Trump has arrived in office with the force of an avalanche; ~~ending~~ slowing a genocide on the one hand, while simultaneously promising a total nightmare for minorities and the poor throughout and outside the United States on the other hand. [edited for clarity; I do not actually think Trump has ended the Palestinian genocide obviously, I was making a joke - but the ceasefire is a genuine improvement in conditions for millions of people right now who are on the edge of death, so it cannot be dismissed]

It's still far too early to truly compare and contrast his imperial strategy with Biden's, but initial signs show that there does appear to be somewhat of a reorientation. Biden was famous for being two-faced; ostensibly offering aid and stability, while also blowing up your pipeline to ensure you did not actually have an alternative to his idea. Trump, meanwhile, seems only really capable of aggression, threatening several "allied" nations with what may as well be sanctions because of the economic harm they'd do. I suspect we'll be debating for a long time how much of this can be attributed to the specific characteristics of Trump, or whether he merely embodies the zeitgeist of imperial decline - a wounded empire lashing out with extreme violence to try and convince everybody, including themselves, that they can still be the world imperialist hegemon.

I'll admit it: I did not believe that Trump would actually try and go ahead with putting tariffs on basically anybody who annoys him. And while the threat could still be empty in regards to countries like China and Canada, Colombia is the first indication of the potential of his strategy. Despite some fiery words from President Petro, after Trump's administration revealed the punishment if Colombia did not agree, it appears that Colombia will in fact be accepting deported migrants after all. It's funny how that works.

Israel-Palestine Conflict

If you have evidence of Israeli crimes and atrocities that you wish to preserve, there is a thread here in which to do so.

Russia-Ukraine Conflict

Examples of Ukrainian Nazis and fascists
Examples of racism/euro-centrism during the Russia-Ukraine conflict

Sources:

Defense Politics Asia's youtube channel and their map. Their youtube channel has substantially diminished in quality but the map is still useful.
Moon of Alabama, which tends to have interesting analysis. Avoid the comment section.
Understanding War and the Saker: reactionary sources that have occasional insights on the war.
Alexander Mercouris, who does daily videos on the conflict. While he is a reactionary and surrounds himself with likeminded people, his daily update videos are relatively brainworm-free and good if you don't want to follow Russian telegram channels to get news. He also co-hosts The Duran, which is more explicitly conservative, racist, sexist, transphobic, anti-communist, etc when guests are invited on, but is just about tolerable when it's just the two of them if you want a little more analysis.
Simplicius, who publishes on Substack. Like others, his political analysis should be soundly ignored, but his knowledge of weaponry and military strategy is generally quite good.
On the ground: Patrick Lancaster, an independent and very good journalist reporting in the warzone on the separatists' side.

Unedited videos of Russian/Ukrainian press conferences and speeches.

https://t.me/mod_russia_en ~ Russian Ministry of Defense. Does daily, if rather bland updates on the number of Ukrainians killed, etc. The figures appear to be approximately accurate; if you want, reduce all numbers by 25% as a 'propaganda tax', if you don't believe them. Explosion in Rheinmetall weapons factory in Spain (southeastern Spain, Autonomous Community of Murcia, not to be confused with 'Murica) (archive link from a Spanish news website). Translating from Spanish:

Six workers have been harmed by the explosion, which happened in an ammo storage facility, with one of the workers being gravely wounded. Rheinmetall has a total of 7 factories in Spain. In August 2023 Rheinmetall bought the Spanish weapons firm "Expal Systems" for $1.3bn. The company, now named "Expal Munitions", is specialized in the manufacture of bombs, mortar ammunition, and mid-distance projectiles, as well as rocket propulsion systems and 155mm artillery projectiles, delivered to both other countries in the EU and to Ukraine. AFAIK, the causes of the explosions are still unknown (or at least unpublished).

Unemployment is high and salaries are low in general in southern Spain, so I find it hard to rejoice on the harm to the workers. That said: unlimited explosions in western military industrial factories.

http://www.indiatoday.in/amp/world/shows/story/the-buzz-abolishing-income-tax-donald-trumps-plan-and-what-it-means-for-you-glbs-2672126-2025-01-30 So trump wants to abolish income, corporate tax and then make up the short in tariffs and tariff taxes. So the big brain idea he said from his own mouth is to tax other countries. But the US income tax bought in over 2 trillion. To make that up in tariffs they'd have to massively increase imports to a degree ridiculous degree.

Institutional traders are not buying NVDA cheap in after hours trading. I saw a lot of speculation that the hype around this sell off was just to scare retail investors off so the big firms could buy it up cheap overnight, but that does not seem to be the case. I expect further decline later this week, if not tomorrow.

U.S. President Orders Deportation of Pro-Palestinian Foreign Students - Telesur English

Article

The Secretaries of State, Education, and Homeland Security will report on activities that could be considered ‘anti-Semitic’. On Wednesday, U.S. President Donald Trump signed an executive order to identify and deport foreign students and professors who participated in pro-Palestinian protests.

He instructed the Secretaries of State, Education, and Homeland Security to ask universities to monitor and report on activities by foreign students and professors that could be considered “antisemitic.” His executive order includes several provisions regarding antisemitism but focuses particularly on the protests that erupted on U.S. campuses, where approximately 3,100 people were arrested last year.

Between April and June 2024, thousands of students and academics across the United States protested against the genocide in Gaza and against Washington’s support for Israel. “Jewish students have faced an unrelenting barrage of discrimination; denial of access to campus common areas and facilities, including libraries and classrooms; and intimidation, harassment, and physical threats and assault,” the order said referring to the 2024 protests.

