Negro Matapacos (“Cop-Killer Blackie”) was a famous stray dog from thestreets of Santiago who joined student protests across the city from 2010, and in particular during the 2011 movement for free education.

he was a stray dog from the streets of Santiago, and began joining student demonstrations in 2010. The following year, one of the biggest social movements since the fall of the military dictatorship began, fighting for free education and against neoliberal reforms to the education system.

Negro Matapacos was then seen regularly at every demonstration, defying tear gas and water cannons and always barking at or attacking only the riot police, and never any students or rioters. He subsequently continued to appear sporadically at future demonstrations, and hung out on university campuses, becoming beloved to student and radical movements as a symbol of resistance to violent authority.

His last days were spent resting with people who took him in, with a crowdfunded veterinarian.

Some people who knew him sent us some of their memories of him, telling us how he defied tear gas and water cannons, and only ever barked at or attacked police officers, and never students or rioters.

After his death, his legacy lives on in songs, street murals, an award-winning documentary and in the memories of all those who knew him. He was a good boy.

The main application for VR i can see is putting on a VR emulator and playing SNES and going waow it feels like I'm actually sitting around all day playing games.

Or putting on a movie and going waow it feels like I'm actually sitting around watching a movie.

Hey Canada, from a purely aesthetic perspective Hudson Bay is clearly doing that sci-fi worldbuilding thing where there is a big hole in the normal world map for thematic reasons/to imply a colony drop as a historical event/as a Gundam reference, and I think that is kinda cliched and cringe, could you maybe try filling it up?

VTuber postingFinally got around to watching the first day of Hololive's Breaking Dimensions concert--definitely glad I didn't pay for it since the quality of the full group concerts is nearly consistent enough to justify the cost IMO, but there were some nice moments in there.

Performance-wise, the highlights were

  • Anything involving FuwaMoco solo or in small units (so cool to see them on stage where they belong after grinding for so long, and I appreciate all the bones they throw us boomers with their song choices like Puru Puru Pururin)
  • Bibbidiba (goddamn Suisei is amazing, I'm downloading both her solo concerts rn)
  • Beyond the way (KiaRissa love, poor Mumei third wheeling but she's got a great voice)

Vibes-wise,

  • Carbonated Love (absolute banger, love the para-para dancing)
  • The opening and closing songs (I'm a sucker for that particular "anthemic big group idol song" sound (see also: Nijisanji's Virtual to LIVE, iDOLM@STER's Star!!)
  • That new original with Fauna and Mumei perfectly capturing that mid 2000s pop punk emo energy (I didn't even realize it was an original at first and was so confused why there were no Google hits for the lyrics)
  • The Biboo and Calli talk segment (Biboo has so much energy and she's an absolute natural on stage. Definitely has room to improve on the technical side with singing/dancing but with all the work she's put in she's pretty solid already and she's got that performer's instinct which is hard to teach, so I look forward to seeing how she'll develop)

I haven't seen any spoilers so idk what exactly is gonna happen in Day 2, but I'm looking forward to solos from Nerissa and Mumei and hopefully some more Suisei and Korone.

I've always used the default mouse sensitivity options. Should I experiment with increasing it?

working rn & my python script which aggregates data from lots of files and just keeps the useful (for me) stuff now prepopulates the output with an excel formula i-cant

formula = '''=NOT(XOR(EXACT(E3,"-"),EXACT(E2,"-")))'''

it seems stupid and hacky but also clever, because the output is going to read in excel anyway and it's way easier than refactoring this quick aggregator script to do the calculation itself. No one i can talk to about this IRL gives a fuck, I think this is kinda funny. Also fuck excel, it's powerful but also sucks ass agony

So I stayed at a friends house recently and I walked to pick up a prescription for them and I definitely want to live in a 15 minute city someday. They can even get to a supermarket with a 10 minute bus ride.

Sadly, for the moment I do not. But someday...

I actually feel really cool about this marketing project I just put the finishing touches on. I had to learn about design, python, word documents, formatting, printing, trimming, and sending sophisticated emails. I can't feel too cool because it's marketing and that's cringe. But I automated the fuck out of it by taking more time and frustration than I'll presumably ever use iterating over it by hand. But if I ever land into a sales and marketing role then I'll have a neat little tool on my side.

Everything to do with the USA's own Imperial Backyard. From hispanics to the originary peoples of the americas to the diasporas, South America to Central America, to the Caribbean to North America (yes, we're also there).

Post memes, art, articles, questions, anything you'd like as long as it's about Latin America. Try to tag your posts with the language used, check the tags used above for reference (and don't forget to put some lime and salt to it).

Here's a handy resource to understand some of the many, many colloquialisms we like to use across the region.
