I really wouldn't have guessed that Tankies would have "Hawaii" in their list of trigger-words like this. Half the comments in this thread are "but imperialism!" when the subject is actually housing prices and has nothing to do with it. If Hawaii was a sovereign state they'd probably be having similar problems with displaced renters from a situation like this.

Probably hasn’t occurred to them how many elderly kapuna rely on US social security benefits to pay rent after paying into the system for decades, etc. The whole “US needs to leave Hawaii” thing is pretty poorly thought out.
