It's wild and wet out there. Not sure where little dude goes in bad weather because it's not home. I bought bedding straw to put in the round plastic bin I have and a tarp for now. Hopefully set up a dry area tomorrow

[-] StudChud@aussie.zone 6 points 3 weeks ago

Aw puss will be alright. They're tough little guys, true survivors. I'm sure he'll be rapt with the straw :3

Iโ€™m so enjoying having functional internet. I didnโ€™t for most of yesterday

[-] MeanElevator@aussie.zone 9 points 3 weeks ago

Neighbour is dogsitting an Australian shepherd this week. The dog's owner is a mutual friend.

Neighbour had to run errands today and the dog is crying. Messaged neighbour that I'm taking the dog to my house (have keys to his joint) and he can stay out longer.

Doggo is snoozing on the couch right now and has made himself at home.

[-] Thornburywitch@aussie.zone 5 points 3 weeks ago

I understand there's a connection with the Basque sheepherders of early California - I believe they were the first to develop the breed. Only reasonable I reckon to call a dog with absolutely NO connection to Australia an Australian Shepherd. We already had kelpies and heelers so not needed by us as working dogs.

Happy birthday YarraByte! Thanks Melba for the thread. I see YarraByte is off celebrating today

[-] tombruzzo@aussie.zone 8 points 3 weeks ago

Pizza time at work today because we work off a whack ass financial year here

[-] MeanElevator@aussie.zone 7 points 3 weeks ago

Not gonna lie. Trackies and hoodie this morning is 100% my vibe.

Pity we're back to high 20's next week.

[-] RustyRaven@aussie.zone 7 points 3 weeks ago

I ventured to the local NQR store for the first time today. I'm not sure if I like going there for the value or because they have different things to buy. I've stocked up on salmon, in the form of both burgers and frozen cooked chunks. I also got some turkey schnitzels and a frozen veg mix.

There was one small mess up - I thought I was buying a bottle of shampoo and two of conditioner, but it was actually two shampoos and one conditioner. As I always use the conditioner quicker this will lead to a significant imbalance.

Got my first bunting from Sammy today, and Cerys gave them their first hiss (not a bad one, she zoomed forward to eat a snack they'd accidentally bunted under the door and they were all up in her business so she said back off. Ears up and tail unfloofed). They also saw the electronic shutters open for the first time today and it blew their kitty minds

[-] melbaboutown@aussie.zone 5 points 3 weeks ago

Bunting already, happy boy.

[-] Taleya@aussie.zone 4 points 3 weeks ago

oh he's full on cuddling at this point. Pick him up and he lies across my chest, head on my shoulder purrr purrr purr.

Most animals tend to do that anyway, IDK why but everyone loves the boobies.

[-] melbaboutown@aussie.zone 4 points 3 weeks ago

Yup. Obviously I wonโ€™t be posting the (clothed) pics but I have selfies of Melbcat full on hugging a boob. I think itโ€™s a mumcat memory

Puffer jackets are blooming in the streets of this town like flowers in springtime. Tho I did see one holdout wearing shorts & thongs - with a puffer jacket on top. People are weird.

Has anyone had a โ€œcanker soreโ€ on their tongue before? I just woke up with this sore yesterday. Eating has now become a painful experience. Food has to be in liquid form to go down and even then it still hurts. Booked in with the doc for later today.

Dinner will need to be some kind of soup.

Stress caused apparently, itโ€™s amazing how much stress messes up our physical health too.

[-] Taleya@aussie.zone 4 points 3 weeks ago

yup.

Xylocaine. Gel. not ointment. Safe for oral use. Available at chemist. will numb like the dickens.

[-] melbaboutown@aussie.zone 4 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago)

Rub some Vegemite on it, that stings but can help. Or get some Chlorofluor oral gel from the chemist.

Make sure youโ€™re up on B12 (so Marmite might be a better choice of spread)

Dog sitting update.

Neighbour asked me if it's okay if him and his missus stay out till late and can dog stay here.

I benevolently agreed....not letting onto that the dog has been walked, fed and is currently snuggled up to me on the couch.

I'm sleeping on the couch tonight it seems.

Iโ€™ve had a pleasantly productive day at work (a nice change from this weekโ€™s programming) and have footy tickets tonight.

Ver good

[-] melbaboutown@aussie.zone 6 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago)

I definitely bought way too much tarp for my needs... I've quickly secured it the best I can but that thing is billowing like a spinnaker. It's probably not going to stay. Adjustments will have to be made to redirect the water runoff or prevent pooling too.

spoilerGetting shit done but vividly recalling the feeling of a sick sooky Melbcat burrowing her soft head into the crook of my neck for comfort.

Yeah this tarp has liberated itself from half the clamps and tried to sail the world. The sheer size of it lets it catch too much air. Itโ€™s also released a flap thatโ€™s in the way of where he jumps out of the yard.

Will try to order a couple of shitty Kmarget tarps and reassess.

[-] Seagoon_@aussie.zone 5 points 3 weeks ago

Today is the worst day to have a tarp outside

[-] melbaboutown@aussie.zone 5 points 3 weeks ago

It was wanting to go around the world in 80 days

If the wind dies down a little I might nip on down to the close beach to see what the storms have brought in.

no rain might also be good

At least the ramen slaps.

"Turn the Lights Off" came onto the work radio right as I poured a bright green drink into a red solo cup. Could almost pretend I wasn't at work for a moment.
