That is horrifying. It's all horrifying. I always thought that with everything online that we'd all look at each other and do something, but from this to genocide, it feels like we're stuck in "thoughts and prayers" mode when we should be at "torches and pitchforks." They're human beings, we're human beings. We only get one life. Why the fuck are we doing this to each other.

Because commenting and sharing on social media feels like you're doing something without having to actually do anything.

I don't know, I feel like writing online and telling the traitors to eat shit can be a therapeutic release that keeps you engaged and allows some emotional distance without full dissociation

The worst thing you could do is check out and accept defeat. Or go to a protest without your face covered bc they're using Clearview to track people

Given the media is being silenced it's one of the few tools of communication we have left that hasn't been entirely hijacked by people screaming I <3 free speech and free markets while suppressing both bc they know that in reality they would never survive a press or market they couldn't control and manipulate

The state has a monopoly on violence and none of the people running the state have our best interests in mind or heart. They've sold out to money. From squares to strip malls.

Connect with local resistance

"When officers arrived on scene, they observed a chaotic scene with several federal agents from various agencies attempting to take a female into custody," the department said in a news release. "Federal agents had placed this female under arrest and were attempting to leave in a vehicle. The crowd was unruly, and several people were putting their hands on federal agents and Worcester officers in an attempt to keep the vehicle and the arrestee from leaving. Worcester officers attempted to deescalate the situation and keep everyone safe."

The thing we need to remember is that we outnumber them. Of course, our rising up will trigger the fascist escalation they desire. We'll see how that goes, I guess?

It takes ten average people to flip a car. 4 strong guys...

[–] [email protected] 29 points 1 day ago (4 children)

I'm 40+ so, if I'm lucky, I've got about the same to amount of years ahead of me. It's an interesting, slightly uncomfortable, feeling; knowing I will never trust the US ever again. If an american told me water is wet, I'd double check with just about anyone else before continuing a conversation. Very stupid people.

[–] [email protected] 20 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Well I take some issue with that. What's happening isn't because everyone's dumber than you are, it's happening because powerful people have systematically worked at making this happen. They fuck our schools, they remove our history, they do everything they can to keep this shitshow rolling.

Meanwhile, everyone's just trying to fuckin survive. Someone told people they'd bring the cost of eggs down. That's how politicians work everywhere. They lie to get in power. Here, there, everywhere.

Now, as a blue-collar anarchist I do my best. But most of these people never got critical thinking skills in the first place, and that's the problem.

Education is failing people, and the Right is making sure of it. You'll have this problem wherever you are, given enough time, if you're not careful.

But what do I know, I'm just a hillbilly.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 11 hours ago

I'll add to this that a lot of people calling others stupid, will then turn around and pray to Jebus and believe all the bullshit in their religious text.

Stupidty and complacency come in many flavors.

[–] [email protected] 8 points 1 day ago (1 children)

40+ here too, but in the US.

It’s wild. I’m sure it will come as no surprise that I grew up in a society that assumed America was the center of the universe and that everywhere else on earth was foreign and strange and may as well not exist because we’re the best at everything anyway.

It’s very strange and distressing to see how that image of our country has changed for me and for others our age.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 day ago (1 children)

My friend who is 40+ talks about remembering when America stood for something. He talks about ideals and values.

I'm 28 and have never really known such a place.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Yeah I remember that world. But I bet it helps that we were the last generation where our culture was pretty centralized around television & radio and not the Internet & podcasting.

In hindsight all I see is a corporate media veneer filtering anything my friends or I saw. But hey at least we got some fun Wild West years on the internet afterwards.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 day ago

That's fair. It's just as likely I'm a reflection of modern media requiring engagement (rage-bait and fear-mongering) and negative foreign influence through online propaganda apparatuses.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Since there's been some good replies to this I shall now add my oh so very important reply to the pile.

Water isn't actually wet, water wets things. Is a cup filled with water wet? No, the cup is dry and contains water. Are freshly washed dishes wet? Yeah, they have some water on them that hasn't dried off yet.

"Is water wet", "Is (breakfast) cereal a soup" and "Are hotdogs a sandwich" are some of my favorite stupid nonsense arguments to have. It's entirely pointless but there is an actual right answer going by the definitions

[–] [email protected] 1 points 12 hours ago

That's.. one way to totally miss the point. But you do you.

While this comment may be in jest, it is scarily not far from the truth.

This is how you radicalize people

[–] [email protected] 13 points 1 day ago (3 children)

Another woman, 38-year-old Ashley Spring of Worcester, was also arrested by local police after allegedly throwing "an unknown liquid substance" on officers. She is charged with assault and battery on a police officer, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, disorderly conduct and interfering with a police officer, Worcester police said.

Water it was water, or possibly Dunkin’s iced coffee water, but I bet it came out of a fucking drinking container. Deadly weapon my ass.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 1 day ago (1 children)

So, in MA, if you throw literally anything or any substance at anyone, Assault and Battery with a Dangerous Weapon is the default charge, because state law defines “Dangerous Weapon” as “literally anything that’s not a part of your own body”.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Dangerous and weapon are redundant. And water is neither. Spit, sure but that’s because of diseases and should still be assault but not with a weapon. I hope a judge is rational enough to throw this out.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 day ago

I’m not debating that it’s dumb. I’m just saying that’s what the law is that’s on the books, and that’s the book they’ll throw at you if they can.

This shit is dystopian, but I have to admit that I'm mildly relieved to see these videos of crowds forming to yell at the thugs and get in their way. It gives me some small amount of hope.

Notice how the video is focused on the neighbors watching....but they blur it to 'protect' the identity of the ice thugs.

“There will be times when the struggle seems impossible. I know this already. Alone, unsure, dwarfed by the scale of the enemy. Remember this. Freedom is a pure idea. It occurs spontaneously and without instruction. Random acts of insurrection are occurring constantly throughout the galaxy. There are whole armies, battalions that have no idea that they've already enlisted in the cause. Remember that the frontier of the Rebellion is everywhere. And even the smallest act of insurrection pushes our lines forward. And then remember this. The Imperial need for control is so desperate because it is so unnatural. Tyranny requires constant effort. It breaks, it leaks. Authority is brittle. Oppression is the mask of fear. Remember that. And know this, the day will come when all these skirmishes and battles, these moments of defiance will have flooded the banks of the Empire's authority and then there will be one too many. One single thing will break the siege. Remember this. Try.”
