Good removal. Why doesn't X highlight issue Y is virtually never a constructive comment.
If anything, it tends to be a wsy to put X and Y in the same sentence.
I'm just gonna take a wild guess here.
Could it be because it's a parody of the US and not a parody of Israel?
Well considering the United States is basically a puppet state of Israel at this point it seems relevant.
You may certainly think so. But believe it or not, The Boys isn't a documentary, and Homelander would rather burn Israel to the ground than to take orders from them so. It just doesn't make sense, at all.
The entire show is a parody/critique of American imperialism, white supremacy and ridiculous Western narratives. Politics and ideology are the core of the show, lol. I understand "rules are rules" (I'm not in the spectrum like that but I understand for many people that's where their thinking stops) but they do seem ridiculous in this community. I'd get it if it was a subreddit about a cooking show or a sci fi drama, but not when it comes to The Boys.
TBF, I think the show also skirts around the problematic Israeli entity (even though it's a core component of American imperialism and Western supremacy as a whole), and I assume the comics do as well, so whatever. There are Western countries today in which being an anti-Zionist is illegal so idk if we should expect that much from The Boys. IMO, it's enough that they parody America. 🤷
Also it was written well before Israel was at the forefront of politics in the US. The relationship has been there for decades, but took a back burner to well everything else the US was doing at the time. Like the 20+ year misadventure to Afghanistan/Iraq.
Which don't get me wrong the whole political situation even then was at least influenced by the formation and continued support for Israel, but it was definitely less obvious to the average person then.
I think its precisely that other countries are criminalising speech around israel, that it would be relevant to the show. However, I'd say they are cautious to have a Jewish superhero thats in the same vein as homelander but requiring homelanders support. They did have a muslim bomber though, so maybe it just wasn't relevant to the story they want. Or that's the line Amazon have made.
Can you parse "saybthwybare" for me? The rest of your fatfingered mistakes I can understand, but this one escapes me.
Done
Say they are - Not OP, just fat fingered
There's been a (perceptual not something I've measured) increase in Reddit type conduct by some users here on Lemmy. Personally, I've not experienced or observed any mods here acting like Reddit mods. Thank goodness. I really like this place.
Thankfully I have the same experience, but based on what other users have been saying, there are definitely some different mods/servers out there. I doubt roasting Putin on a .ml instance would leave you unscathed 100% of the time.
I find it hard to believe you have not interacted with a lemmy.world instance somewhere on this platform.
Oh no! You're trying to post politics in a sub that doesn't want it.
Womp womp.
Maybe read the rules? It's number 7, fyi.
Typical redditor moment.
Imagine not allowing politics in a show that is openly political in a very contemporary sense, even going to far as to reference real life political figures on a semi-regular basis.
I chalk it up to the place being run mostly by people who identify with Homelander and Stormfront and not any of the protagonists.
I mean I get what youre going for, but I also get the mods. If it wasn't blocked as a rule the reddit would probably devolve into "Homelander vs starlight" but on a political level. People just like the show, they don't need the whole American political system turning the reddit into a ideals battle.
Them hiring a remorseless ex-IDF soldier only makes it worse.
Tomer Capone did serve in the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF). Like most Israeli citizens, he completed mandatory military service , which is required for Israeli nationals.
And he seems to have little to no remorse for his actions. Just following orders is not an excuse.
He had a fucking mental breakdown... One side mocked him: called him a pussy and a coward and he just wanted to quit. The other side criticizes him for doing his mandatory duty.
Dude just can't win. SMH.
Why the fuck should he get to win?
A new car!? 🚗
I've seen his interviews, he focuses on his PTSD, the "I saw terrible things" side, not the "I did terrible things" side.
And again, just following orders is not an excuse. It doesn't matter that it was mandatory. It wasn't an excuse for the nazis, it's not an excuse here.
