Damn god bless. For being like uhmmm...old I guess and just vaguely unpopular for unspecific reasons Biden's domestic policy has actually been great and really effective at chipping away at the big boys

Biden is old and probably on a steep cognitive decline. Who cares? Vote for the administration, not the man. The Biden Administration has proven highly competent. Anybody remember the clown show of s tier morons and fascists we had during the Trump administration? They set this country back decades.

This is my take. People are so obsessed with the two person race (or the media certainly positions it that way) that they forget that when you get a president, you get their people too.

Remember Ajit Pai? Yeah, people like him are coming back if Trump wins another term.

One day they will draw my name from the hat of forgiveness, right?

We can hope

I may have stored the paperwork next to my hopes and dreams.

This is great news! I hope one day my loan can get canceled too. I’d really like that $400/month back in my pocket.

Everyone’s student loans should be forgiven. It’s a net benefit for the whole country. If handouts were fine through Pedo Trump’s PPP loan scam, then what’s good for the goose is good for the gander. I know these student loans and the PPP scam aren’t remotely comparable but I’m just pointing out the hypocrisy of the whole situation.

Both scams, but at least one will improve society once paid off.

bank puts debt on people

instead of people repaying it, the govt pays the debt

I get that it's only for public servants etc. and after 10 years, but is this not just a state subsidized money funnel to the bank? Shouldn't the root cause of the unrepayable debt be resolved instead of this?

All of these loans are backed by the US government, not a private bank. Forgiving then is just the government writing it off. The only private entities involved are the borrower and potentially the school.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 4 months ago

Ah, that explains it. Thanks!

[–] [email protected] 2 points 4 months ago

I've always wondered if there is some way to make a tax argument against these loans. Like they're an illegal tax.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 4 months ago

Caveat. The private companies like nelnet and others are servicing the loans on behalf of the government but the loans are government backed.

Student debt shouldn't even be a thing. Do it like Europe and everyone, individuals and society, benefits.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 4 months ago

I truly wish but it looks like I'll be spending the next 20-40years fighting for children to get proper k-12 education...

[–] [email protected] 4 points 4 months ago (1 children)

The courts will roll this back. Trump made sure any progress will be undone for decades.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 4 months ago

Not for this. It's just using the current laws to forgive what should have already been forgiven.

Which sadly has been the large majority of what's been forgiven
