lathe-of-heaven Vintage Pizza Hut makes a return. Donald Trump stars in Gorbachev-style Pizza Hut ad.

I honestly believe Millenials are the biggest suckers for nostalgia shit. It's a bit embarrassing.

[-] Belly_Beanis@hexbear.net 18 points 2 days ago

Have you seen Boomers with their Disney and Beatles memorabilia? Or Forrest Gump? I think nostalgia suckers are spread across generations. And it's not like you're gonna see nostalgia marketing for Zoomers because 1) they're like 25; and 2) they don't have any money.

Is Gen X nostalgia even a thing compared with boomer and millennial nostalgia? We haven't exactly seen a Cheers reboot or a Happy Days revival.

Mostly Star Wars. The prequels were definitely pandering to them when they came out. A lot of music, too. Especially '80s music.

Wouldn't Stranger Things also qualify (I have not watched it, I'm afraid; just heard a lot of 80s nostalgia)?

We did get a Frasier reboot.

Frankly you sound a bit upset over something pretty silly.

Frankly it sounds like you're taking good faith criticism in bad faith because it disagreed with you. Show a little respect for our comrades, man.

Maybe clarify tone before accusing. Automatically assuming the worst intention behind a comment and reacting based on that makes online communities worse places.

[-] Belly_Beanis@hexbear.net 3 points 2 days ago

I am upset there isn't enough beanis nostalgia slop in mainstream media.

[-] Le_Wokisme@hexbear.net 14 points 2 days ago

nostalgia is on a cycle of each age group having money to milk

I wonder if part of it has to do with us being some of the first to really have things like home taping preserving the near-past in a more visual way. I also kind of think about the whole "promised a place in a society that ultimately ended up tearing itself apart rather than let us in" thing, too.

They're a lot worse than Gen X, who don't get pandered a whole lot in comparison. You could tell by how so many sitcoms that Gen X have watched haven't seen a reboot or a revival or a cinematic universe. The A-Team basically got a movie in 2010 and that was it.

Gen x is the real silent generation

[-] TreadOnMe@hexbear.net 4 points 2 days ago

Ehhh, Gen X alt and grunge culture is still a basic mainstay in mainstream bullshit. It's a different kind of nostalgia. Like there are a lot of genres, like reality TV, which are all just Gen X bullshit for the modern era.

[-] Frogmanfromlake@hexbear.net 1 points 2 days ago

They definitely seem more impassioned than other generations have with their reactions to nostalgia pandering.

Ayce pizza is like 1 pizza, maybe 2. Thats an even worse scam than regular buffets

CW for meat?

I haven't eaten meat in nearly 20/years but I've never seen that before

It's a Hexbear rule from when /r/vegancirclejerk was going to move over here en masse expecting a ban on Reddit, and didn't end up moving over. And also didn't get banned on Reddit.

However, it did cause a whole bunch of people getting extremely mad at each other, and this was the compromise: vegan gang sticks to calling everybody else bloodmouth carnistremoved murderers only on their vegan communities, and everybody else is banned from vegan communities but adds content warnings to posts that talk about food. We have lived in harmony under these rules for many years now.

In that case, fair call. Gotta keep the balance and do what works

Breadtube if it didn't suck.

Post videos you genuinely enjoy and want to share, duh. Celebrate the diversity of interests shared by chapochatters by posting a deep dive into Venetian kelp farming, I dunno. Also media criticism, bite-sized versions of left-wing theory, all the stuff you expected. But I am curious about that kelp farming thing now that you mentioned it.

Low effort / spam videos might be removed, especially weeb content.

There is a cytube that you can paste videos into and watch with whoever happens to be around. It's open submission unless there's something important to commandeer it with at the time.

A weekly watch party happens every Saturday (Sunday down under), with video nominations Saturday-Monday, voting Monday-Thursday. See the pin for whatever stage it's currently in.
