Carroll said investigators believed the suspect was armed with a shotgun, a handgun and knives. He also said the suspect was believed to have been a guest at the hotel.
It amazes me that there has been four (I think?) close-ish attempts on this man's life in the last decade, three in the last two years, and things like this still get through.
It’s almost like it’s planned in advance, and that the secret service is letting these people through on purpose. Aww shucks, what do I know? I’m just a guy with two functioning eyeballs…
Get those ratings back up!
I'd imagine that there are untold numbers of assassination attempts that are stopped early by the Secret Service that we never hear of.
Most of the attempts on Trump have come at his rallies or from him golfing. Basically, I think he gives assassins way more chances than other presidents did because he doesn't really do his job and just does a bunch of other things in public.
So, it's probably a game of numbers. He makes it easier for assassins to target him. His security team gets fatigued from overwork. He's bound to have more close calls than presidents who actually follow the recommendations of their security detail.
There's also the possibility that Trump's secret service detail may also be more inept over all. Like if you had to be around that dipshit 24/7 you'd need an all overriding sense of duty or have to be a sycophant to put up with him since I can't imagine he treats any of them with respect and sycophants aren't known for competency. Like all the competent guys are probably on other people's detail, are on perimeter, or are doing currency shit.
And it seems like there is a possibility that the suspect didn't shoot the secret service agent, but rather he was hit by friendly fire. The press was very careful to avoid claiming the president's men shot the agent.
When also considering the fact that the suspect was not hit, I'm leaning toward friendly fire.
Honestly wouldn't be the most egregious instance of friendly fire in history. Hitting a moving target is hard and handguns do have an accuracy issue since you can't brace the gun with your whole arm, but I guess that's one of the reasons body armor was invented. Still better than that time an A-10 butchered a friendly British convoy.
Anyone who's spent time in any institution will tell you that corruption is a cancer, whether it's just saying "good enough" on shoddy work that'll barely hold together, or deciding "close enough" when arranging security for a formal dinner of political figures and journalists. If you don't cut it out, it becomes part of the culture and nobody thinks twice.
All of Trump's political appointees have been completely inept, so who knows? It's weird that a guy who hosted a show about finding the best apprentice to hire is maybe one of the stupidest people in the world when it comes to hiring.
There's a reason they replaced him with Arnold Schwarzenegger, Trump was simply too inept.
It didn't "get through". They didn't even make it to the same floor of the hotel.
I know, we’re all really disappointed. You don’t have to rub it in.
Hey ... cheer up. One of these days, when a hand lays firmly on his shoulder to escort him from the room, it will be the cold and boney grip of Death.
And if we're lucky, it will be on live streaming broadcast.
You've got to imagine that by this point some people are just letting stuff slide in the hopes of just getting it over with already.
Guy thinks he's Jesus, i doubt he's got the tightist security
I can imagine the Netflix special feature film presentation of "The last dinner! - a last souper avenged!". Three years prior, the guy is planning it all out "....what a fool! Ofcourse! A knife! No, wait! Several knifes! OK that's settled then.... Its a dark comedy. Will be, I'm sure.
I don't believe anything Trump's government says.
I hope that all those media people who were at the dinner realize that we don’t give a shit about their safety either. They’re all part of the same corrupt oligarchic project.

But DC is the safest city in the US
