holding flashlight under face

Imagine a terrifying world where we are all ruled by monsters of every stripe. And not hot ones like werewolves, but instead decaying zombies and mummies who are both insensitive to, and actively benefit from the immense suffering they cause on a daily basis. The top echelon of society, filled with profit-seeking, bloodsucking vampires. And the worst of it is that they repeat on a daily basis that what they are doing is not only just, but there is no other possible way to do it.

Pretty spooky, right? What if I told you that this world... was our own?

Happy Halloween!

Friendly reminder: when commenting about a news event, especially something that just happened, please provide a source of some kind. While ideally this would be on nitter or archived, any source is preferable to none at all given.

If you have evidence of Israeli crimes and atrocities that you wish to preserve, there is a thread here in which to do so.

Resources For Understanding The War

Defense Politics Asia's youtube channel and their map. Their youtube channel has substantially diminished in quality but the map is still useful.

Moon of Alabama, which tends to have interesting analysis. Avoid the comment section.

Understanding War and the Saker: reactionary sources that have occasional insights on the war.

Alexander Mercouris, who does daily videos on the conflict. While he is a reactionary and surrounds himself with likeminded people, his daily update videos are relatively brainworm-free and good if you don't want to follow Russian telegram channels to get news. He also co-hosts The Duran, which is more explicitly conservative, racist, sexist, transphobic, anti-communist, etc when guests are invited on, but is just about tolerable when it's just the two of them if you want a little more analysis.

On the ground: Patrick Lancaster, an independent and very good journalist reporting in the warzone on the separatists' side.

Unedited videos of Russian/Ukrainian press conferences and speeches.

https://t.me/patricklancasternewstoday ~ Patrick Lancaster's telegram channel.

https://t.me/gonzowarr ~ A big Russian commentator.

https://t.me/rybar ~ One of, if not the, biggest Russian telegram channels focussing on the war out there. Actually quite balanced, maybe even pessimistic about Russia. Produces interesting and useful maps.

https://t.me/boris_rozhin ~ Russian language.

https://t.me/mod_russia_en ~ Russian Ministry of Defense. Does daily, if rather bland updates on the number of Ukrainians killed, etc. The figures appear to be approximately accurate; if you want, reduce all numbers by 25% as a 'propaganda tax', if you don't believe them. Does not cover everything, for obvious reasons, and virtually never details Russian losses.

Hundreds gather in Ramallah’s Manarah Square to support Gaza

Imran Khan reporting from Ramallah, occupied West Bank

Emotions are running incredibly high and there is a pattern developing. Every time we see something like the Jabalia refugee camp bombing, or indeed the bombing of a hospital, people come out on the streets in the Manarah Square in Ramallah.

Just two hours ago, there were about 300 to 400 people out on the streets, chanting in support of the people of Gaza. What they do is they normally kind of walk into the square, they gather – this was during the prayer time – so they actually pray in Manarah Square and then they walk around the square and then they come back.

In the distance I can still hear people chanting … As more and more details of this Jabalia refugee camp bombing come out, we were expecting people to come out on the street despite the late hour.

People want to show their solidarity with the people of Gaza, with the Palestinians there.

Oftentimes, there are familial connections there, as well. People from the occupied West Bank have families, uncles, aunts, et cetera, within Gaza, that they can’t get a hold of, so emotions [are] running incredibly high.

NSFLJust saw a torture video of the most moral army in the world kicking naked Palestinian civilians and kicking them around and laughing about it, worst thing yet, is that how independence wars have gone historically, this not the worst it'll get to, expect another Abu Gharib to demoralize anyone wanting to fight.

Jerusalem Post - Netanyahu backed down from firing minister who called to nuke Gaza

I don't know much about Israeli internal politics but I know Netanyahu has no support so maybe too beta to get anything done? Or lame duck and can do whatever he wants and what he wants is for ministers to go nuclear? IDK.

