The origin is murky, but watermelon has been used as slang for "green on the outside, red on the inside" implying ecological concern as being inherently socialist / communist.

I just saw the image when searching for solarpunk images, thought the hastags were kinda cute. Watermelon has also been more recently used as a symbol for Palestine.

total electricity capacity of the planet— not just solar, but nuclear, coal, gas, and renewable energy, all added together — was about 10 terawatts. Now China can pump out a full terawatt worth of solar panels each year. The country’s solar capacity grew at a compound rate of 11.7 percent annually from 2020 to 2024. That’s nearly triple the global average of 4.24 percent over the same four-year period, a gap that points to something more like an industrial revolution than mere competitive advantage.

Definitely some sort of revolution involved in this growth rate.

On a global scale, the glut of Chinese solar panels has dropped the average cost of electricity to 4 cents a kilowatt hour, in what may be the cheapest form of energy we’ve ever seen. And keep an eye on that figure: it could easily keep coming down.

I think the critical thing to understand is that liberalism has a lot of "beliefs" that don't reconcile the contradictions that are materially obvious to anyone taking a critical perspective about it. The phrase "the purpose of a system is what it does" comes to mind. This is a statement in contradiction to the core "belief" in idealism with regards to the political consciousness of liberals generally. The result is what you are describing, which can often also be categorized under the topic of "western chauvinism" for a lot of people that think they can straddle the line between liberalism and leftism (anti-capitalism). So from a materialist/Marxist analysis there really is nothing concrete in their beliefs in a sense. It's just like hasbara for the status quo, their belief is that liberalism can explain itself sufficiently to be considered the "least worst option", which is obviously false from a materialist analysis. I think the phrase is mostly gesturing at the concept of false consciousness that is common amongst liberalism defenders.

So in the mind of a liberal, they believe a lot of things, but they can't really explain those beliefs with any serious analysis of reality, only via thought terminating cliches and appeals to the status quo.

Maybe make a claim of what you think liberals believe in, and then someone can respond to you about that. Framing this as asking people to prove a negative is not really going to work out so well.

Maybe Valve can convince all the business ghouls that any profit margin over 30% is illegal. That would be the real gaming the system move for GabeN and co.

3d printed semi-auto 9mm carbine looks very cyberpunk, and is named after the Potoo bird that was a staple meme species.

The gun's name is a reference to the common potoo, also known as "The Ghost Bird."

Been looking into some different hardware options, but don't quite know what the usability is like between different standalone devices versus using an app via bluetooth, etc. Some basic description of user experience might be useful.

Seems like some potentially useful tech to get experience with asap.

Continued USA hegemony is the greatest threat to the planet. Anti-Imperialism is most critical to having any chance at improving the situation on this planet.

Der Tiger, whose English title is The Tank, stars David Schütter, Laurence Rupp, Leonard Kunz, Sebastian Urzendowsky and Yoran Leicher, with supporting roles from the likes of Tilman Strauß and André M. Hennicke.

Set on the Second World War’s Eastern Front in 1943, it follows the tank crew as they operate secretly behind the heavily contested front line. Journey eastward, they find themselves in deeper in enemy territory as they face their own fears and inner demons. Stimulated by Wehrmacht methamphetamine, the mission increasingly becomes a journey into the heart of darkness.

It's being referred to as an "anti-war movie" in some of the reviews. Anyone seen it? Seems like it might potentially have some allegory for NATO-brained Euros, but probably not so intentionally? Really curious how it portrays the Eastern Front (I would guess it has at least a bit of anti-Soviet elements).

The initial SYNC phrase is

Response ACK phrase is

Happy New Year.

SYNC-ACK is "we will win" hand gesture from both parties.
