I’m not too familiar with the politics behind all of this, especially around that time.

since president nixon, there's been a well documented trend of gov't programs intentionally starved of federal resources, with the goal of justifying private industry taking over services those programs once provided themselves. spacex is probably the most modern manifestation of this trend.

those "pros and cons" are a false framing intended to steer your opinion away from the question of why nasa can't do this themselves anymore.

the last time nasa did this themselves, humanity got smartphones and modern medicine but when spacex does this, the only thing that happens is an epstein oligarch gets A LOT richer.

not blocking vendors wholesale; rather more like blocking "non-compliant" devices that dis proportionally affect certain vendors.

and the privacy community is probably the best source for these options.

i suspect that this narrative has morphed from cointelpro-conspiracy-theory into cointelpro-brainwormed-people; but cointelpro was so successful that it's turned into a global maga-like cult that refuses to accept evidence that's available to them -- evidence that's literally created by the cointelpro people themselves btw -- simply because it's not spoonfed to them via their tv's or phones or wikpedia.

so I don’t know if they’re more picky about what you use.

no one knows how picky they're going to be 5-ish years from now because the borders of our self-imposed & AI-driven panopticon are going to be in a state of flux for at least another decade.

did your device come with openwrt?

I’m honestly too busy not dying of poverty and American healthcare to decipher a poorly made meme.

i'm convinced that this is the reason why westerners -- americans in particular -- support ukraine in this conflict. (or atleast i want to believe this)

it's clear you're missing 2 key pieces of information that you can't be blamed for not knowing because our media won't talk about it.

  1. the nazi thing was so pervasive in ukraine that congress decided to ban weapons sales to ukraine because of it and then it was later lifted it when russia became involved.

  2. russia became involved because A) nato expansion has always threatened russian existence and B) said nazis took over the ukrainain gov't with the american gov'ts help and started shelling the people in eastern ukraine (just like isreal is doing to gaza rght now) when they voted to join russia because of said nazisim

here's a whole bunch of sources if you want to know more details: https://docs.google.com/document/d/12Hi1pOYSjJ1umb72CTNzvJ7e4wfhEfk1Hn3AxjGE4go/edit?tab=t.0

edit: and Wikipedia too. There’s ‘a guy’ that makes pro-war edits every day of the week, from 7AM to 7PM without ever taking a day off, not even on the weekends or for Christmas or other holidays. Let’s be real, this isn’t a guy, it’s an organization behind the account (some suspect MI6, I have no idea personally). Wikimedia foundation gets money from Congress. They have the money to do so, quite frankly, they would be fools not to do it. I think liberals can understand as much lol. If you have all this money, you can just throw it at things to reinforce people’s opinion that you deserve to have all this money.

i present to you the response you get when you point out that wikipedia is filled w intentional misinformation that liberals should be able to understand: https://lemmy.ml/post/47923818/25908481

Unions need to fill this void, as they’ve done in the past. But I don’t want to see my co-workers on my off days.

SERIOUSLY!!!

bring back the bowling/baseball/poker game socials and the themed bbq/potlucks in the park/beaches.

i hope that these images continue to haunt the internet for generations to come so that future liberals can have a chance to learn how morally bankrupt their predecessors had been.

anyone know why my comments in this is thread disappear immediately after posting?

you can set your view page to subscribed, local or all

however lemmy has morphed such that most instances have a high level of activity for one or a few of its communities and almost none for its others.

having the ability to set your view page to comments will let you see the updates in the communities you care about.

having the ability to follow commenters will show you the content that they create in communities you're now aware exist.

my home server that does everything died many weeks ago so i've been making due with VASTLY inferior backups that literally haven't received updates in over a decade because the manufacturers stop supported them.

i've rebuilt this server many times from old e-waste i had laying around and my last attempt to solicit feedback on the last rebuild yeilded some VERY useful advice so i'm hoping to lightening strikes twice.

my constraints are that i can only use hardware that i have on hand; with the exception of a motherboard since i don't have a functional one this time around, so i plan on buying one used off of craigslist or one of the many local repair shops.

also: deepseek tells me that this hardware are the only things i have on hand that are compatible with each other (and i'm crossing my fingers in the hopes that some of them still work):

  • CPU: socket LGA1200 era Intel Celeron
  • RAM: 64 gigs DDR4 3200 on 2 128 pin sticks
  • CASE: mini itx steel case
  • POWER: ATX standard
  • DRIVES: 4 SATA, 1 PATA, 2 NVME

i also have a wifi3 router/ap and a wifi4 router/ap combo boxes; these are the backups i'm currently using and they are crazy slow.

i need this build to do the same thing its predecessor did which were (ranked in order of importance):

  • router (i used a pfsense virtual machine last time)
  • wifi access point (i last used a wifi nic in AP mode)
  • DNS adblocking (i used pfBlockerNG last time)
  • live kernel patching (used ubuntu last time)
  • vlan segmentation (via pfsense)
  • vpn routing (via pfsense)
  • jbod drives (aka no raid nor HA and permanently mounted on the host)
  • backup capabilities (last used rsync initiated server side to laptops & - gmail)
  • per device firewall rules (for the robot vacuum and security cameras)
  • IDS & IPS (via pfsense)
  • home cloud storage (last used pfsense + nfs + sshfs + ddns)
  • multimedia system (last used kodi + old plasma tv)

take it with a grain of salt; ramos [the guy in the pic next to his daughter] is a US imperialist to the core.

The initial answer was mild, condemning the repression in both countries but declining to call them "dictators." However, his campaign sent a much more contundent position days after the interview:

" I want to be clear on where I stand. I believe both Nicolas Maduro and Miguel Diaz-Canel are dictators. Their administrations have stifled free and fair elections, jailed political opponents, and suppressed the free and fair press. And yet, our federal government's long history of punitive policies toward both countries, including extrajudicial killings of Venezuelans and the continuation of a decades long blockade of Cuba, have only worsened these conditions. Democratic socialism is about dignity, justice and accountability. And above all, it's about building a democracy that works for working people, not one that preys on them."

madeline pendelton playing out the typical conversation flow between a leftist and a liberal about american actions in destabilizing ukraine.

tldr: you get called a tankie for pointing out the things that the american gov't publicly admits it's doing to ukraine. lol