Also lol "Benjamin Netanyahu was convinced against firing Eliyahu by National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir, who is Eliyahu's faction leader, who claimed in private conversations that firing the heritage minister is "unnecessary and disproportionate."" They think they have a right to say what is necessary and proportionate anymore!

spoiler

Heritage Minister Amichai Eliyahu from Otzma Yehudit was suspended on Sunday from government meetings after he said dropping an atom bomb on Gaza is an option in an interview to Kol Barama on Sunday morning.

The statement was made in relation to his discussing humanitarian aid to Gaza.

"We wouldn't have given the Nazis humanitarian aid," he said. "There's no such thing as innocents in Gaza."

When the interviewer asked whether Israel should just drop an atom bomb on the strip, Eliyahu replied that that was an option. Upon being reminded of the more than 240 hostages being held in Gaza, he said he would pray for their return but that "there is also a price to war."

Only two days earlier, Eliyahu had tweeted about destroying an entire city, comparing it to Sodom and Gamora.

"God taught Abraham that even though the people of Sodom were evil and sinners, the decision to obliterate them was made after they heard the screams of a girl being raped and didn't act mercifully," he wrote. "There is patience for evil that at some point needs to stop." Comment is universally condemned within Israel

Eliyahu's comment was heavily criticized throughout the government. Advertisement

"Minister Amichai Eliyahu's comments are disconnected from reality," said Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. "Israel and the IDF function according to the highest standards of international law in order to prevent harming innocents, and we will continue to do so until victory."

Netanyahu later announced that Eliyahu would be suspended from all government meetings until further notice but did not respond to a request for comment on whether he would consider firing Eliyahu.

Later on Sunday, an N12 report claimed Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was convinced against firing Eliyahu by National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir, who is Eliyahu's faction leader, who claimed in private conversations that firing the heritage minister is "unnecessary and disproportionate."

Despite his supposed suspension, Eliyahu was still able to take part in a vote put out to the ministers by phone as the meeting was cancelled.

Defense Minister Yoav Gallant condemned Eliyahu's "baseless comments" and added that "It's good that he isn't the person in charge of Israel's security."

"Minister Eliyahu's unthinking, unnecessary, and irresponsible comment harms Israel's values, causes heavy damage to diplomacy, and worst of all, adds to the pain of the hostages' families," said National Unity leader Minister Benny Gantz.

Opposition leader Yair Lapid said it was a shocking and crazy comment from an irresponsible minister.

"He caused harm to the families of the hostages, Israeli society, and our international standing," he said. "The presence of extremists in the government endangers us and our success in the war's objectives - victory over Hamas and the return of the hostages."

He also called for Netanyahu to fire Eliyahu.

Labor leader Merav Michaeli said the heritage minister had to be distanced from politics, saying he was "a danger to the State of Israel."

"Dehumanisation and collective punishment is the way to genocide and war crimes," said Ra'am leader Mansour Abbas. "Gentlemen, there will be the day after the war. This isn't the end of history and not the end of days. I am sure and believe from the bottom of my heart that there will be peace between the two people."

Condemnations and calls to fire Eliyahu also came from outside the government including from the Brothers in Arms protest group.

"If Netanyahu and Gantz want to preserve the relative national consensus that exists these days and our relations with the rest of the world, they must fire Minister Amichai Eliyahu now," said the group.

Eliyahu later clarified that it should be clear to sensible people that the comment about an atom bomb was only metaphorical.

"But we still definitely need a powerful and unproportional response to terrorism that will make it clear to the Nazis and their supporters that terrorism is not worthwhile," he said. "This is the only formula that democratic states can use to deal with terrorism. At the same time, it is clear that the State of Israel is committed to doing everything possible to return the hostages safe and sound."

Ben-Gvir, who leads Otzma Yehudit, said that he also believed the comment to be a metaphor. He did, however, ban his party members from giving interviews and posting on social media as a result of Eliyahu's comment.

