Democrats may be better for traditional markers of the economy, but 50 years of neoliberalism from both parties has resulted in a K-shaped economy. One that is great if you already have wealth (which is what things like GDP and inflation tell you), but one that is terrible and getting worse if you are a regular person. Neither party has done anything to actually fix the systemic issues that caused this, so when status-quo Dems claim to be better for working people, we can all see that for the lie it is.
Her support for genocide was certainly a glaring weakness, but what really lost her the election is that the majority of left-leaning voters are sick of status quo corporate policies. Democrats keep trying to court the Sunday brunch crowd, when the economy is so bad that the brunch crowd doesn't even exist anymore. The Dems have alienated the left-wing so completely that they ran fucking Liz Cheney as VP. But even that strategy was stupid because why would right wingers vote for Republicans-lite?
The veil is starting to fall on US politics, and the people starting to realize that American Democracy is a dream, not reality.
Why should they? We’ve given them no reason to fear us. My district can’t even vote out our congressman who is owned by Israel and AI companies, we definitely can’t organize a movement large enough to threaten the Supreme Court.
Tell Iran this isn’t a full-fledged war… and minimizing it only serves the interests of imperialism.
What are you even talking about?
While inflated CEO pay is certainly outrageous, it's the people who own the businesses that we should reserve our most vitriolic hate for. After all, at least CEOs do work that marginally contributes to the running of enterprises. Shareholders do nothing except siphon profit away from the people who create it. Not saying CEOs are good, but let's not get shortsighted here: the entire system of private ownership of the means of production is what needs to change for things to get better.
Even the state is inherent to capitalism. Capitalists rely on the state to stifle competition and enact imperialism. States are a fundamental feature of capitalism, and “free markets” are a myth.
Every single thing that people criticize socialism or socialist countries for is literally just a description of capitalism.
Israel was always a genocidal project, that’s what settler-colonialism is.
I find it interesting that the study focused on power holders within the capitalist system, which incentivizes selfish behavior, greed, and abuse of power. In a system that does not incentivize those things, I think there would be very different results.
It's almost like capitalism is inherently incompatible with democracy.
