Haha internet goes [Error 404]

(Shoutout to Briar, an app that lets you communicate without the internet, very useful for an organized group of protesters)

ACLU has an app for police encounters that sends it directly to them for if the cop tries to delete from your phone

[–] [email protected] 27 points 6 days ago

Unfortunately that app is for an old version of Android and I can't actually download it on my phone. It has a lot of negative reviews saying it keeps crashing or freezing which sucks because I'd really like an app like that that works.

I truly believe that anyone that believes that it's already happening will have their beliefs cemented, the people that reject any notion of fascism will reject it, and the people that are on the fence are too old or too dumb to actually make an informed decision

People still have no idea how bad it's going to get. People are still acting like this is just normal bad, a unfortunate moment in our otherwise decent system and society. This is not the reality. Things are going to get bad. This isn't doomerism, this is reality.

Please, take the necessary steps to secure and provide for you and your loved ones, and genuinely consider developing some kind of exit strategy. Do not downplay this until it's too late; be prepared before the sky turns red.

One of the biggest lies of my life is hearing, "never again". It's happening again and nobody is stopping it. Everyone is asleep at the wheel.

Yeah, America is a overtly fascist nation now.

[–] [email protected] 16 points 5 days ago (4 children)

For the younger generation, yeah, probably, for us older folks, we still remember a time when America at least kept the veneer that we were better than Nazis.

Ima just post a comment I left on another morally nostalgic commenter:

Well, we started out with a genocide so terrible Hitler idolized it and called it “The First Great Cleansing”. Also, you ever seen this image from the 1940’s? It’s in Madison Square Garden.

Also, when did America join the fight against the axis powers? Oh, 2 years after the war began? Only after Pearl Harbor? You’d think a country so moral would join the fight against genocide quicker.

America was never a good, decent or moral country.

Henry Ford was a Nazi. Ringing any bells?

More questions for the American Moral Supremacists:

When were black people welcomed into the citizenship and regarded as equals?

When did women get access to bank accounts?

What happened to the buffalo?

Anyone whose country suffered through a period of fascist dictatorship will tell you that that making children swear the pledge of allegiance thing was fascist as fuck, and that's just the tip of the shitberg.

That alleged veneer was gossamer thin at its thickest.

You weren't fooling anyone outside your borders.

Now even sporting a GeStaPo (Geheime Staats-Polizei or Secret Federal Police). They were the ones who rounded up the "enemies of the state" in Nazi Germany.

[–] [email protected] 96 points 6 days ago* (last edited 6 days ago) (2 children)

Yeah, that's why the whole Trump program to "Report any suspected DEI hires" is so scary.

It's straight up a call to report any ~~jews~~ transpeople to the secret police.

Though I wonder what they would have done if they found any "DEI Material", especially since it's hard to quantify.

Where I work we have instructions on the walls to legal immigrants warning them that discrimination is illegal and what their supervisor is and is not allowed to do. The rules apply to everyone, but the way they're written it sounds like they're ESPECIALLY there to make sure folks from out of town don't get lied to about what the laborforce is REALLY like.

Would that count as DEI? I don't know, I'd assume so because it makes reference to people who aren't male or white and that's all "DEI" seems to mean.

[–] [email protected] 39 points 6 days ago (1 children)

It doesn't actually qualify as DEI, but it's not like definitions have ever mattered. Trump got rid of the (first female) commandant of the USCG, presumably because she's a woman, or maybe because she went after sex offenders. To my knowledge, she wasn't a DEI hire or anything. She earned that position, as much as anyone has.

[–] [email protected] 15 points 6 days ago (1 children)

And even if she was a DEI hire she probably would have qualifications for the job because the point of DEI is to hire diverse similarly qualified workers. Trump pretends that DEI just means anyone who is not a white male is a DEI hire

They added the A letter for "Accomodations", so the disabled is also getting this treatment.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 4 days ago

Accomodations? That's not good

[–] [email protected] 36 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Yeah, I got an email in my gov address encouraging me to disclose any DEI stuff within the next ten days without any penalties or face penalties of it's discovered after that.

[–] [email protected] 24 points 5 days ago

It's important to resist this in any way you can. One of the strengths of democracy is that because so many people are part of government, it requires a lot of people to participate in making dictatorship work. It can happen, as in Russia or North Korea, but it isn't supposed to be easy.

The first step I'd suggest is to establish private communication with others in your department so you can coordinate a response without your supervisors knowing. A mass walkout/general strike in the case of firings should be a consideration.

[–] [email protected] 47 points 6 days ago

They’re literally going to schools and going “Papers, please”.

Ring any bells?

In the words of the late great David Lynch, "Fix your hearts, or die"

[–] [email protected] 45 points 6 days ago (2 children)

Is it illegal to disobey an executive order? It's not a law so what happens if one refuses to comply?

[–] [email protected] 65 points 6 days ago (1 children)

Executive orders have the force of law, until courts shut it down.

So its not illegal as long as the court side with you in the end (but you might still get fired if you are a government employee that disobeyed orders)

looks at the composition of the supreme court

ohh... right... 😖

[–] [email protected] 19 points 6 days ago

Executive orders have less force than federal law.

[–] [email protected] 18 points 6 days ago

It's not illegal, but most government employees work for the executive branch, so you can theoretically be fired for not obeying the chief executive (president). Just like someone at a company can be fired for disobeying the CEO, unless there is actually a law protecting the specific behavior.

[–] [email protected] 17 points 5 days ago* (last edited 5 days ago)

Original source (reddit)

They're talking about the federal Veterans Administration, in case that's unclear.

Edit: I've also confirmed with a federal employee I know that this is happening at the SBA as well, this is probably happening throughout the federal government.

[–] [email protected] 33 points 6 days ago

Probably Veterans Administration, a federal agency that would be expected to comply with the executive orders.

[–] [email protected] 16 points 6 days ago

Veterans Administration

[–] [email protected] 12 points 5 days ago

There are women and people of color in the Trump administration. I think people need to start reporting him for his DEI hiring.

What does a "VA police officer" do? Or look like?

[–] [email protected] 9 points 5 days ago

Basically the federal version of the hospital security guard. They look like regular cops but with a fed badge.

[–] [email protected] 11 points 6 days ago (2 children)
[–] [email protected] 16 points 6 days ago (1 children)

Veterans administration, hospital for military vets

[–] [email protected] 9 points 5 days ago (1 children)

I'm glad you answered that; I thought it was referring to a policeman employed by the state of Virginia.
