Republican lawmakers in Kansas are trying to ram through an anti-trans bathroom ban by including it in a bill that previously only related to whether trans people could change their gender markers on their driver’s licenses.

As the Kansas Reflector reports, Republicans on the state’s House Judiciary Committee voted earlier this week to approve an amendment to House Bill 2426 introduced by Rep. Bob Lewis (R). In its original form, H.B. 2426 would have required Kansas driver’s licenses and birth certificates to indicate a person’s sex assigned at birth, regardless of their gender identity. That version of the bill was opposed by more than 200 people who showed up to a House Judiciary Committee meeting earlier this month, even though the bill only appeared on the committee’s agenda 24 hours before.

But prior to Monday night’s hearing, the committee gave no public notice that it would be taking action on the bill or that it would consider the bathroom ban, according to the Reflector.

Every home in America already has a gender neutral bathroom.

These people are the biggest idiots.

Traditional American homes are woke. Got it.

I've been to restaurants with gender neutral bathrooms and they're great. One that stood out was basically just a hallway of stalls (with actual doors, which was nice) and a few sinks out in front.

God damn these people just can’t get over it can they? This “debate” has been going on for like, 10+ years no?

Kansas is a state that went so hard republican, their budget collapsed and they couldn't afford road maintenance. They've corrected for this by going super hard republican again, but this time against queer people. Brilliant minds over there.

Testing the waters to make sweeping changes in the future.

ALMOST always use it as a distraction for another bill they will sweep immediately, while the people/Ds are distracted by the first bill. they did this during trump where they had the tax cut right after using the net neutrality bs as a distraciton, everyone was exhausted and dint put up resistance.

Well, yeah... Trump was yapping on Twitter 24/7. The news had to report his ramblings, and the majority of people were still using that same platform. Once Elon threw a wrench into Twitter (and others followed suit), everyone finally woke up and discovered the Fediverse and later Bluesky. That's why the resistance is a lot more durable now. Elon's plan backfired.

So they want F2M trans in women bathrooms, right?

[-] chuckleslord@lemmy.world 12 points 2 months ago

Yes, they want trans people to feel like they can't use the bathroom anywhere, correct

[-] bufalo1973@piefed.social 5 points 2 months ago

F2M trans after surgery = man with a dick.

Ergo, they want men with dicks in women bathrooms.

[-] chuckleslord@lemmy.world 9 points 2 months ago

Yes, a person who looks like a man will get the cops called on them/assaulted if they attempt to enter the women's restroom. They want to force trans people into bathrooms where they don't conform so they no longer feel safe in public. It isn't some gotcha, the cruelty is the point. They want trans people to go back into the closet or to leave their state.

[-] frongt@lemmy.zip 4 points 2 months ago

No, they don't want trans people in any bathroom.

[-] bufalo1973@piefed.social 1 points 2 months ago

But a F2M trans is, in their "definition", still a woman.

Or maybe is that they want to share the bathroom with M2F trans because they think Pornhub videos are documentaries.
