Title says it all - a space for you to vent about anything on your mind, or tell us about something cool going on. Hope you've all been well!

Remember, you're loved stalin-heart

Not much going on here. Still cracking away on recordings, have a few releases lined up. If anyone wants the new Plague shit, DM me. Beyond that, gotta get groceries and BP meds tomorrow. Beyond that, just protecting the corgi from any storms tonight, starting the Sky Island arc in One Piece with my partner, and playing Persona 5. Storms for the next 24 hours, so I'm all cozy and snug. LOVE LOVE LOVE this weather, and the best part is its not too cold out!

Beyond the usual, just fretting about work and money. Got a super good in at a local housing org (wont say more), but haven't heard back yet. It'd be super swell to have a job I could wake up to and feel good about, something with some actual social benefit and not enterprise/b2b crap.

Also I've almost gone through a 2lb bag of coffee in under a week, so that seems like a lot? I dunno. If I want to avoid a nap I'll drink a Monster on top of it. Caffeine fiends rise up I guess. almost 5 months no booze now, so its an improvement at the very least!

Better than the usual.

  • I got my rent for the month of April covered, thanks to mutual aid support.
  • I had a really good job interview today that went even better than most "good" job interviews. The interviewer seemed to think favorably of me. Unlike most interviews I've gone to, it didn't end with him saying "I got a few other candidates to consider.", but instead, it ended with him saying "I think you'd be a great fit, but I have to let my manager know what we went over first before I offer you the position.".
  • In case that doesn't work out, I'm getting queer-friendly job recommendations from the mutual aid community that helped me get out of the rent pit.

I'm not getting my hopes too high, but if I secure that position, I'd feel a lot more stable. It's full-time and pays even better than my last job. Not only that, but it just seems to have entirely better vibes. It's also definitely friendly to the gays™.

Fingers crossed. The only thing scaring me right now is uncertainty.

Living in my car right now, have been for about 6 months, work pays enough for me to not die but not really save with my expenses. Hard to switch work cuz of my childcare schedule with my ex. Might change soon tho, might move in with ex and kids and work together to move to another state. Also exs dogs ate my glasses, can't see shit ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Dad was being an ass to me today about money, the usual. He'll blow over in a day or two, outside of that not much to report. Mr. Softie's been throwing up a lot recently and that has me a little concerned but he's still acting himself.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 6 months ago (1 children)

Sending my best hugs and snuggles to both you and Mr Softie rat-salute-2

May he soldier on to glory and catnip

[–] [email protected] 5 points 6 months ago

I should drop some catnip on him tonight so he can eat it and thanks.

I'm letting my friend stay in my apartment for 10 days while he's between leases, and while he didn't have to, he offered to help me clean. I felt kinda guilty about how little I clean my apartment. I feel lazy, like, if I ever have a long term relationship, I'll be a terrible boyfriend or husband for how little I clean.

But on the other hand, having him just there makes it easier for me to do my tasks.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 6 months ago

These things can be negotiated in a relationship.

Of course partners do have to roll up their sleeves and participate in some of the unglamorous jobs some of the time, you might find someone who doesn't mind cleaning but who hates cooking or who gets exhausted by shopping where you would prefer to do those things all day as long it meant you could avoid doing an hour's worth of cleaning.

An equitable arrangement with a partner doesn't necessarily mean each person does half of the domestic duties.

I'm neurodivergent and I struggle with executive function so here are some tips to consider (although they may come off as bougie but, at least in my situation, these are accomodations):

  • If you and future partners just both hate cleaning then consider hiring a cleaner because it's pretty much an investment in your free time and ultimately in the relationship itself

  • If you hate cleaning then investing in a robot vacuum is worthwhile, especially if it has one of those mop pad attachments. It doesn't have to be the expensive, fancy ones that have a specific mopping mode because the simple mop pads can actually do a fair bit by themselves.

