Just been informed an old coworker has passed away. He always made me laugh. The world has lost a good man.

[-] [email protected] 6 points 14 hours ago

I'm so sorry.

Rebound class (mini trampolines!) was SO fun. Already can't wait to do it again!

[-] [email protected] 6 points 15 hours ago

Trampolines! That sounds super fun.

You have been charged with 3 counts of supplying out of date pepperoni to your family. How do you plead?

Not guilty, Your Honor ๐Ÿ˜ฌ

[-] [email protected] 12 points 17 hours ago

Cheesus! Pepperoni is preserved, goddamit. If no one dies or gets sick, the preservation worked.

[-] [email protected] 4 points 16 hours ago

Well yes, and even fuzziness is ok on some varieties. White fuzz, not green or blue!

[-] [email protected] 4 points 14 hours ago

Itโ€™s still good, itโ€™s still goodโ€ฆ.

[-] [email protected] 7 points 16 hours ago

Not mushrooms, not guilty

This kitten must eat from everyone else's plate then take over lol

[-] [email protected] 4 points 17 hours ago

I love these little fluffy guys. ๐Ÿ’–

[-] [email protected] 9 points 18 hours ago

Still sick as fuck. Taking small joys in Selkirk the cat and kids apparently staging protest marches in Roblox (which I have never played, but whatever)

[-] [email protected] 6 points 17 hours ago

rest as much as you can

[-] [email protected] 5 points 17 hours ago

Thankyou for the tea, I've not really eaten since Friday

[-] [email protected] 2 points 9 hours ago

Been there. Can you make some clear broth from cube and have it with a few crackers?

Half strength ensure made with hot water and a splash of milk for cooling is a good warm drink to slowly sip.

[-] [email protected] 4 points 14 hours ago

saladas with a thin smear of vegemite, and weak black tea is very good at settling a grumbly tummy.

[-] [email protected] 1 points 3 hours ago

Thanks everyone, I CAN eat just have utterly zero interest in doing so. Calories from honey in my lemon ginger tea

[-] [email protected] 3 points 14 hours ago

Not good, maybe something simple like some soup might help, at least try and keep your fluids up.

Welp, it must be some kind of divine intervention or something but my presentation has been postponed at the last minute to some day next week. I'm still going to work towards finishing up to present to my supervisor tomorrow arvo, I NEED URGENT DEADLINES OR MY BRAIN WON'T WORK.

[-] [email protected] 5 points 18 hours ago

I too love deadlines and it's a problem.

So I try to set rules of must do . Check lists help a lot. It's like a rule.

[-] [email protected] 3 points 18 hours ago

My problem is that the check lists are out of control (the more I do the more I realise I need to do and my priorities start getting confused). I have managed to stick to some relatively hard constraints for this presentation so I'm going to make sure the slides and all the diagrams are done that way I am free to move back onto the thesis. Rather than juggling everything at once...

[-] [email protected] 3 points 17 hours ago

Does the presentation have a word limit or talking component limit?

I generally stick to the criteria that they ask for careful not to give too much information if it isnโ€™t called for.

[-] [email protected] 2 points 17 hours ago

It's about a 15-20 minute presentation with a relatively vague marking rubric. It ascribes equal components to each aspect of the thesis that I will be presenting on, which is a bit dumb since obviously the intro and discussion will require a lot more time than the aims and probably the results.

The presentation itself is going to be picture heavy but a lot of the time is currently being spent creating the diagrams/maps (I will still need these for the thesis as well so it's not time wasted at least). I have not even finished the slides let alone started coming up with a draft script to time myself. At first I was worried that I would not even get up to 15 minutes but I think I will be able to have minimal text on the slides and expand/summarise as much as is needed depending on how I'm going for time.

Trying a new gym class tonight and Iโ€™m actually very nervous. My fitness has slipped so much, am looking for something to inspire me!

[-] [email protected] 7 points 20 hours ago

Go get 'em tiger ๐Ÿ’ช

[-] [email protected] 18 points 22 hours ago

Big thanks to everyone yesterday for the kind advice and support for the ol' girl.

