Melbcat is going back to hospital for iv fluids. But it’s not looking good.

Edit: They’re saying it’s acute kidney injury from a uti on top of the chronic condition so they’ll try to clear it. One vet was pessimistic and the other optimistic so I really don’t know.

I think they’re each talking about short term vs long term outcomes. The hospital is trying to clear up the resistant infection in hopes she can recover from the acute kidney damage (though the chronic damage is permanent). They may stabilise her this time, I really hope so, but as the pessimistic vet said this could become a cycle and then it’s a question of how far to take it.

Oh no. Keeping you both in my thoughts.

ohh poor kitty.

🫂

I'm so sorry to hear that. Uncertainty and waiting are really hard to deal with. When my dog was going through something similar I had to take a week off work because I just couldn't focus on anything. Be kind to yourself and try not to put too much pressure on yourself to do anything at the moment.

There are some people at the vets consulting on a 57 year old cockatoo.

Turns out the insurance company and the dealership have very different definitions about what "delivering" a car is. Last minute dash in the pelting rain from Frankston to Preston (and a dealership I would never, ever choose because wow) and Yasi the grey i30n is home with me. Last second worry aside, I definitely came out on top and tbh, would recommend Budget Direct to anyone who needed car insurance. Cannot believe how unbelievably kind, upbeat and friendly everyone I spoke to was, across multiple teams. Happy to be DONE with this!!!

Alone time dins:

Now the question that keeps me up at night is where should the tomato go. Above the lettuce but below the patty, or above the patty potentially inundating the top part of the bun.

[-] Seagoon_@aussie.zone 5 points 2 months ago

like this

mustard or tomato sauce, lettuce, patty, cheese, egg, bacon, tomato

Made it down the bellarine w/ about 10mins to spare until it poured.

EVERY downpipe was overflowing. Walked around the downpipes and PANIK.

Flushed the system when it was shitting down and that fixed most of it.

[-] Seagoon_@aussie.zone 5 points 2 months ago

I have to steal that 🙀

I use Google photos to backup my pics and every now and again it'll give me something like this.

[-] Bottom_racer@aussie.zone 9 points 2 months ago

Big thanks to everyone yesterday for the advice and support.

Gonna take a breather and head down the bellarine and look at gutters / downpipes in the rain. Seems about the most productive thing I can do atm.

Watch out for clowns

[-] Seagoon_@aussie.zone 8 points 2 months ago

YESSS

one more nagging task done 👍I can do this. 🙂

also, as part of my UnKAOS I am catching up with health and self care, sooo, do all the allergy testing before I go on a weight loss diet seems the sensible thing to do

weight loss will help with so much and allergies are making me miserable

Welp… the restless anxiety energy is back even though my body is exhausted. I managed to get stuck into cleaning but after a while Melbcat started crying and howling until I lay down for a cuddle.

spoilerShe’s been settled and had her meds so I’m back to washing and bagging every piece of cloth in the house in case the spores got in and thinking how to make my furniture setup more easily movable for more regular vacuuming. I guess if done right this will also break the flea cycle 😟 ~~and my body~~

I’ve ordered a black UV light but am aware it may be low quality and also not every type of ringworm glows.

I have no idea what to do about the black cat. It would be easy to just stop feeding and patting him, let someone else help him so I’m not constantly undoing my decontamination.

Especially with all the home nursing care on my plate for my own cat. Especially as I can’t exactly see him regularly to apply ointment, and a medicated bath or quarantined fostering in my bathroom is out of the question. But I don’t know if anyone else is helping.

Eh. One thing at a time huh.

Also it’s been determined my own roof is fine - it’s the roof of my neighbour that’s allowing ingress and led to my ceiling cavity being flooded when it rains. Unfortunately these neighbours wouldn’t talk to me and may not speak English so it persisted for years and led to a mould problem. But the managers will deal with it now.

This may lead to works :(

[-] StudChud@aussie.zone 7 points 2 months ago

You are a kind soul, may I suggest some things?

  • stop patting the black cat. Only because it might have a disease you can't see and Melbcat is fragile at the moment.

