Helen of Troy? Oh, don’t even get me started on her! She didn’t just cause the Trojan Warβ€”that was her warm-up gig!

The Crusades? Helen. Napoleonic Wars? Helen again. Both World Wars, the Cold War, Star Wars, Cola Warsβ€”every single one is her fault!

Honestly, if she’d just stopped wishing for wars, we’d all be riding unicorns and eating ice cream for breakfast by now.

    Thanks a lot, Helen.

  • Unironically, i read an interpretation that said that that's actually in the bible.

In the world's beginning, people lived in perfect harmony but then Eve ate the forbidden fruit and that made her fertile and they had to leave the garden because they were overpopulated. But the fruit was so sweet because it promised the seed of greatness, of imperial might and of progress. So that's what the humanity set out to achieve through its journey.

I believe that to some extent this literally explains the chaos in the world right now. Bored spoiled people wanting excitement and to feel something.

  • Pretty much this. There are people with certain interests that benefit from current events. It is simply that acquiring those benefits do not require them to meet any of the consequences due to how we have structured our society. The way it is now, there exist layer upon layer of various degrees of separation between the person making the decision and the actual consequences from that decision.

Sounds like she could use a holiday in Cambodia.

I realize now I've seen these people in the wild. When men are recorded in a video doing innocent or "girly" things, someone in the comments inevitably says "men used to go to war", like a kind of celebration of that fact, like they are specifically sad or disappointed that men get to actually enjoy life instead of suffering and committing atrocities on a battlefield.

She reminds me of an ex and many people like her. They'd say "how can you be happy if ypu don't know sadness." Fuck that idea and everything that comes with it.

  • If there's a person who seeks pain in their life, it might be best to just give it to them; otherwise they tear up the world for others as well.

I would make a much more specific wish - decrease everyone's greed level by 50%. I think changing human nature by that much would be enough for altruism and cooperation to overbalance selfishness and fear.
