you're leaving behind could get broken by traffic or a random person.

[-] plinky@hexbear.net 12 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

it hangs between the buildings/trees, but it could definitely. mr trumpo appears in golf resorts and political rallies tho, white house is wrong place to try anything, cause it's a building anyway, in the most policed city in the world

A juvenile bystander was hit by the suspect

I might get into polymarket betting on things like this, I would put down money that it will turn out the bystander was shot by SS.

The lack of detail also makes it sound like he was suspicious so they shot at him, it would be funny if he was just an average 2A guy, the sources say they witnessed a "visual print" of a firearm and suspicious behavior, and when they approached they allegedly exchanged fire. It would be unsurprising if one officer said he saw a gun so they just started blasting at the 'suspect' before he did anything.

[-] LeeeroooyJeeenkiiins@hexbear.net 49 points 2 weeks ago

"There was no indication Vance was a target"

since when do cops do you favors downgrading potential motives when they could just call it an assassination attempt and lock them up forever

[-] NephewAlphaBravo@hexbear.net 40 points 2 weeks ago

"oh yeah even we don't think that dickhead is important enough to kill"

Welcome to c/news! We aim to foster a book-club type environment for discussion and critical analysis of the news. Our policy objectives are:

We ask community members to appreciate the uncertainty inherent in critical analysis of current events, the need to constantly learn, and take part in the community with humility. None of us are the One True Leftist, not even you, the reader.

Newcomm and Newsmega Rules:

The Hexbear Code of Conduct and Terms of Service apply here.

  1. Link titles: Please use informative link titles. Overly editorialized titles, particularly if they link to opinion pieces, may get your post removed.

  2. Content warnings: Posts on the newscomm and top-level replies on the newsmega should use content warnings appropriately. Please be thoughtful about wording and triggers when describing awful things in post titles.

  3. Fake news: No fake news posts ever, including April 1st. Deliberate fake news posting is a bannable offense. If you mistakenly post fake news the mod team may ask you to delete/modify the post or we may delete it ourselves.

  4. Link sources: All posts must include a link to their source. Screenshots are fine IF you include the link in the post body. If you are citing a Twitter post as news, please include the Xcancel.com (or another Nitter instance) or at least strip out identifier information from the twitter link. There is also a Firefox extension that can redirect Twitter links to a Nitter instance, such as Libredirect or archive them as you would any other reactionary source.

  5. Archive sites: We highly encourage use of non-paywalled archive sites (i.e. archive.is, web.archive.org, ghostarchive.org) so that links are widely accessible to the community and so that reactionary sources don’t derive data/ad revenue from Hexbear users. If you see a link without an archive link, please archive it yourself and add it to the thread, ask the OP to fix it, or report to mods. Including text of articles in threads is welcome.

  6. Low effort material: Avoid memes/jokes/shitposts in newscomm posts and top-level replies to the newsmega. This kind of content is OK in post replies and in newsmega sub-threads. We encourage the community to balance their contribution of low effort material with effort posts, links to real news/analysis, and meaningful engagement with material posted in the community.

  7. American politics: Discussion and effort posts on the (potential) material impacts of American electoral politics is welcome, but the never-ending circus of American Politics© Brought to You by Mountain Dew™ is not welcome. This refers to polling, pundit reactions, electoral horse races, rumors of who might run, etc.

  8. Electoralism: Please try to avoid struggle sessions about the value of voting/taking part in the electoral system in the West. c/electoralism is right over there.

  9. AI Slop: Don't post AI generated content. Posts about AI race/chip wars/data centers are fine.