The comment was also condemned from abroad including by Saudi Arabia with whom Israel is trying to get a peace agreement.

"The minister's comments show the penetration of extremism and brutality among members of the Israeli government," said a statement from the Saudi Foreign Ministry.

"Such statements represent a severe and unacceptable violation of international law and international humanitarian law," said Jordan's Foreign Ministry spokesperson. "It's a dangerous escalation that requires the international community to act immediately to confront it and confront hate speech with effective steps that will force Israel to stop its continuous attacks against the Palestinian people in Gaza and the West Bank and stop its violations of international law and international humanitarian law."

The Israeli military has encircled Gaza City, IDF spokesman says

The Israeli military has completed its encirclement of Gaza City, Israel Defense Forces spokesperson Rear Adm. Daniel Hagari said Thursday.

The Israeli engineering corps is now working to locate and neutralize underground infrastructure, explosives and other threats to allow the IDF to move freely in the area, Hagari said.

Earlier Thursday, Israel Defense Forces chief of staff Lt. Gen. Herzi Halevi said the Israeli military is surrounding Gaza City and "deepening" its operations there.

“Our forces are in very significant areas of Gaza City,” Halevi said.

Followup to towelgate

Two men have been fined after a display honouring Israeli hostages taken by Hamas was allegedly damaged in Sydney's east.

The pair allegedly tore down towels, pairs of thongs and photos representing the 240 hostages along the promenade at Bondi Beach yesterday.

Police say the two men, aged 25 and 40, have each been fined $500 for offensive behaviour.

This fucking dumbass has just said he won't invade in full force and expects Israel to keep its forces deployed to fight Hezbollah?

The ambiguity is the whole reason they were forced to deploy there.

Forwarded from Samidoun Network

::: spoiler The ban on Samidoun by German officials is active participation in the ongoing genocide on Gaza. The purpose of such a ban is to repress dissent with the full force of the state. It comes hand in hand with bans on demonstrations, police assaulting people on the streets for wearing a kuffiyeh or carrying a Palestinian flag, the ban on saying "Freom the river to the sea, Palestine will be free," the imposition of political bans, the efforts to deport activists or strip them of residency.

All of this is full-on complicity and particiption in genocide. As we speak to you today, Israeli occupation forces just carried out a new massacre in al-Bureij refugee camp in central Gaza, bombing 30 homes in a heavily populated camp. The German state and the Ministry of the Interior are choosing to support these attacks by waging a campaign of terror and repression against those who dare to speak out against these ongoing crimes, who want to mobilize people to put an end to destruction, war, occupation and colonialism.

The German state and all imperialist powers, following the lead of U.S. President Biden, are partners not only in the defamation and dehumanization of the Palestinian people but the murderous war crimes and crimes against humanity of the occupation regime. Complicity in genocide is illegal under international law, as is the persecution of organizations because they oppose apartheid, and we are committed to hold Germany accountable for its crimes against not only Samidoun, but the Palestinian people as a whole.

This attack should be of serious concern to all who carry out political work, especially for Palestinian liberation. It is meant to introduce a norm in which organizations may be banned for organizing demonstrations, lectures, publishing posters and engaging in entirely public and political work that challenges the German state and its complicity in Israeli war crimes, crimes against humanity, and ongoing genocide in Gaza. It comes at a time when more people than ever are speaking out for justice and liberation in Palestine and is meant as an attack on the movement as a whole.

If it is possible to ban Samidoun, then it is possible to ban every political organization and group in Germany that challenges the politics of the German state and its imperialist role. This action comes hand in hand with the United States' ongoing resupply of bombs to target the Palestinian people in Gaza. It is meant to bolster the Israeli war effort by depriving the Palestinian people of popular support on the streets.

