Needs to be said that Kafka's "Metamorphosis" is not about being scared of becoming a bug, it's about being so socially isolated and invisible in the modern world because you're just a cog in a machine that you feel as if you're nothing better than a bug. And once you can't contribute anymore, once you can't labour even your family will discard of you like the bug you are.

before i had played the game, someone spoiled me on the thing at the end. So when i was playing through it i started developing a theory that the Bug and the Detective had somehow managed to switch minds and you were playing as the bug and that's why you couldn't remember jackshit, cause the entire time you were a fucking arthropod. Of course that's not what happened but its still pretty funny to think about
