For what it's worth, I genuinely do find local politics a more viable field at the moment than national politics in regards to the US.

[-] [email protected] 19 points 4 weeks ago

There's a definitely a lesson here to run more socialists locally.

[-] [email protected] 5 points 4 weeks ago

For now. When you first build your local bastions, you can later start playing a national role. All large, national movements which we know from history are build on the local organising of unknown and unsung comrades.

[-] [email protected] 2 points 4 weeks ago

You need both. Federal and State government can undermine municipal governments, while some things like labor laws are only defined in the state and federal level.

There's also a capillarity issue, socialist parties are usually small, so they can't organize effectively in every municipality, so they need to focus on a few key regions where their bases are strong.

Fwiw and without cynicism, I think this is a great opportunity for the left. Big stage, awareness, grass root support/organizing... Go Zo.

Looks straight out of Def Jam: Fight For NY

[-] [email protected] 15 points 4 weeks ago

I want a new def jam game so bad

[-] [email protected] 11 points 4 weeks ago

Wasn't the last Def Jam game like, bad? They've made more then one I think.

[-] [email protected] 7 points 4 weeks ago

I only remember the first one, which I believe was Vendetta. I know they made a sequel, Fight for NY. I assume its the same game just "more", and they ported it to PSP as well. I have no idea if there's more beyond that, but I still want a new one

[-] [email protected] 18 points 4 weeks ago

You weren't kidding...

[-] [email protected] 39 points 4 weeks ago

Armchair doomers & revolutionary bookclub organizers solidarity LibsOfTikTok, Bill Clinton, Laura Loomer, any random Israeli, etc.

[-] [email protected] 13 points 4 weeks ago

This is what Democrats say every time they nominate anyone.

[-] [email protected] 29 points 4 weeks ago

Man I am as cynical as the next 40 year old anarchist, but the amount of people shitting on Zohran because he didn't literally say "Death to Israel, Death to America, unlimited genocide on the first world" when being hounded by liberal journalists for a damning soundbite has been so fucking tiring.

I just start asking these people "Do you actually live in Palestine? Or are you just an edgy baby ML speaking over actual Palestinians?"

And sure him winning the mayoral race won't fundamentally change anything on that front materially, but it's a pretty good indication of a major sea change in US politics and a rare opportunity to push people further left. I think much like the liberals think somehow electoralism alone will magically improve things, a lot of western communists are content waiting for someone else to start a vanguard for them while they smugly play armchair revolutionary from the sidelines.

I am not saying their analysis is necessarily wrong when they point out that he's still no Lenin but like look where we are. Nobody in places like this are under any illusion that he is actually a revolutionary, it's just nice to see someone with at least a baseline of correct politics to get a victory in this fascist shithole.

Listen, seeing this guy say he's going to arrest Netanyahu if he enters New York City and then win the primary for Mayor, is fucking wild. You have to take the wins where you can get them. Besides, I need something good to happen every once in a while. The other thing people who complain about his positions seem to miss is that A) they're more left than any other mayoral candidate I've ever seen, and B) When/If he gets totally FUCKED by the Democrats come election time, It'll only confirm what people even farther left have been saying, and give them opportunities to pull people more left with them.

This is a strategic boon as far as I see it, win or loose.

[-] [email protected] 10 points 4 weeks ago

The USAmerican population needs some small wins like this in order to break the spell we’re collectively under. The one that says mildly leftist policies are mythical pipe dreams. Some small victories have a chance to snowball as it’s proven that the government can actually provide for its people, if it chooses to.

YEP

  1. He supports a one-state solution in Israel (not that a mayor should have a to answer this question, but here we are)
  2. He will arrest Netanyahu if he enters New York
  3. He talks about splitting emergency services into multiple disciplines to handle things like mental health crisis. This is straight from the Defund Police platform.

On these issues, he's to the left of 99% of politicians in the US.

Even if the ONLY thing he accomplishes as mayor is free transportation in New York, that's infinitely better than an Adams or Cuomo term. I have a feeling he'll accomplish a hell of a lot more if people actually organize around him. We have a unique opportunity to support a socialist in the largest, most expensive US city. Don't let perfection get in the way of progress.

Please Daddy Mamdani, lower rent and force the porks to hire so I can move to NYC and limit my instances of being whacked by the imperial boomerang.

Nyc has always been cool

Definitely the best city in America by a country mile, which isn’t saying much because this country has some dogshit ‘cities’ but still

[-] [email protected] 20 points 4 weeks ago

I've never been to NY but I did go to Seattle last year and that place is pretty fuckin rad. I went and took a picture with the big Lenin statue

[-] [email protected] 12 points 4 weeks ago

shit i didn't realize that was a life sized statue

[-] [email protected] 12 points 4 weeks ago

With the possible exception of the Weather, which I've heard described as "Brisbane, but it snows too"

[-] [email protected] 16 points 4 weeks ago

Not even amerikkkan just want a mayor who advocates for free transit and city run grocery stores

[-] [email protected] 16 points 4 weeks ago

They don’t even make those metro cards any more smdh my dick head, fake NYC fans

[-] [email protected] 9 points 4 weeks ago

They don't? Did that change like last year?

[-] [email protected] 9 points 4 weeks ago

I just fact checked myself and you can still get them through the end of this year, but they’re being phased out now pinocchio-evil

[-] [email protected] 7 points 4 weeks ago

Ah that's fucking lame

[-] [email protected] 14 points 4 weeks ago

If this guy doesn't become an Eric Adams or Fetterman style disappointment I will eat my hat.

Electoralism is a fuck

[-] [email protected] 4 points 4 weeks ago

Current mayor of NYC. Was billed as a vegan progressive but is really a corrupt cop who just skated on crazy corruption charges

[-] [email protected] 12 points 4 weeks ago

I don't understand this meme at all

[-] [email protected] 16 points 4 weeks ago

A certain kind of leftist (mostly "progressive" liberals) are slobbering over this guy the same way they did with AOC, Bernie, Fetterman etc.

Also great username. I once had a chinchilla named Ghostface Chinchilla

[-] [email protected] 20 points 4 weeks ago

Thank you!

I can understand the appeal with this guy though. He's definitely posted some much futher left stuff in the past than AOC ever has, and the sense of mobilizing voters towards almost socialism is a good thing to be happy about.

[-] [email protected] 4 points 4 weeks ago

It's better than the alternative but I'm so tired of lesser evilism. If they want me to be engaged they can stop punching left and actually listen to what we want. Every year that we aren't getting what we need, it just heightens the needs and makes our position look more and more radical, so they can write us off.

[-] [email protected] 6 points 4 weeks ago

This is an image from today of NYC now that the Radical Left has won

CW suggestive content, gang activity, debauchery