  • notify the council and local shelters/rescue orgs of the black cat. BC will need to be captured and assessed to determine what issues they may have, and whether they can be treated/rehabbed.

  • focus on you and Melbcat. You two are most important.

[-] melbaboutown@aussie.zone 5 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago)

Thanks Spud. I really should stop patting him… 💔

spoilerI was aware of the possibility of ringworm due to tiny round patches of hair loss but took measures such as wearing long clothing then removing shoes, washing hands thoroughly like the signs say to, fully showering and changing into fresh clothing afterwards (putting the old stuff in the wash immediately).

He wants affection you see, and will brush up against your arms and legs.

I think this lesion happened because a single time I rushed out in shorts to get him dosed with a flea and worm spot on, he head bunted my knee, and I must have neglected to wash that area thoroughly in the shower afterwards. I slipped up. I forgot and walked in the house a few times with shoes on too.

I’ve been resisting turning him in because 1. the risk of euthanasia is likely high and the vet and pet shop manager I’ve spoken to agree. And 2. there’s a non-zero chance he may belong to a neighbour, maybe even an aggressive mentally ill neighbour who looks for reasons to take revenge.

I would very likely have to trap him myself to turn him in which could be a very complicated process. I can talk to someone who worked in cat rescue about my options but as an adult black cat with suspected ringworm and possible cat flu I’m scared of getting him killed.

But I may have to concentrate on Melbcat because she doesn’t seem in a good way.

[-] Seagoon_@aussie.zone 4 points 2 months ago

just do what you can and feel comfortable with, hugs

[-] CEOofmyhouse56@aussie.zone 8 points 2 months ago

I made quinoa. I think I have had it before but thought it was another type of cous cous. I cooked it in my rice cooker with a sprinkle of Vegeta. It was very good. 5/5 yum yums.

Fuck my lifeeeee I got home and realised I left my keys in the lock of my work locker (yes including my home keys) 😭😭😭 heading back to work now

[-] Gibsonhasafluffybutt@aussie.zone 4 points 2 months ago

Fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck

[-] RustyRaven@aussie.zone 7 points 2 months ago

Today's to do list:

  1. Take Miss Meow to the vet for her checkup.
  2. Maybe do a bit of gardening if the weather is ok. Or just whatever I feel like really.
[-] calhoon2005@aussie.zone 7 points 2 months ago

Powers out. Just had a chat to PowerCor who are on site. Lightning melted the transformer - might take a while eh

[-] RustyRaven@aussie.zone 7 points 2 months ago

Wow, the UPS I ordered yesterday is being delivered today. Impressive.

[-] Seagoon_@aussie.zone 4 points 2 months ago

my new accessories for the phone are coming today too

I know people hate on amazon but it's cheaper and quicker to get delivered and I can be sure to find what I need. I don't have to pay for public transport or spend hours going to shops

[-] RustyRaven@aussie.zone 4 points 2 months ago

I get almost everything delivered. I only physically go to a shop every couple of months, and that's mostly Bunnings to pick up bulky garden stuff.

I often find Amazon is not the best deal anymore though, and they won't deliver a lot of items to my new address. The UPS is from a Bunnings Marketplace seller, every big company seems to have a 'Marketplace' these days.

What's the difference between a golf ball and the g-spot?

answerMen will actually search for the golf ball.

Went for a walk and saw one of the neighbours. I smiled and waved and was ignored. Turns out they are not happy and called the council because cockies are eating our street tree and making a mess on the footpath. Our dog also likes to bark at her dog and she started yelling at him yesterday. Never done that before.

[-] SpinMeAround@aussie.zone 6 points 2 months ago

Might be going through a rough time and taking it out on other things?

[-] SituationCake@aussie.zone 6 points 2 months ago

Probably not. I’ve lived around anti-nature neighbours before, they just hate the idea of leaves and birds and wish everything was dead, because then it is ‘tidy’. The only acceptable gardens are lawn, concrete or pebbles.

Skies darkening rapidly, red radar blobs heading my way, here we go.

[-] RustyRaven@aussie.zone 4 points 2 months ago

It's already passed me and the sky is lightening again. The red blobs went a bit north of me, so I had some brief heavy rain but nothing torrential.
