honestly this is cooler
Came in to say this - a radius and ulna tattoo would goofy as shit.
The 'bones' tattooed look weird in an alien kinda way, but cool af.
They look like snake bones to me.
Let's be clear, it's intentional and pretty rad; can you imagine how silly you'd look with just a regular ol' arm bone, like some kind of permanent 1930s cartoon skeleton lol
Tbf a normal arm bone wouldnt work with this effect very well, you need the bones to be wrapping around the outside and blocking the view of the bones on the other side. You can't really make the 3d effect work a for a single/pair of bones in the centre of your arm and have it be visible on all angles of your arm.
yep, this looks really cool
I don't really care, that tattoo is still sick as fuck.
🎶 The backbone’s connected to the… wrist-pelvis 🎶
Wrelvis
Scaphis? Pelvoid?
I mean, its still pretty badass and nicely done
Would be cooler to go full H.R. Giger with it imo, but to be fair it's not my arm, yet.
The first time they were xrayed, the operator must have freaked out. (Or went "wohoo publishing material!")
Jokes on you, their arm can actually bend like a spine!
Maybe our friend here is really into snakes and wanted it done as though the arm is a snake with a human hand on the end? Still not a way I would have gone, in part because now, yeah, your arm is a meme, and also that's a lot of mental hoops for people to jump through, assuming you meant it at all, but it seems like decent enough work, so I choose to believe there is intentionality here.
His shoulder could be a snake skull. That would fit.
Edit: scsi posted the full arm pic. Looks pretty cool imo
Yeah, still not to my taste, but clearly an insane amount of skill on display, and evoking snakes seems like it was very much on the table.
With a human hand tail
Kinda looks like he's holding a 3 lb family pack of hamburger.
Thats a Harrowhawk reference.
OK, help me out here. I googled that name and found a wiki page filled with a stunning amount of edginess. I mean, the sentence "Born of her parent's genocidal plot, she is a powerful bone adept" jumped at me straight away and I found myself unable to look away, much like when witnessing a car crash, or maybe more of a mass murder. I skimmed a bit of the article wondering what even is that from.
I felt like either some terrible fan fiction or some monstrously large and obtuse manga, though the style of the illustrations didn't really support either. Eventually I found out it's a series of science fantasy novels and when I saw the title of the first book - Gideon the Ninth - I suddenly remembered.
About a year ago I was in a pub talking about sci-fi and some girl recommended this to me, saying it's an "amazing lesbian sci-fi" (I remembered the recommendation as "Gideon 9", filtered as it was through our language, and assumed it was the name of either planet of a spaceship, so it took me a while to make the connection). As soon as I heard that my face lit up because despite being a straight guy, I could immediately counter with an amazing lesbian sci-fi of my own - A Memory Called Empire (highly recommended, such a great book).
Anyway, I do plan to read Gideon the Ninth at some point, I trust the recommendation, but what I saw just now on the wiki makes me curious. Is it intentionally over the top, like some of the better Warhammer 40k books are? Or is it played completely straight? Is it good because of its edginess? In spite of it? Or am I just just misinterpreting things... somehow?
I'm definitely much more interested in the books now, though with more than a hint of morbid curiosity...
Edit: Hmmm. Clicked a random link on the wiki one last time before closing it and found out there's a character called "Awake Remembrance of These Valiant Dead Kia Hua Ko Te Pai Snap Back to Reality Oops There Goes Gravity", so I guess the books don't take themselves too seriously, which is a big relief.
Also found out that A Memory Called Empire and Gideon the Ninth are both debut novels starting a popular lesbian science fiction series published in 2019. That was a good year apparently. What else happened back then? Oh. Wait. I remember now.
It's incredibly edgy, but its edginess is deeply rooted in catholicism and cascading traumas.
Everyone in the setting is fucked up and edgy and takes it to the maximum, in part because its maximalist fiction and partly because the points being made wouldn't work otherwise. It's gay drama in a gilded ossuary.
And for context as to the tone: the Oxford professor who wrote it compared it to the KFC double down. It drips with gratuitousness and then slips an old meme in to break tension.
The series is so heavily acclaimed in part because it has no right being this good. Its too edgy, it plays with fanfic styles and tropes, it casually drops vocabulary most adults won't recognize, some of its most significant themes are references to obscure bits of Catholic theology. And when it all comes together, its a deeply human story about a bunch of people who've been made very unwell by a severely diseased society.
Ah, so it gives you that pleasant guilty pleasure feeling without the guilt since it's genuinely good underneath and not just some janky slop you happen to have a soft spot for. Sounds good.
I'll give it a go once my commutes are no longer occupied by my Twin Peaks rewatch. Thanks!
Exactly. I don't want to oversell or anything but its similar to Shakespeare in that way.
excellent hyperrealistic B&W full-arm cooked shrimp tattoo
Doctor here - yeah, it's pretty close to this