Sometimes it's difficult to speak about health concerns to others and be listened to, but not here which I'm very grateful for.

[-] [email protected] 8 points 20 hours ago

my uniseals for patching the tank interlinks came on Monday but I threw my back out on Sunday so I couldn't get into the tanks yesterday and while better today, it's too cold for me to be dipping my arthritic paws into tanks full of fucking ice water. Why is life so unkind.

[-] [email protected] 1 points 13 hours ago

Take care of yourself and I hope your backโ€™s feeling better soon

[-] [email protected] 2 points 13 hours ago

It's a cranky shitbeast held together by bailing wires and spite, but i broke it once so i'm still ahead of the game

[-] [email protected] 16 points 23 hours ago* (last edited 23 hours ago)

I know I should get over it, but do you think it's 'ok' to be miffed about donating something to someone and not even getting a thank you in return?

It's been a month. I am mostly over it, but from time to time it comes to mind and it bugs me as someone who lives in a world thinking they've never mattered.

[-] [email protected] 2 points 13 hours ago

Iโ€™d definitely be pissed off. How hard is it to say thank you?!

[-] [email protected] 9 points 22 hours ago

Yes absolutely. It's basic manners.

[-] [email protected] 10 points 23 hours ago

If thanks isn't the first word that comes out of your mouth when given something, then there's something wrong with you.

Yeah, I'd be pissed off.

[-] [email protected] 8 points 23 hours ago

If it's a person I donated something to I'd be pretty annoyed but I've been more and more noticing how people lack the common courtesy to use just a little bit of manners, which goes a long way.

[-] [email protected] 8 points 23 hours ago

Send them a note asking if they like it.

[-] [email protected] 8 points 23 hours ago

I think that's a normal reaction to not receiving thanks - it's a simple way of showing gratitude.

[-] [email protected] 11 points 23 hours ago

eCommerce launch today at work, quite exciting. This is the whole reason I took this role and it should be a game changer for me going forward

Beach, I will be sure to wear a hat and a windproof jacket ๐ŸŒž๐Ÿ’จ๐ŸŒŠ

So many pelicans today, must have been at least fifty. When the wind started gusting and a little rain started they hunkered down tucking their chin onto their breast.

I hate assignments. I have four due next week and am only done with research for one of them. And it's going to take me ages to research and write each one, so I can't hold myself to do each assignment in two days. Fuck me.

[-] [email protected] 9 points 23 hours ago

Yesterday YL needed permission to go on an excursion. Yeah yeah sure. Then she says "oh dad. You'll love this. We're going to see &$#@%?". I had no idea what she even said but he got really excited (he doesn't get excited about much) and then there was a lot of nerd talk and I felt left out.

So this morning I went back to the permission slip and it said "Particle accelerator". I googled and I still have no fucking clue as to what that is but I learnt that we have the only one in Australia here in Melbourne.

I guess that's a fun fact for those who know what that is.

[-] [email protected] 2 points 13 hours ago

Jealous! I would love to see that

[-] [email protected] 9 points 23 hours ago

The one down at Monash? Oooh jelly! It's quite fascinating. Basically a big tunnel circle underground, with machines that can squirt atoms/molecules etc. at very high speeds at items in each target zone. Like a very big roundabout with high speed atom cannons instead of roads leading off it. This helps people find out what the items in the target zone are made of and their internal structure. Super useful for mining, engineering, medical stuff and a host of other stuff.

Gaaaaaah! Partner will not use her phone as an alarm, but does not wake up in time, meaning I have to consistently wake her up else she'll be late for work. Also, meaning it's up to me to get the kids going for school and make lunches so they are not late..... Not every day but at least a few times a week....GAAAAAAH! Infuriating.

[-] [email protected] 7 points 1 day ago

Physical alarm clock? Smart watch that has an alarm?

You shouldn't be responsible for waking her up and doing parenting duties on her behalf. My mum always made school lunches the night before, which was always a lot easier than making them the morning of.