This is also a racist assault on the Palestinian and Arab community. Samidoun in Germany is led by Palestinian refugee youth, and the German media has engaged in a blatantly racist smear campaign intended to incite the most racist and fascist forces in the country against the Palestinian community, which is the largest in Europe. The police in Berlin have engaged in an ongoing, targeted and offensive assault against Arab neighbourhoods and communities. Samidoun activists have faced severe repression, such as Zaid Abdulnasser being threatened with stripping his residency and Musaab Abu Atta being subjected to a political ban. Other activists have been threatened with deportation for merely attending protests and events. This ban is meant to keep the communities silenced by terror and fear, to repress the voice of youth, and to empower the most racist and fascist forces against the Palestinian people both in Germany and in Palestine.

The attack on Samidoun is part and parcel of the attack on the Palestinian people as a whole. It reflects the German state's imperialist interests. Far from expressing a sense of guilt or responsibility for Nazi crimes and genocide, this action evidences the German state's aggressive dedication to and promotion of racism, repression and war crimes. We must be clear: Germany has no legitimacy or authority to speak on human rights, freedoms or democracy. It is dedicated to stripping all of those things from anyone who speaks out against genocide and colonialism in Palestine.

Samidoun has also been particularly targeted because we advocate for the Palestinian prisoners, on the front lines of struggle, confronting repression, and express our solidarity with and the legitimacy of the Palestinian resistance. While Germany suppresses the Palestinian community and bans Samidoun, its official outposts abroad have frequently sought to influence and direct Palestinian politics through conditional funding and similar colonial enterprises. Through this ban, the German state wishes not only to support genocide but to criminalize even verbal resistance to that genocide. The Palestinian people, like all colonized and oppressed peoples, have the right to resist to liberate themselves and their land from colonialism and occupation, from the river to the sea. Those who resist occupation and oppression -- the Palestinian resistance -- are not only heroes of the Palestinian people, they are defenders of all of humanity.

At this moment, we urge all activists and supporters of Palestine, and all who care for freedom and justice, to speak out against the genocide in Gaza, to speak out against the ban on Samidoun and to affirm loudly and clearly that Palestine will be free from the river to the sea, and that Palestinians have the right to resist occupation and oppression. Through this action, through repeated demands of police on protest organizers, the German state wants to suppress these truths and this reality. They want to secure our silence and even our complicity, and we will not allow them to do so.

We reiterate our words upon German Chancellor Olaf Scholz' announcement of the demand to ban Samidoun: In Arabic, the word “Samidoun,” means those who are steadfast. We use this name to refer to the Palestinian prisoners, who remain behind bars, struggling for freedom. Today we affirm that we shall remain steadfast and committed to the Palestinian people, until victory, return and liberation.

This is chilling: "What is unclear now is what could happen to civilians." And "Now it would seem that those in Gaza City could be stuck there."

Israeli tanks move steadily towards Gaza City

There have been only brief comments from the Israeli military, saying it's expanding ground operations.

But what we're hearing from inside Gaza is that tanks and armoured vehicles are moving steadily towards Gaza City - where the IDF says Hamas has a network of tunnels used as a command and control centre.

We understand from colleagues that Israeli forces have penetrated the northern neighbourhoods of Gaza City - and that there are armoured vehicles on both of the main north-to-south roads.

One goes along the coast from the north of Gaza City, and the other runs through the middle of the Strip to the south of the city.

What is unclear now is what could happen to civilians. We know that there are hundreds of thousands of people who have not heeded the Israeli military's call to move from the northern half of the Gaza Strip south.

Now it would seem that those in Gaza City could be stuck there.

Jordan airdrops medical aid to Gaza

King Abdullah II has said that his country’s air force has air dropped medical aid to a field hospital run by Jordan in Gaza.

King Abdullah said it was a “duty” to help, and said “we will always be there for our Palestinian brethren”.

It’s unclear whether Israel or other parties had knowledge of the air drop.

I don't really understand this. how could they air drop something in Gaza without Israel knowing about it? seems like a stunt to try to pacify their citizens - "hey look, we're doing something!"
