Did you even watch the movie? They explain it right away!

Someone "blew it up" and the resulting explosion launched it into space.

I've only watched the musical from the Simpsons.

No, this is a misunderstanding. This is just an unusual rock formation. It has nothing to do with the actual statue, that still stands on Earth.

[-] [email protected] 27 points 3 months ago

Oh, kinda like Mt Rushmore. Nature truly is remarkable.

It's actually still earth and the protagonist time travelled.

They travelled to the past when only the upper half of the statue was built.

[-] [email protected] 45 points 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago)

It was a different statue that looked the same. Just a coincidence. It's not that deep.

[-] [email protected] 15 points 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago)

Buy why is it human? I'm just happy they fixed this oversight in the (vastly superior) 2001 remake with the Lincoln Memorial.

[-] [email protected] 10 points 3 months ago

Just a coincidence, it was actually shaped by erosion

No! They did it! They blew it up!

And then the apes blew up their society too. How could this happen?

And then the birds took over and ruined their society.

And then the cows. And then...I don't know, is that a slug, maybe?

Noooo!

They sold it, to pay for the debts after the stock market crash of 2025.

[-] [email protected] 7 points 3 months ago

I mean copper is an expensive metal these days. Probably make mint selling Lady Liberty for scrap.

Unfortunately she’s hollow, like a shitty chocolate easter bunny.

GOD DAMN YOU ALL TO HELL!

I like how the only thing left of fucking New York City is made of iron and thin sheets of copper.

[-] [email protected] 12 points 3 months ago

For reasons not directly related to the movie, I just so happen to have this on hand.

More confusing is how it ended up next to cliffs on a shore line when it lives in a marshland enviroment

[-] [email protected] 7 points 3 months ago

She may have just walked there, as seen in the documentary Ghostbusters 2.

So… in the novel… it IS actually a different planet and obviously the Statue of Liberty is not there.

You likely already know this but the statue in the movie is a convenient symbol for change over time which is relevant to the book. No spoilers.

Anyway… read the novel! It’s great.

[-] [email protected] 6 points 3 months ago

I haven't read the book, but that makes this even funnier to me. Lol

Will add that to my list.

Sold to aliens for scrap by a bankrupt country (for 10 hamburgers, which is approximately 10 hamburgers in todays hamburgers).

What they don't explain is how everything else is gone, and even the entire coastline is different, but somehow the upper half of that particular copper statue has somehow survived

[-] [email protected] 10 points 3 months ago

It turns out, that on their planet, the apes have made an exact replica of the statue of liberty

A wizard did it.

[-] [email protected] 8 points 3 months ago

The bigger plot hole is that this is not consistent with any global warming or giant earthquake. Rising sea levels would not have a beach and rocky formation right next to statue of liberty. And a crazy violent earthquake that would move land and rock well above the statue of liberty and right next to it, would have knocked the statue over.
