Remember everyone, genocide is not politics, it's facts

Calling a genocide a genocide isn't political.

[-] [email protected] 15 points 1 day ago

In the AIPAC-controlled US? It kind of is.

Damn, Israel really know how to play the Western world. It is not even just the money they funnel to buy Western government support, Israel's status as a major military power in the region convinces the West to further support them. The dramatic surgical precision and Godfather-style attack on Hezbollah by Israel weakened Iran and toppled Russia-backed Assad regime in Syria. It created a domino effect that unforeseeably wrecked the whole rotten house of Russia and Iran's axis of resistance. And for that, the West is indebted to Israel, which Netanyahu and his ilk cynically abuse to silence any criticism of their genocide on Gaza.

It is the same with Turkey. The anti-Assad rebel offensive was greenlighted by Erdogan following Israeli decapitation of Hezbollah. The liberation of Syria prompted Syrians to return to their country which will potentially ease immigration in Europe. Erdogan also managed to convince the Kurds to disarm. These political wins made the West indebted to Erdogan, which in turn emboldened him to strangle what remains of the Turkish democracy by arresting his arch political rivals. Unfortunately, the West is silent on this political purge that Erdogan is executing because he just gained massive political capital. Otherwise, he will threaten to pivot to Russia and/or encourage migrants to go to Europe.

These two authoritarian states played the West to continue on with their own autocratic policies. Gotta hand it to them with these clever chess moves.

we live in a post truth state,

speaking truth is a political act

[-] [email protected] 3 points 21 hours ago

Exactly. If the state can get you to deny what is true, all else follows.

[-] [email protected] 3 points 1 day ago

Technically it is because the United Nations and international courts recognize Genocide as justification for lawful militaristic intervention and war.

So using the word is grounds for expulsion from congress, for example of how it is a political issue, as it is against US Congress rules to advocate the invasion of allied nations.

It's not the company, it's the guy that created the company. Ben & Jerry's is owned by corporate shills now.

Actually it's the independent board of B&J, which has the right to speak out on social issues under their contract with Unilever. The retired founders themselves have also spoken out about the Gaza genocide, separately.

Here's another source, which gives a pretty good breakdown of the corporate situation, despite being a Jewish publication. Perhaps because a lot of Jews are against what Israel has been doing. As they note, Ben and Jerry are themselves Jewish.

Yes sadly Unilever is the parent company of B&J. As much as I would love to support B&J , Unilever is heavily invested in Israel. Unilever even fired the B&J CEO despite promising freedom of political expression of the brand.

[-] [email protected] 26 points 1 day ago

Which makes this statement from the present board courageous in that they too could get fired.

But yeah, your ice cream $$ goes to Unilever.

[-] [email protected] 13 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

Noteworthy is that Ben and Jerry is actively trying to decouple from Unilever.

Ironically, boycotting them is probably the best way to help them. By tanking their revenue, Unilever is more likely to get rid of them

[-] [email protected] 6 points 1 day ago

Whaaat? I was so hyped by the prospect of buying liters of overpriced ice cream

[-] [email protected] 4 points 1 day ago

one day

stay strong

[-] [email protected] 9 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

It is an ice cream company originally built by two hippies that were literally part of the 60's counter-culture.

[-] [email protected] 9 points 1 day ago

careful,

Unilever owns Ben and Jerry's, they responded to their responded by changing some [corporate lingo] to still sell ice cream in the illegal settlements which Ben and Jerry's originally refused to sell to.

so Ben and Jerry's was right, but nothing changed and you should boycott Unilever.

was sad too when I found out

I'm waiting for them to have a flavor for it. Great Grape Gazacide would be my pitch.

[-] [email protected] 20 points 1 day ago

"From the Ripple to the Cream"

[-] [email protected] 7 points 1 day ago

With Gaza fudge strips.

[-] [email protected] 2 points 1 day ago

this is the winner

need this ice cream

[-] [email protected] 4 points 1 day ago

Straight to hell

The East dont have spines either, they even commit their genocides in first person.

No reason to specify the West in this scenario.

[-] [email protected] 1 points 1 day ago

I guess I'm going to eat a lot of ice cream this month

[-] DakRalter 4 points 1 day ago

If it's B&J you're eating, your money is still going to Unilever, who supports settlements.

[-] [email protected] 3 points 1 day ago

This is super sweet of them. If they can reduce the actual added sugar in their product, they will be my ice cream for life.
