I must share that Emmanuel Todd, who foresaw the dissolution of the USSR in the 70's has predicted the 'defeat of the west' and the dissolution of NATO after losing the war in Ukraine.

So some "hope".

Democrats are the party of managed decline. Trump is the party of stripping the copper wire out of the walls for a quick buck

less of a collapse and more of a shedding of the democratic facade methinks, sorta like the roman republic becoming the roman empire and then lasting for another 500 years maybe idk

That's certainly what a faction of powerful conservatives are thinking. As much as historians are correct that USA is not Rome, its political class has always wanted it to be like Rome.

The suddenness of the USSR's political and economic collapse was atypical. I wouldn't expect the same sudden decline of the USA, especially considering it's occluded nature as an Economic Empire. The fall in power and living standards will probably be just as severe as the USSR, but it will not be as obvious while it's happening.

Depends on what you mean. As funny as it would be, the balkanization of the US isn't very likely. The US losing its ability to project power abroad is more possible, although even that doesn't seem guaranteed yet. There are a lot of puppets left to cannibalize still - there are many countries who treat the US the same way the US treats Israel, so to speak.

The political and organizational de-federalization of the U.S. is already well underway and we are really just starting to see the preliminary military conflicts with things like Trump actively threatening Chicago.

If this leads to actual Balkanization has more to do with if the regions have strong identification with each other and themselves more than the federal government, which given how destabilized people's identities are due to the internet is unlikely to manifest in that way. On the other hand, intense regionalization may occur as a reaction to internet generalization. For example, I have seen more people joke about Wisconsin retaking the Upper Peninsula of Michigan than ever before in the last couple of years, and quite often todays jokes are tomorrows policies.
