Summary

Ted Cruz wants to block an FCC program that would allow schools and libraries to lend Wi-Fi hotspots for off-premises use, citing concerns about online safety and potential censorship of conservative viewpoints.

The program, introduced under the Universal Service Fund, aims to help students and patrons lacking internet access.

Cruz argues it exceeds FCC authority and could increase consumer bills.

Proponents, including former FCC Chair Jessica Rosenworcel, say it operates within the existing budget and addresses the digital divide.

They are really good at backwards defining everything.

Being able to look up information without being stopped is censorship!

Brand your lies as the truth and anything that contradicts it as censorship. Now the argument isn't against what was said, the argument is against your ability to say anything.

War is peace. Freedom is slavery. Ignorance is strength.

Every school I have ever head about has content filters.

Libraries should not because they are not just for children. But Republicans, for all of their crowing about parental rights, don't actually care about the fact that if your kid is doing something you don't want them to do at the library, that's between you and them.

These allowed many of our kids to participate in school during covid.

Nearly everything my kids do for school is online now, in Google Classrooms. It has been this way since well before covid shut down the school buildings for almost a full year. If they didn't have internet access at home, they essentially would not be able to do their schoolwork.

It's enough of an equity issue that I don't assign homework.

I actually survey them and assign extra homework to the kids without internet. Finding access helps them learn to bootstrap better.

Such an emotional roller coaster you've put me on!

Tell us you hate children without saying you hate children.

Again.

Nobody: We will censor conservative views. Ted Cruz: Not if I censor You first.

[–] [email protected] 8 points 1 day ago

why would the 1% want your broke kids to get educated and take the jobs that their own rich kids are going to need?

[–] [email protected] 7 points 1 day ago (1 children)

censorship of conservative viewpoints.

Which viewpoint? I'd love an example. Is it really viewpoints or is it just hate filled language?
