a username or some post/comment reminds me of some person from my past that I haven't thought about in years, and I wonder if maybe there is a crossing of paths without even realizing it

seems really unlikely, but then who can really say, we're just some comrades shitposting and vibing

Pretty sure at least one person in my local org is on here, but we don't acknowledge it, like Baptists who see each other in the liquor store

Meeting another user IRL would be so cool but also REALLY fucking awkward, if your account contains a lot of intimate details about yourself. distress

If you are on this website, that is a very safe assumption.

I once saw someone IRL on hexbear at a lefty meetup that I'm not going to dox myself over. I was wondering if I should have said anything but didn't

in retrospect it would have been a bit weird because i was still an egg back then. also it would have been weird to say hi to another hexbear user IRL like that

[-] [email protected] 9 points 3 months ago

understandable, I was more feeling the mystery of it

nobody break opsec plz!

I saw a guy that looked like David Cross and was wearing this shirt who I felt had a very high chance of being a power poster.

[-] [email protected] 10 points 3 months ago

i used to have this t-shirt a long long time ago

[-] [email protected] 6 points 3 months ago

Yeah, I still do somewhere

I have a friend that had this shirt a long long time ago…

[-] [email protected] 9 points 3 months ago

that's a great bit of comradely festiveness

I get a bit paranoid that coworkers will find my comments somewhere and realize I'm actually a straight-up dirty commie and not just a vaguely progressive liberal... my workplace has no real labor protections that would help me and I need to stay employed.

[-] [email protected] 7 points 3 months ago

Same. I feel like I need to start masking as a lib because the fascist rhetoric from co-workers is gonna get me fired. I try not to talk too politically but I have this one co-worker that is a straight up fash, and I'm gonna end up saying something. I just hope it's liberal-coded enough.

[-] [email protected] 5 points 3 months ago

Yep, always gotta keep plausible deniability. I try to gently provide based takes in a way that is easily acceptable when I can, though.

[-] [email protected] 4 points 3 months ago

I try to frame it as coming from an apolitical History Guy angle: "Damn that's crazy man, well good luck with that but you're probably gonna get owned, I'll be here chillin."

[-] [email protected] 4 points 3 months ago

I got drunk at the work Xmas party and told a Trump guy that I was a communist (and that I wanted to fuck the HR lady). He was actually kind of cool about it later.

I just assume that some of my irl friends lurk here and that we'll never discuss it

I've done a litmus test a few times with my offline commie/anarchist friends and only ran across one person that knew of hexbear. His response was "that's still a thing?" lol.

Actually I guess he's still an online friend but he's a founding member of a neighboring chapter of the org I'm in. So not fully online friend?

[-] [email protected] 12 points 3 months ago

If I meet any of you irl, it's Highlander rules straight up xi-reactionary-spotted

[-] [email protected] 11 points 3 months ago

Ive met plenty of people from here over the years and it's always been nice! Can be awkward, sure, but that just comes with meeting new people i think. I'm not super great at socializing anyways side-eye-1

[-] [email protected] 10 points 3 months ago

fedposting I'm willing to meet up with any DC-area comrades

[-] [email protected] 5 points 3 months ago

Northern Virginia folx, let's meet up!

[-] [email protected] 8 points 3 months ago

We met at the agency retreat at Martha's Vineyard last summer, remember?

[-] [email protected] 8 points 3 months ago

if any of you see me irl then either i have moved or something has gone terribly wrong.

[-] [email protected] 7 points 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago)

I know one poster because his opsec was really bad, but he's moved too far away from where we met for me to just tell him in person and I don't have a secure way to message him to let him know :( , plus I did not want to then leak my identity to him.

[-] [email protected] 2 points 3 months ago

Opsec at 100

[-] [email protected] 7 points 3 months ago

i am in your walls

[-] [email protected] 6 points 3 months ago

does that count the watercooler at quantico?

[-] [email protected] 3 points 3 months ago

Egh, I wouldn't know.

Barely know any people now IRL, let alone on this site.

[-] [email protected] 3 points 3 months ago

This was inspired by thinking of a friend I knew in high school that I haven't spoken to in more than a decade and have no idea how to find at this point. We were not really that politically conscious or anything at the time besides some vague anarchist vibes, but just kinda weird nerds. I wonder if by chance they might be on this site. Not that I think any specific user is identifiable IRL for me.

[-] [email protected] 2 points 3 months ago

That's nice, you had a friend in HS. Wish you'd be able to meet them 😊

[-] [email protected] 3 points 3 months ago

Thx @[email protected]

[-] [email protected] 3 points 3 months ago