However, members of the American academic community have repeatedly argued that the protests were not intended to be anti-Semitic, but rather sought to highlight the consequences of the Israeli military offensive in Gaza, where the Zionist army killed more than 47,000 Palestinians. The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), one of the country’s leading organizations defending Muslim rights, warned that it would challenge the order in court if it is implemented.

It is getting late, and I'm going to stop researching this before hallucinations set in, because this is very strange.

Brazil’s Lula speaks over the phone with Russian President Vladimir Putin - Brazilian Goverment

They discussed issues on global, bilateral agenda: Brazilian president expressed concern about international scenario, reaffirmed Brazil's commitment to promoting peace. resident Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva spoke over the phone with the president of the Russian Federation, Vladimir Putin, on Monday (27) morning, to discuss issues regarding the global and bilateral agenda.

Lula expressed his concern about the international panorama and reiterated Brazil's commitment to promoting peace. Putin thanked parties such as Brazil for their contribution to efforts towards a solution to the conflict in Ukraine, and showed interest in the work of the Group of Friends for Peace, launched by Brazil and China at the UN last September. The two leaders agreed to remain in permanent contact on this issue.

The Russian president congratulated Brazil for the launch of the Global Alliance against Hunger and Poverty during Brazil's presidency of the G20, noting that Russia was one of the first nations to join the group. He also suggested resuming the High-Level Bilateral Commission between the two countries.

The Russian leader expressed his support for the Brazilian presidency of BRICS, and revealed his willingness to continue advancing initiatives to facilitate trade and investment among members and in other areas. Both leaders welcomed Indonesia's entry as a full member of BRICS.

President Lula thanked Russia for the invitation to the celebration, in Moscow, of the 80th anniversary of the victory in World War II on May 9, stating he intended to attend. Putin emphasized that he was in St. Petersburg today for the celebration of the 80th anniversary of the end of the siege of Leningrad and expressed satisfaction at the prospect of welcoming the Brazilian president, aimed at strengthening relations between Brazil and Russia.

I guess Lula da Silva is going to visit Russia. Z Man is not going to be happy about this lol

The Trouble With Tariffs: What You Think About Prices Matters to the Fed

When or whether the Fed resumes cuts rests in large part on the outlook for inflation which, in turn, could be shaped this year by whether Trump follows through on threats to raise tariffs. Last week, Trump said he was considering whether to impose higher duties on imports from Canada and Mexico by this Saturday.

Tariffs remain a key wild card for the Fed’s outlook because of concerns over how they could influence businesses’ and consumers’ expectations of future inflation.

I think this offers a key insight into why Trump is threatening tariffs on everyone. This is how the federal government can gain control over the Federal Reserve monetary policy. By forcing the market to anticipate inflation, the Fed is less likely to lower interest rates - Trump then controls the timing of rate cut by lowering the tariffs when he sees fit.

Most likely, Trump will use the interest rate as leverage in his negotiation with China. He’d said he would visit China in the first 100 days. As I have mentioned before, China desperately needs the Fed to lower the rate so they can refinance away their mounting local government debt. So this could be a very powerful leverage if used correctly.

Each new interview Putin gives to Pavel Zarubin (he's been giving them a lot) becomes longer and less clear.

Imagine the Soviet command in 1945, to whom the Wehrmacht command says: "We won't sign anything with a gun to our temple, pull the army away from Berlin." And Stalin is like: zer gut, bitte schön, I'm leaving-leaving-leaving. Can you imagine?

And now imagine Stalin saying: I won't sign anything with Keitel and Jodl, they are illegitimate, they didn't go through democratic elections, they haven't had elections there since 1933, they can refuse to sign at any time, and then what, go to war again or something. Can you imagine?

Am I the only one who thinks I'm in a madhouse?...

This is the state of Russian diplomacy right now lol.

Putin will fold to Trump, once again deceived for the nth time.

Update on the situation in the DRC: Things are escalating, situation is critical in Goma, with most of the city in control by the M23 rebels if not already fallen to it, violence escalating, and healthcare systems overwhelmed. South African peacekeeping forces as part of the SADC mission have lost four more lives, total KIA of 13 now. Photos of M23 and/or Rwandan forces have been geolocated to the airport and city centre in Goma, and at official Rwandan border crossings. Embassies of nations that are suspected to be allied to Rwanda (Uganda, Rwanda itself, France, Belgium and the United States) have been attacked by protestors in other parts of the DRC, with protestors saying that they are ready to go to war against Rwanda and to send weapons to the east (to Goma).

There has been lots of movement in the skies in South Africa, with the South African Air Force (SAAF) redeploying from their main base, Makhado Air Force Base, in Polokwane, South Africa; to Waterkloof Airforce Base in Pretoria, South Africa; and with round trips from suspected transport aircraft. I also suspect that the South African military has commandeered civilian Airlink aircraft for VIP transport. If the South African Air Force is to be deployed to fight in the DRC, they will likely fly out to Lusaka, Zambia within the next few days, maybe even tonight. That's if they deploy.

Milei has announced that he will build a fence on the Argentina-Bolivia border and that he may plan similar decisions with Paraguay and Brazil.

For Brazil, Argentina plans to intensify its “border control” with Santa Catarina, more specifically between the cities of Bernardo de Irigoyen (AR) and Dionísio Cerqueira (BR). Although no fence has been announced, the Argentine government is not ruling out the possibility. For Paraguay, the measure is planned for the borders of the Argentine provinces of Chaco and Salta. Security Minister Patricia Bullrich said that “within our border we do what we want. We are putting a fence around our house, our homeland”.

Lula please send your Super Tucanos and bomb Buenos Aires, the people yearns to be free from this Ancap demon
