Obviously Harvard bad for a variety of reasons but the Ivy Leagues have always been a pretty critical funnel for the upper class to reinforce their control of the system. Wealthy people go to Harvard, get their Poli Sci degree or whatever and then go on to work in the State department doing soft power abroad or online (same difference these days) for Amerikkka. Ending that pipeline over culture war grievances feels like it'll have some pretty significant ramifications for the ability of the Amerikkkan superstructure to reproduce itself, but that won't become obvious for another 10 years or so, and by that time Amerikkka will have already collapsed for a myriad of other reasons so maybe this entire post is pointless.

It's not even eating itself, no one benefits from this even in the short-term. There's zero benefit, there's no point.

It's more like the empire is just sawing off its own limbs because they're woke.

Mr. Hegseth, Mr. Hegseth, I have on good authority that ROTC is woke!

I heard the military itself operates off of government spending, which is COMMUNISM

We need to shut it down immediately

[-] booty@hexbear.net 16 points 2 months ago

Did you know that the government is currently doing stuff? That's fucked up. Time to permanently abolish the US government. You know, to stick it to the communists.

[-] RamenJunkie@midwest.social 4 points 2 months ago

I mean, that is pretty much the long term goal here isn't it?

[-] someone@hexbear.net 6 points 2 months ago

When I'm in a trolling mood and on some forum where chuds gather (like reddit) I'll post screeds that the last act of the standing US military (before it's disbanded for also being communistic government interference in the free market) should be to actively destroy all public highways and bridges to make room for private toll highways and bridges.

I see two potential scenarios/outcomes for this.

First is the Trump achieves his emperor for life scheme and/or the Republicans keep a long-term hold on federal power scenario. In that future, Trump and the GOP would build their own alternative institutions of credentialed elitism to supplant the Ivy+. Given what we’ve seen of Trump and MAGA, this would invariably end up as a giant grift. They’re constantly undermining their plans to build this new superstructure as that plan sees rug pulls and get rich quick schemes as a core component. So the elites coming out of these institutions run by con men would have piss poor abilities to competently run the empire.

Scenario two is, nothing changes and we keep with the constant back and forth between the Democrats and Republicans being in power. The Dems would certainly restore the military’s relationship with Harvard as maintaining the elite liberal institutions’ perch is something they actually care about, unlike universal healthcare or increasing union membership. However, because of the see-sawing between the two parties, there will be constant swapping between Harvard and whatever scam the Republicans are using. Which means the military civilian leadership will be all over the place in their organizational approach, depending on who happened to be in power when they were coming up the ranks. So lots of dysfunction and tribalism.

So either way, the American century of humiliation continues.

A Trump University would fit right into the current climate. Probably would not be invented from whole cloth, but rather an existing university would rebrand, with a sycophantic board of trustees that goes along with whatever reforms are demanded by Trump folks.

Liberty University already kinda fills this role, but not officially.

They are setting up Turning Point USA to be a kind of Censor for colleges, and k12 schools. To do a federalist society sort of grooming for those willing to betray the republic with them, but to police the other teachers and students and build dossiers on them for wrongthink and the like. Hitler Youth, amongst other things.

It's actually a direction Kirk rejected for his own vision, as he rejected the Israel aligned board p[r]icks for TP USA, for his own. But since he was publicly shot (with a bullet that wasn't a high powered hunting rifle like the 30 ought six, which would've turned his neck into hamburger with a fist sized exit wound,) his widow has since adopted the Israel aligned vision of Hitler Youth and college Censor and party police for K12 schools.

Also, military collaboration with the major research and learning institutions like Harvard has been critical for the US maintaining its technological edge

[-] Belly_Beanis@hexbear.net 26 points 2 months ago

Remember when all these Ivy League schools went after Palestinian activists to appease Trump? I think Harvard was one of the few who didn't, but it didn't stop them from continuing support to Isreal.

[-] hector@lemmy.today 17 points 2 months ago

Harvard absolutely did go after the palestinian protesters, they made a more public show of not taking it as far as the administration wanted them to go. That's all, they are still fixed against Israel protesters.

We have all the wrong people in charge, not the least at these ivy league schools, that almost exclusively staff the top positions of government and business and non profits in the US.

The Ivy League schools should be burnt to the ground.

[-] Pentacat@hexbear.net 3 points 2 months ago

Didn’t they go after protesters to appease Biden?

[-] 30_to_50_Feral_PAWGs@hexbear.net 21 points 2 months ago

Trump University rebranding as a military academy because of woke is gonna be one hell of a bit antelope-popcorn

[-] Awoo@hexbear.net 16 points 2 months ago

This will take 5-10 years to have a significant effect, might be reversed before then if Dems get back in. Assuming Dems are ever allowed back in.

[-] Rojo27@hexbear.net 15 points 2 months ago

They could be cutting them off, but then again they could just ask what they could fix to appease him and change course to get back in good graces.

[-] Hexamerous@hexbear.net 11 points 2 months ago

Finally! Reminder that "moral" is just a woke name for feelings. Bring back line formation and the gauntlet.

[-] 10TH_OF_SEPTEMBER_CALL@hexbear.net 11 points 2 months ago

i swear these idiots will prolly nuke a random city by mistake lmao

[-] hector@lemmy.today 8 points 2 months ago

The US military once accidentally dropped two loaded hydrogen bombs on North Carolina that didn't go off because of some defect or something. Who hasn't wanted to nuke north carolina at some point though it's understandable.

[-] 10TH_OF_SEPTEMBER_CALL@hexbear.net 3 points 2 months ago

nooo not north carolina

i dont care much about america as a whole but id love to see those mountains one day

[-] egg1918@hexbear.net 8 points 2 months ago

The Hexbear Code of Conduct and Terms of Service apply here.

  1. Link titles: Please use informative link titles. Overly editorialized titles, particularly if they link to opinion pieces, may get your post removed.

  2. Content warnings: Posts on the newscomm and top-level replies on the newsmega should use content warnings appropriately. Please be thoughtful about wording and triggers when describing awful things in post titles.

  3. Fake news: No fake news posts ever, including April 1st. Deliberate fake news posting is a bannable offense. If you mistakenly post fake news the mod team may ask you to delete/modify the post or we may delete it ourselves.

  4. Link sources: All posts must include a link to their source. Screenshots are fine IF you include the link in the post body. If you are citing a Twitter post as news, please include the Xcancel.com (or another Nitter instance) or at least strip out identifier information from the twitter link. 6. Low effort material: Avoid memes/jokes/shitposts in newscomm posts and top-level replies to the newsmega. This kind of content is OK in post replies and in newsmega sub-threads. We encourage the community to balance their contribution of low effort material with effort posts, links to real news/analysis, and meaningful engagement with material posted in the community.

  7. American politics: Discussion and effort posts on the (potential) material impacts of American electoral politics is welcome, but the never-ending circus of American Politics© Brought to You by Mountain Dew™ is not welcome. This refers to polling, pundit reactions, electoral horse races, rumors of who might run, etc.

  8. Electoralism: Please try to avoid struggle sessions about the value of voting/taking part in the electoral system in the West. c/electoralism is right over there.

  9. AI Slop: Don't post AI generated content. Posts about AI race/chip wars/data centers are fine.