  • I like to use reusable cleaning cloths and similar (e.g. flat mop cleaning pads) and to have extras on hand so whenever one cloth gets dirty I can just put it aside to dry and then it goes into a laundry bag. Once the laundry bag is full I wash the whole lot and dry them in one go rather than only having one or two on hand and needing to screw around and constantly handwash them

  • Similar to the above but having cleaning gear on hand where it gets used - my kitchen has one of those magic brooms with a lobby pan so I can really easily and quickly sweep up anything and mostly I don't need to give a damn about emptying the pan for ages, a flat mop with a sprayer so I can instantly do spot cleaning quicker and easier than you'd be able to do it with paper towel and cleaning spray, plenty of spare cotton dishcloths so that any time one gets a bit dirty I just put it aside to be washed, I'm a big fan of having a spray bottle with diluted dishwashing liquid in it so I can just clean a couple of dishes without needing to fill up the sink. In my bathroom, I have a cleaning cloth and cleaning spray hanging in the shower and it's worth having a squeegee too especially one that has a foam side for cleaning/scrubbing glass.

I just try to make cleaning tasks as frictionless as possible, essentially.

There's other stuff that works but basically one of the best ways to manage cleaning duties is to break it up into little tasks where you can spend just a couple of minutes or less doing something as maintenance cleaning, especially when you've got time to kill or as you notice it. Instead of looking at your shower glass getting grubbier and grubbier while you think to yourself "I've really gotta do something about that...", having the equipment on hand to do it then and there lowers the barrier to getting it done by a lot.

Also this is probably going to sound weird but a lot of people who struggle with cleaning had it assigned to them as a chore or, worse yet, as a punishment. I'm all in favour of kids being assigned responsibilities and contributing to their homes, don't get me wrong, but if you teach a kid that a task is drudgery then you're guiding them to hate those tasks as an adult. Four things help with this:

  1. Making it fun - put on some music or a podcast, allow yourself to be playful or silly or to turn it into a game like a race against the clock if it increases your enjoyment of it

  2. Lowering your expectations on yourself - 50% clean is a lot cleaner than 0% clean. Not every job requires being a deep or perfect clean. Doing half of the dishes pile is still an accomplishment.

  3. Treats. Either give yourself something enjoyable as a reward for tasks or x mins of cleaning completed, or intersperse rounds of gaming or episodes of a show with a set cleaning tasks or designated number of minutes cleaning (e.g. between episodes I will run a timer and do 5 mins of tidying up.)

  4. Actually take the time to appreciate your efforts and your work. Show gratitude to yourself and mentally congratulate yourself on what you have achieved, even if it's only small.

That's good! Glad it's working out! 10 days is a while, hope things stay cool!

[–] [email protected] 4 points 6 months ago* (last edited 6 months ago) (1 children)

Keepin up with stuff, barely lol

Also drinking a ton of coffee lately. I would love to hear the new material if its not a huge hassle! And I hope you get that gig! I've always wanted a job that was actually like, helping people not just either useless or harmful.

I've been bringing coffee and other supplies to a local homeless encampment. And helping out a little with the dope DIY electrolysis machine project that's going on around here: https://hexbear.net/post/2141809

Gotta stop eating out for fast/shitty food so much but I can almost justify it if I stay so busy that I simply don't have time to get groceries or cook. But its whatever. I'm a little lonely but I have some great friends and lots of cool shit to do

[–] [email protected] 3 points 6 months ago

Hell yeah! That all sounds great! And shoot me a DM for the new stuff, I've got 2 cuts I can send you

Decidedly mixed. I work for a nonprofit, which is awesome, but I'm not getting enough shifts to get by and I'm wondering if the org is actually doing okay. I'm studying nutrition with the goal of ending up doing food equity work. I'm getting pretty good marks but holy shit the barriers capitalism puts up against public health are fucking depressing. Got some volunteer work lined up to get more involved in community support. Could be worse I guess. Feel like I'm not getting enough done fast enough.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 6 months ago (1 children)

I don't suppose the nonprofit you're at hires remote people?

[–] [email protected] 1 points 6 months ago* (last edited 6 months ago) (1 children)

For suitable roles I don't see why we wouldn't, but the only things going at the moment are volunteer, and onsite. In Australia.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 6 months ago

Right on. I suspect our time zone differences renders my original question moot. Thanks for the reply!

Someone somewhere in my apartment building has been blasting some kind of UNTS UNTS UNTS music basically nonstop for 3 days. I am sleep deprived and very pissed off. I'm almost ready for adventure.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 6 months ago

Go see if they're partying. Maybe they'll share snacks.
