I've had a pretty bad day so I decided to tune into the Majority Report live show just now for some schadenfraude, and they're talking to liberal caller who sounds of the verge of tears, who keeps asking how do we know Trump even won democratically, how will we ever know when Democrats are gracious losers and too respectful to check? and then goes on to insist that while he agrees that "we need to get organised" it's important to remember that it "doesn't have to mean joining an organisation" and can just be personal little things.

This really is a distillation of what zero materialism does. There's been about four more calls now and they're all a version of:

What depresses me a bit right now is the fact that my feed on social media is full of posts from libs talking about resistance, organizing, hope. These are the same people that have been at brunch for four years straight, despite the genocide in Palestine.

I know people are kind of enjoying schadenfreude here, but it is alarming how many liberals are just going mask off in their tantrum against ethnic minorities in the US, and just brazenly expressing not only depraved indifference to Palestine/Gaza but active contempt and hatred of them and their sympathizers which liberals blame for losing the election. Their coping mechanisms are devolving into *maybe we shouldn't protect trans people, immigrants, BIPOC. PEP is also clearly the right choice."
I felt like our secret shared hope was that liberals would somehow rediscover their affection for organizing, protesting, canvassing for causes, but AOC encapsulated it in her video about #resistance being ceremonial and performative bullshit.
Life is going to get worse, and I'd be fooling myself to declare that the difference between a Harris defeat from a victory is the normalization of reactionary politics. It just stings differently because in 2016 there was a vague hope, given Sanders' campaign and reinvigoration of socialism/leftism, that life did not have to be that way.

It's truly baffling that people could look historically at US elections and unequivocally say "When people are concerned about the economy, the incumbent party doesn't do well...........................................but this election it'll be different!" 
The fact that the campaign didn't distance themselves from Biden will truly be studied for generations (who am I kidding, it probably won't)

As far as I can tell the only states he won without a majority are Michigan and Wisconsin. But just barely and only because Democrats forced RFK to stay on the ballot in those states lmao.
I'm gonna be honest, I think this was all down to inflation and Biden's unpopularity and any democrat running nationally in this environment was just fucked no matter what.
Harris and the rest of the Democrats were and are way too dismissive of real economic issues; there's examples in this very thread of them still doing the whole "Ignore the voters: the economy is actually the best it's ever been, and here's why: (1/942)" charade.
I'm genuinely unsure if this incompetence is on purpose or on accident - do they actually believe that the average American is doing really well because they're just in delusional bubbles of rich friends, or are they knowingly trying to sell a false image to try and convince people in lieu of - gasp - doing something that doesn't benefit the top 0.01% for the first time in ~250 years? Regardless, I think that a Democrat who ran on solving genuine economic issues and disconnected from Biden's terrible management could have won. But such a figure would never have been tolerated in the election. In fact, I think they'd be Corbyn'd and they'd just tank their own campaign to ensure that the Republicans win, so in that sense, Bernie also would not have won in this environment.
So in that sense, saying "any democrat running nationally in this environment was just fucked no matter what" is correct, but not on their own merits, but because somebody who could win would not be allowed to win. The Venn diagram is two separated circles.

The Democrats have nobody to blame but themselves. You cannot beat Trump by running as a centrist and campaigning with Liz Cheney. You give people nothing. You promise healthcare reform and student debt relief and then don't do shit.
There's a reason Trump's "drain the swamp" lies work so well. People know both parties are controlled by their corporate owners, and they're sick of it. Trumpism has it's roots in disaffected working class people, they've just been convinced minorities are to blame for the faults of capitalism.
When material conditions worsen, people are more likely to embrace fascism, especially when there's no alternative but the status quo. If they had let Bernie run in 2016, he would've beat Trump then. But no, the Dems love the status quo, they love their corporate owners, and most of all they love genocide. End the Demokkkrat party.
