Spam links to hexbear in trans spots talking about it leslie-shining

Thus I have decreed

with the most active thread every week being the weekly trans thread featured on the front page, I think it'll be easier now to get queer people unsure about the scary tankie site to make an account

I've suspected for awhile that "it was unmoderated" is kind of a catchall for when reddit wants to ban a sub but doesn't have a real reason. Here's some more evidence to toss on that pile, I guess. Sucks that they took down this very helpful resource, fucking reddit

reddit has a system that declares mods as active and inactive (if you're a mod you can see who is active and not in the mod list), if reddit suspends the last remaining active mod on a subreddit, it sometimes will also ban the subreddit. So your subreddit can be banned for "unmoderated" just because it was a low traffic sub that didn't need moderation. No idea if this applies to the subreddit this post is about.

Also, if you're an inactive top mod, you might not be allowed to add/remove mods (not sure if this applies when there are no active mods).

Ya they'll come up with any reason they want. It's their product, they'll do what they wish.

[–] [email protected] 23 points 3 months ago

Oh they usually have a real reason, they just don't want to say what it is because that reason is what you'd expect from reddit-logo

The subreddit appears to have been restored. But this means they are currently considering a ban.

Hexbear should begin preparations to replace it.

[–] [email protected] 9 points 3 months ago

It's an active sub (last I checked which was a while ago), so if they had any good faith about this being about it being unmoderated then they would have posted a sticky asking for new mods as they have done in the past. So I agree. It's likely coming.

I found a YouTube link in your comment. Here are links to the same video on alternative frontends that protect your privacy:

Does anyone know the real reason for the ban, besides transphobia?

[–] [email protected] 37 points 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago) (1 children)

They're supposed to be against minors on there, and unaddressed reports could be the justification.

actually, seems to be a widespread ban

Ever since the API crackdown thing especially, they've going through and quietly banning all kinds of subs that might scare advertisers, or that they just don't like for political reasons. The venn diagram for those two things has a lot of overlap of course. They've been killing off small leftist subs (as we know, they killed off the bigger ones a while back now), piracy subs, porn subs (no tears shed from me about that, though I expect it will probably end up hurting sex workers too like that sort of thing always does) etc. I think r/piracy is so big that there would be enough backlash which makes reddit reluctant to axe it, but I expect it will be on the block too before much longer. But for example, r/fmovies was banned last month.

Anyway, I expect the ban on r/TransDIY is that part of the venn diagram that it scares advertisers and is something reddit is politically in opposition to. Like What_Religion_R_They said, the reasoning and justification they'll use is bullshit about it being potentially harmful to minors.

One thing I really hate about the unmoderated thing, not just because of stuff like this, but archival purposes. A subreddit becomes inactive, the mods lose interest? It's gone. You can't view any posts ever made on jt.

To use a minor example, the Dolan meme subreddit is banned for being unmoderated. Now, there's not much left of images of that meme. While there's not much value in that specifically, imagine what could happen if, say, some tech support or IT subreddit got banned for being unmoderated. It's well known how many in the IT field use Reddit for their job. So much documentation on many different systems could be gone forever.

And all because Reddit really wants that IPO.

[–] [email protected] 8 points 3 months ago

They already had an IPO, those who got to pre-buy stocks walked away with quite some nice cash

[–] [email protected] 38 points 3 months ago

It's back up luckily!!

looks like reddit had some shitty automation tool go wild and it banned a bunch of subs that shouldn't have been

If the ban gets miraclereversed we def need to.

Someone try a redditrequest lol

[–] [email protected] 21 points 3 months ago

You have to wait a month for that apparently

[–] [email protected] 19 points 3 months ago

Reddit banning gsrm subs, not surprising at all. Only trans experience allowed it the stereotypical and happy lib version, if you question that you run into a lot of shit on that hellsite.

[–] [email protected] 16 points 3 months ago

Oh great 😃
