Hello all! Was a reddit lurker for most of 13 years. Now I'm a new dad trying to find time for my hobbies (video games, drawing badly, and TTRPGs). I just moved back to the US after living in China for almost 9 years as a teacher.

Wow it's crazy having an intro thread - it's like a forum from 25 years ago! I love Lemmy feeling quite small and welcoming like this, awesome.
I am in the UK, have followed through various platforms since the 90s. I am old and sensible as my grown up screen name suggests.
I write and play a lot of table top roleplaying games (TTRPGs)!

*crumbles into dust*
I kid, but welcome! Speaking of TTRPGs, have you seen where some of these are on Itch.io these days? I've never gotten into them myself (not much for RPGs personally, and I don't have a tabletop group to play with), but I've found some of the art & settings interesting!
There are so many on itch - I have my games on there! The indie TTRPG scene is thriving and bigger than ever - I play mostly online, and Discord is a huge part of that nowadays. Very active communities!
Hello there! I'm a fellow Reddit refugee that quit after 10 years when Apollo shut down. I've got two very silly pups named Pippin and Sunny, a tortoise named Bowser, and a gerbil named Oreo.
I've been gaming since the 80's and haven't slowed down a bit. I'm currently playing WoW, Diablo 4, Tears of the Kingdom and Final Fantasy 16. I'd have to say that my favorite games of all time are Portal 1 and 2. I'm a big nerd and I love Legos, movies, books, art and ice cold martinis.
I'm very happy to be here :)
Hey all! I live in the Southern US. I'm an IT director. Hobbies include lifting weights, manga/manhwa/manhua, RPGs (currently running a D&D 5E campaign and playing in an OSRIC campaign), and cooking.
I deleted my Reddit account a few days ago, including all my posts and comments. I'm all in. Lemmy has been fantastic.
Isn't Lemmy great? I feel so positive about the Internet for the first time in years. Welcome.
Hello! I'm 58 from Missouri and I just signed up here tonight. I'm fairly techy. I remember connecting to various BBS while in school with my 24k modem on my Tandy 1000 from Radio Shack. But this is all a bit overwhelming and a little confusing. I'm committed to getting the hang of it all and ditching the other place. Picture of my dog that likes to sit on rocks.
I honestly miss all the local BBSs and FIDOnet. Life was much simpler.
I was an 11 year Reddit member, deleted my account yesterday.
Been here for a few hours and my nerves have already calmed, this feels like home!
Hello π I will first introduce my 10 year old cat Simba. He loves going outside and smell trees and flowers. He do not like to play for long because he hates losing. Loves cuddles and is very social with everyone. He sleeps a lot too close by π
And my self (with out Pic).
I am a developer. I like reading Manga and manhwa, play games, do any kind of physical activity with others. I also seem to like lemmy a lot because I have never written this much publicly before.
Thanks for having me :D
Snazzy looking keyboard as well! Are you a mechanical keyboard enthusiast?
I am all about it in a reasonable budget. It can be so extremely expensive very easily π It should feel great but it doesn't have to be perfect. These are ec Sakura from varmilo :D they are great!
Hello!! I just signed up! I'm still trying to figure everything out over here. Been on reddit for 10 years or so and thought I'd check out all this.
Not much to say about myself really... I'm quite boring.
Iβm new here and just wanted to try to post something to see if I understand the process. (Iβm an old man who thinks and moves slowly)
Hello! I'm also from Reddit, for like 11yrs. I usually don't post anything online ever, but I am going to try to contribute here sometimes. :) My hobbies/interests are anything PokΓ©mon, arts and crafts, reading, TV, gaming, cats, cooking, plants, Critical Role and paranormal/true crime podcasts. I have 2 doofy cats, Loki and Xandis. Currently, I am super duper excited for Baldur's Gate 3! Also excited to make hopefully the best potato salad I've ever made tomorrow.
Any suggestions for paranormal podcasts?
Yess! :) Astonishing Legends is what really got me into paranormal podcasts! They have good host chemistry, it's fun to listen to them. They go on tangents a lot. Highly recommend the Mothman, Black Eyed Kids and Vertical Plane episodes! And That's Why We Drink is fun, it's a couple of friends, one tells a paranormal story, one tells a true crime story. This Paranormal Life is sillier, they take turns telling each other paranormal stories, then they vote on whether they think it's real or not. Haunted Road - host tells a story about a place, then speaks to someone who works there and they discuss what they've experienced there, or what guests have experienced. Scared To Death - a couple tell each other scary stories, and try to scare each other. Spooked - different people telling their paranormal stories every episode. This one is usually really well made, the stories are really interesting! Used to be mostly a premium subscription podcast, but is now free!
Thanks!
I know And That's Why We Drink and Haunted Road. They've gotten off the radar in a podcatcher move a couple of years ago. I'll have to check out the others.
Do you ever catch The Ghost Story Guys or Unexplained? Wild Thing is also pretty good; it's produced by a couple of former NPR reporter/producers. For true crime, what do you think of The Opportunist?
