I don't know shit about politics. All I know is that in the UK the Labour party won, and the Conservative party lost.

I read some protestors are protesting against racism. What is this about? Protesting against new party that just won? I thought the Labour party was left-wing, meaning they are more on the social-equality side? I'm lost.

I read some protestors are protesting against racism.

There have been counter-protests which have vastly outnumbered the supremacist protest. It's great to see.

Basically this was triggered by a false rumor that recent child murders were committed by a Muslim immigrant, where in reality they were an unstable 1st generation (so fully UK born and raised) and from a Christian family. It was basically the tipping point for a lot of pent-up racists. A former MI6 agent has pretty much confirmed this rumor was probably started by a propaganda group, likely Russian, and likely a response to a more left-leaning political party recently being voted into No. 10.

Weirdos whipped up into a frenzy about “forriners stealing benefits” by farage and his far right party

ed. Asylum seekers in hotels etc have been here for years, well before the new government came in. Its only since labour came into power the far right have decided to be violent. At no point did they ever care, until labour won and farage didn't get seated. weirdo musko has also been posting a lot of hate speech and bullshit, which foments further anger and violence.

Anecdotally from some article I read, on average the ~~protesters~~ rioters 40+ year old white men who you would find in wetherspoons 6 pints in on a wednesday morning

Was this the article? https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/article/2024/aug/07/rioter-southport-jailed-far-right

I looked at the photos and thought, what a bunch of losers. Read the article and sure enough, losers.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 months ago

They're not protesters; they're rioters

[–] [email protected] -1 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Uhh....

[–] [email protected] 0 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Would you mind sharing the riots about asylum seekers and whatever else from the last five years? If you have a correction, post it. Dont just leave a useless sarcastic comment.

I am also speaking United Kingdom specifically

[–] [email protected] -2 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago) (1 children)

the last five years

Fascist violence has been around in the UK for longer than five years. Where did five years come from?

[–] [email protected] 1 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago) (1 children)

An arbitrary date

edit. Im not arguing its not been a problem for a long time. I am just saying the violence ramped up very recently compared to the last five years for an example arbitrary date

[–] [email protected] -2 points 2 months ago (1 children)

I am just saying the violence ramped up very recently compared to the last five years for an example arbitrary date

Why?

Ok you are a troll. good bye.

[–] [email protected] 0 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Then use your brain and have a discussion. Rather than “why” like an annoying child.

[–] [email protected] -3 points 2 months ago (1 children)

If you want to enter into a discussion then use your brain and answer the extremely simple question asked of you.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 2 months ago (1 children)

“why why why” and I did answer.

Some questions for you as well. Do you agree or disagree there have been more riots in the last few weeks, than the preceding 5 years? This is the topic of discussion I stated at the start. If you don’t want to compare to the last five years, what time period would you pick instead?

“uhhh” - what problem do you have with my initial statement? Do you have any response beyond “uhh”. Would you like to explain your thoughts on the topic?

“Why 5 years” - as a general timeframe to discuss. I am not talking about all of history. Pick 10 years. Pick the time since conservatives took over. Pick the time labour was in power before that. Its arbitrary to allow for a focused discussion

“Why should I pick a date” - because you are replying “why” to every comment. So you decide what time period you want to discuss.

“im not trolling” - then engage in the discussion.

[–] [email protected] -2 points 2 months ago (1 children)

“Why 5 years”

I wasn't asking why 5 years, I was asking why you're saying the violence has ramped up compared to any time period at all? Why are you comparing to a time period?

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago) (1 children)

I wont bother replying after this unless you actually engage in the topic of discussion rather than constantly challenging the topic.

If you have a problem with the topic, then like I have repeatedly said, suggest a different frame of reference.

There has been more right wing violence (you know, the riots going on across the country?) than in the last x amount of years. More than the last 5 years. 10 years. 25 years.

What other right wing violence at the scale of the current riots and violence has there been? If you disagree then share an example.

Stop being obtuse.

edit

Why are you comparing to a time period

What other comparison is there? suggest a different comparison if you have a problem with … comparing today to historical events?

[–] [email protected] -3 points 2 months ago (1 children)

at the scale of the current riots and violence

You never mentioned scale. You've introduced a new concept. You're shifting the goal posts.

What other comparison is there? suggest a different comparison

Why is making a comparison important?

[–] [email protected] 1 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Ok. Clearly a troll. goodbye.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 months ago

Damn, I would have simply blocked the troll long before this! You have the patience of a saint.

It started with a horrifying knife attack where the perpetrator stabbed 11 children and killing 3 of them. 2 adults were also stabbed. This attack horrified the nation.

News stories alleged that the perpetrator was an Islamic illegal immigrant, social media did what it does best: whipping up emotions and exaggeration and feeding it to people with poorer standard of education.

The background here is that there are concerns surrounding illegal immigration in the UK, as it is sold by criminal gangs as a country of neverending riches. Some opinions are justified, and some are not.

As you can imagine, far right organisation jumped on this as an excuse to encourage shitty behaviour, and the worst of them used it as an excuse to have a tantrum and damage peopkes properly, attack people of different ethnicities and get themselves locked up for it.

TL:DR : Horrible racist and bigoted individuals made a tragedy about them, and now we all have to deal with their shittiness.

[–] [email protected] 15 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Something to add to this.

The people protesting against racism are counter-protesters. They are showing up to protest against the far right who are in turn protesting against migrants.

In the past couple of days they have been out-numbering the far right protesters by at least an order of magnitude, and a lot of the expected riots have been averted.

[–] [email protected] 7 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Outnumber a fascist ten to one and he tends to remember his manners.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 2 months ago

Only if one of the tens punches him in the goddamn mouth every time he speaks.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 2 months ago

You should add that the perpetrator was actually a British citizen, grew up in Britain.

They seem to not want immigrants. And I suspect "immigrant" means "doesn't look like me". In other words, it's just "they took are jerbs!"

The make-up and mindset of the citizenry doesn't change just because the government changes.

[–] [email protected] 0 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago) (1 children)

The make-up and mindset of the citizenry doesn't change just because the government changes.

It's a small minority from the far right rioting, with massive counter-protests. You're trying to say the whole population is rotten based on a few negative examples, which ironically is just what the racists are doing themselves.

[–] [email protected] 0 points 2 months ago (1 children)

You're trying to say the whole population is rotten based on a few negative examples

I'm not trying to say that. I've no idea why you think I am.

[–] [email protected] 0 points 2 months ago (1 children)

I think that because you're attributing those views to "the citizenry". I can only go on the words you've used, and you've used a word that describes the whole country's population, not a small minority.

[–] [email protected] -1 points 2 months ago

you're attributing those views to "the citizenry"

I haven't attributed anything to the citizenry. I wrote two distinct paragraphs, only one of which contained the word "citizenry".

Kremlin social media disinformation campaign causing civil unrest

More likely Mossad. Everyone's quick to blame Russia but Israel has the means and the motive.

There was huge riots against alleged immigrants and alleged muslim. Protests are about Racism is evil, rioters are assholes
