But also:

Models
Passenger attendants
Mathematicians

Was this list compiled by an AI?

"Mathematicians" really makes me balk. On a surface level, you've made a programme that gets basic calculation wrong, you expect that to replace the grad department?

And at a deeper level, it's still just a Turing machine! You can fill a dozen warehouses with servers all training new neural networks, but you're still not gonna overcome the halting problem. Throw as much complexity and as much compute as you like into that pit, you're still Gödel's bitch!

Political scientists

Business teachers, postsecondary

Why would we need AI to replace these? I can already replicate their work with a crystal ball and a good set of dice.

Historians

Factual information recall, something LLMs are famously good at

CNC Operators

Trusting Fusion's AI right now is the fastest way to break a machine. Machinists aren't going anywhere for a while.

Great. Can't wait for history to be decided on how much ketamine a billionaire consumes in a week.

Technical Writers

Hard to overstate how important tech writers are for the reproduction of technological knowledge, and how ill-suited AI is for this job. I can absolutely see the VPs of companies shuttering their tech writing department and just shifting that responsibility over to engineers and LLMs... which will just make all sophisticated technological processes even more difficult to teach and reproduce.

I did this for almost a decade, quit during the height of COVID because I was sick of working at computer....I now look like a genius who anticipated the collapse but actually it was just making me depressed. but yeah you need humans to do that work correctly and I can definitely see middle manager types ignoring that to please bean counters, I'm sure those jobs are now getting shredded.

on a related note I recently learned the tech writing program I graduated from a decade ago no longer exists as of this semester :/

They think model = insta influencer and not like, someone who professionally wears and models clothes and represents a brand

Historians

I've used AI often enough to know that it can't do my job worth a goddamn

[-] [email protected] 10 points 1 month ago

ahahahahahahahahahahahahaha lmfao AI is so inept we're failing like 60% of freshman history classes trying to use it

I have worked in hospitality for 10 years, more even. The entire time there has been a robot that 'washes dishes' in the kitchen with me. (almost) The entire time there has either been a teenager or a migrant who is charged with operating the robot.

As techology advances under capitalism, it does not free as from labour, it simply increases the standards we must work to.

As a side note, I do not care for the the revolt of the petit bourgeois 'artists', 'writers', and etc. Nothing is stopping you from making art, go out and create things for the sake of creating things. Don't whine to me about how you outght to be paid for work while I work along side people who feed 100s of people a day.

This is the same bullshit that I've seen oh woe, people couldnt be rockstars in the soviets. Yeh and I dont get to live as a musician here and now either.

This discussion about AI has been such a massive derailing distraction. I'm so tired.

/rant sorry this has been on my mind a lot lately.

Dishwashers are allegedly going to be replaced by AI. I would accuse AI of writing this but only an actual person could be stupid enough to believe this.

[-] [email protected] 9 points 1 month ago

Nah, the second list is for jobs least likely to be replaced by AI.

[-] [email protected] 3 points 1 month ago

Oh oops, guess it's me who's stupid!

[-] [email protected] 3 points 1 month ago

Hey now, two things can be true at the same time

[-] [email protected] 8 points 1 month ago

This is hilariously bad

[-] [email protected] 7 points 1 month ago

So I think we all got job security then.

[-] [email protected] 6 points 1 month ago

Guaranteed that these people think "historian" just means a guy who can tell you what year some battle happened in.

Funny how people here and on twitter are angry at the list and are arguing with dude who posted it. Now, if you would read at least tome 1 of Das Kapital you will realize that this is eerily reminiscent of situation where skilled artisanal wavers were replaced by machines. Even arguments you are making why this wouldn’t happen are exactly the same. Isn’t it funny how we can re-live the situation again i XXI century? Funny that all this is already described in some old fat book by this bearded dude named Karl.