How's the potato salad? ;)
Awesome! Haha, I haven't heard of The Ghost Story Guys or The Opportunist, but I'm going to check them out! :) any episode recommendations? I do have Wild Thing in my subscribed podcasts, but I don't know if I've listened yet, going to download some eps! It turned out great! Homemade mayo! :D
Season one of The Opportunist is a multipart documentary about a single person. It would be hard to make episode recommendations, although any of the one- and two-shot stories in the second season are good. The Ghost Story Guys best episodes are late season one and anything up to the end of 2020. In January 2021, one of the hosts was replaced and the show format became a lot looser and much longer.
Homemade mayo is the best! Especially if it's made with bacon grease rather than another oil. :)
Hey everyone, velvet here :) I am a developer with a revolving door of interests and hobbies. Lately I've been interested in true crime/horror, the Sims, aerial sports, and hanging out with my cat and two aussie pups! This is my first time joining the Fediverse after 12 years on Reddit, nice to meet you all!
Horror in which medium?
Hey. I'm a Reddit refugee, long time internet lurker, and general weirdo. This is my absolute first Lemmy comment, so um... hi. Here's my dog as toll.
Hi! I'm both a Reddfugee and genuinely curious about the fediverse / Lemmy.
But enough about me, I wanted to introduce my pet boat....uh.... Boaty McBoatface. She's pretty cool, especially since she's floating in some water in some location.
Hi! Here are a few of my wee friends - they're very hard workers and I'm very proud of them.
Crappy photo because it's hard taking a photo in a bee suit and gloves. :-)
Hello world.
I mostly do tabletop hobby projects, Iβve got both a huge backlog to post and some new stuff coming up. I also do generally creative projects including worldbuilding a little scifi space adventure universe that I started way back when I needed to keep myself sane at work.
Iβm here to add as much original content as I can for quality.
Hello. Was on Reddit for 10 years and been here six days now. I'm here mostly for science, news, fiction, games and finding new stuff. Got over the urge to look at Reddit already, but am taking this new poison. The fediverse with its different instances gives a feeling of smaller communities comming together which is both true and nice.
Hello. I'm a a Reddit refugee, I mostly lurked though. I'm in my mid 20s. Here are my birds.
hello! first year engineering student from chile!
on the spectrum and really love SciFi π
Hi, I'm WhyTrashEarth... I want to make people happy, improve our Earth, and explore Lemmy.World... I'm always here to help my friends so feel free to ask! I have lots of friends who use/used reddit, never really understood the appeal of it... However, I figured I'd try Lemmy out. I learned about this site because of MentalOutlaw from YouTube. Hello Lemmy World!
Hey, I'm Tobor. Migrated from another instance and I like it here! My interests are all over the place, but at the moment: Zelda, drawing, poetry and plants. Nice to meet you all π
I'm @nihilist_hippie, I came here to scroll. I was on Reddit from 2011 till today. I'm hoping Lemmy takes off, and some of the interface kinks get ironed out. I'm considering trying to get more people to come aboard. I like techie stuff, and music, and news, and memes.
Count me as another Reddit refugee! Happy to have found Lemmy and hope to support a growing and vibrant community. I'll likely be in lurker mode (we introverts are good at that) as I learn my way around. Thank you for the FAQ - very helpful! I don't have a boat but do have a couple of cats and dogs. I enjoy art, books, music, humor, nature and technology. And yes, I've been around since the days of dial-up (who can forget that sound, right?) Grateful to be here.
Hi I'm a guy with four cats who's just here to see cat pictures mostly. My cats just want to sleep, so I get on here to watch other people's cats do fun stuff.
Hello Mostly_Frogs, I am the ~~slave~~ owner of five cats and I am also here for the cats! I havenβt quite figured out posting cats quite yet. I mean, I have posted, but the pic either turns out sideways or it posts as a link instead of a picβ¦ Iβll figure it out.
Iβm not sure about Lemmy yet. But it sure felt nice to post a cat photo after a couple weeks of Reddit chaos
Hello Lemmy! I have joined this community due to the current API crisis and the increasingly worse experience I've been having on Reddit recently. I hope I can permanently settle down in this place and call it home from now on! Too bad there aren't any communities for some of my niche interests atm though. π’
It's time to create those communities! Be the change you want to see!
Edit: remembered
Hello folks.
Reddit veteran since around 2010.
Likes - Guitar-playing, kayaking, hiking, fishing, cooking, craft beer, camping, photography, cursed memes
Dislikes - Steve "the sleeve" Huffman
Canadian girl from the prairies here! Glad to have found Lemmy as my new home. Telling everyone and anyone about it! Love how small and new it feels. I actually feel I can post and comment without too much negativity so am slowly getting out of my lurker mode. Not so much on this account but you can find me trying to be chatty on both mander.xyz and sh.itjust.works (my main).
Happy to meet other Lemmies!
Hey there! Iβm another Reddit refugee looking to make a new home here. After a couple of false starts (not with Lemmy) I finally looked at this site for ease of use. Iβm hoping to bring over a few other Reddit refugees from my favourite subs in the near future and expect to be settling in quite soon. Iβm also wanting to create a community for my special interest - just not sure how Iβll go about that at the moment since thereβll be a couple of decisions to be made. Now for a proper look around.
