I have been approved for a home! I shall not after all be homeless.

It is in a new estate, so comes with the standard building noises during the day I have become used to, but should not have the regular demolition sounds. There is a dishwasher. There is heating. There is cooling. There is a walk in pantry and double glazing! Now I have to order a dog door insert for Mr Woof, organise the removalists, and figure out what goes where.

I guess this means I'm officially no longer a Melbournian, I am an official Ballaratian. Or is it a Ballaratbag?

Ballaratatouille

[-] [email protected] 6 points 1 month ago

Yay! You'll need that heating, Ballarat nights are nippy.

And I'm moving just in time for winter. Into the suburb of Winter Valley. ❄️🧊🥶

The garage connected to the house will also be very good for that, less ice scraping from the windshield.

Congrats!! Yay!! And definitely Ballaratbag (as a former Bendigonian)

Congrats!!!

I'd love to move out that way.

Hopefully I can get fully remote by the end of the year.

More good news on the rental front: the agent takes direct deposit rather than insisting on you using an app that stops you from automating the payments unless you pay extra fees.

Tinyest can now say his name. I was surprised cause lets say his name was Tinyest, we often just call him Tiny. But he knows the full thing as well. He some times just says to himself "Mommy, Daddy and Tiny" which is so cute. Sometimes the pet names too.

He can also now say "Come Here" so poor mrs b is getting summoned a LOT. Daddy is mostly just used for playing cars which means forza horizon on the xbox doing jumps.

I just helped out an excitable dog by the name of Sadie, who had gotten outside without authorisation and didn't know how to get back in. Fortunately her people were home. I now smell slightly of wet dog and have a few paw prints on my jeans.

Really happy about the Canadian election results. Anti-Trump and pro democracy won. 🙂

Erin Patterson's trial begins today, I think it'll be really interesting to hear how it turns out, what a wild story it's been.

Early morning movie review

Three Billboards outside Ebbing, Missouri

I finished watching the other day and can't stop thinking about it.

It's about grief and justice.

The sadsI’m feeling overwhelmed by life and getting emotional about things that are either a no win situation and/or probably don’t matter.

I’m just so tired man. I’ve been struggling against so much for so long with no headway and anything good I try to do seems to be for nothing (or gets punished).

At least I can get this tooth removed this week. Due to cost I’ve decided to be awake during it so wish me luck.

Two hours of absolute brain frying over R and stats and plots with my supervisor on coffee and an empty stomach, hunched up on the floor in a tiny room... and that's just the beginning of a very packed day. I just want to go back to sleep 😭

Late breakfast, then help mum with the shopping, then do a small bit of work that has to be done before 2pm my time, then no more screen time: help with cleaning up, lifting stuff, laundry, family friends coming over and then an early exit to go see my brother for dinner (which will involve some Big Conversations too). I have to quarantine my brain from all the cognitively taxing stuff before my head asplode. Python will wait till tomorrow

PS chatgpt has admittedly been very helpful with breaking the inertia of getting started with basic coding. I feel like I'm getting dumber every time but needs must!

You’re doing an absolutely amazing job! Ninja-level juggling

scary stuff out of Europe. In the event of a prolonged outage would be scary. Especially if I'm in the city when it occurs. Seems like my campers gas fridge might work but my solar cuts out when the grid goes down and no battery. To say nothing of water as well.

[-] [email protected] 7 points 1 month ago

This is why I eat a lot of carrots.

So I can guard my single backup can of baked beans in the dark.

[-] [email protected] 8 points 1 month ago

Sadly, the carrot thing is a myth. Deliberately spread by the British government during the war, no less, as an explanation for why they could track German bombers in the dark without letting on that they'd invented radar.

Carrots were one of the few foods it was easy to get lots of. Many fascinating recipes for carroty marmalade!

[-] [email protected] 8 points 1 month ago

TIL! and that's really interesting.

The baked beans remain at risk!

[-] [email protected] 6 points 1 month ago

The government released a whole pile of food related PSAs at the time, telling people about substitutions they could make, thrifty ways to stretch rations further or clever recipes that used food they could get easily in place of using imports.

The "Ministry of Food" put in a ton of work. I've got a cookbook that recreates a lot of their material. It's very carrot-heavy!

The only reasonable solution is to keep a cache of weapons and pick off the weakest neighbours in a time of crisis.

I suggest pensioners as they will have good stock of blankets and canned foods. Also, decent tools and such.

Work your way up the ladder of weakness and you'll be fine.

[-] [email protected] 6 points 1 month ago

I keep a large wooden sword under my bed for this exact purpose. Course if the neighbor has a wooden pen I might be in trouble.

[-] [email protected] 6 points 1 month ago

The penis mightier definitely

Democracy research complete. I have written Nutter next to rather many names. Well meaning ones in several cases but full of crunchy crazies nonetheless. Bring on sausage time!

I think I might vote above the line this year

just too hard to pick which fascist should go last

Still decluttering. This time I'm going through all the kid's toys that have been in storage so i can donate. She had a habit of writing her name on everything.

Had planned to do a bit of garden work this afternoon, bit of leaf sweeping and fill up the green bin. It started to drizzle as soon as I started, so I went inside and made a coffee. I will obey the will of the universe and have an indoors afternoon instead.

I find it hilarious that the things people viewed as insecurities like blushing and undereye circles, are now being more romanticised. When I was in school, people would make fun of me for blushing, and now those same people are putting a fuck ton of blush on their face. Or with undereye circles, they're leaving a bit unconcealed so they can have an "in-built smokey eye"

Beauty trends are so freaking dumb. 😍

I received access to work's marketing automation platform today. Wow, it looks so much nicer than Marketing Cloud. I almost feel like it can't be as powerful because it's so easy to use, but I know that's not the case.

I'm looking forward to getting stuck into this program and learning it inside out. I feel like I'll be able to do so much with it since it's so easy to use. Just sending an email in Marketing Cloud felt like such a battle, so this should be a dream by comparison.

[-] [email protected] 6 points 1 month ago

sore back today so takin' it a bit easy

Slept through the night, but plenty of flu_nightmares. Lots of jaw clenching and teeth grinding has given me a headache 💀

Finally received my order of a hoodie of a cute dog I follow on Instagram – nearly missed it as it’d been sitting at the post office for over a month with no notification that it’d even been sent. Post office lady told me having an Aus Post account would have helped. Oh well, I’m just glad I have it in time for the cool weather and the quality is better than I hoped! And it’s flippin’ ADORABLE!!
