We’ve just been told we can’t remain in the camp anymore. The host community no longer wants us there, and now over 300 LGBTQ+ refugees from Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi, Congo, and Ethiopia ...have been moved to Juba while we wait for our resettlement interviews.

UNHCR says they’ve run out of funds and cannot support us. Part of this crisis is due to deep funding cuts to humanitarian programs during the Trump administration cuts that are still impacting vulnerable communities like ours today.

They’ve told us there’s no shelter available, and finding a safe house big enough for all of us could put us at even greater risk. So we’ve been told to "blend in" ...but for openly queer and trans refugees that’s a dangerous and impossible ask.

I’m trying to raise enough to rent a small, safe apartment in Juba for myself and a few of my sisters. A place to breathe, rest, and survive while the process moves forward.

Basic food and water

Hygiene supplies

Emergency transportation or medicine

Hi there everyone. I have really bad teeth and used to get tooth infections all the time. It's been a few years, but I have one now. It's slow to develop and I'm still hoping it'll find a way to drain itself, but I've been urged by my friends to go ahead and go get antibiotics, so I'm going to take the advice I know to be wise. I'm old hat at this, they'll give me antibiotics and tell me to go to a dentist, and I will take the meds and not go to a dentist because even with dental insurance now I can't even begin to afford copays when I can't pay rent or feed myself. All of my teeth need to be removed, just to start.

I scheduled an appointment with the local urgent care thingy (CareSpot) tomorrow after work. I'd paid all my bills (or so I thought...), set aside my rent money for this week in a money order, minus the $50 for the copay for tomorrow. And then my phone bill hit. This is like my second month having a phone bill again after probably a year not having a carrier. It's only $14 and change. But now I'm short on my copay. I can't extract money from that money order as it is made out to my apartment complex already, and I also do not have a physical bank.

tl;dr: tooth infection, need urgent care copay $50 for tomorrow to go get antiobiotics, set money aside but phone bill snuck up on me, need $15.

We're struggling with poverty (only having a meal per day, sometimes not even that), health issues (recently had two of my teeth form a cavity and sharp pain from them)

I developed a deep fear of the outside world and people, which has paralyzed my ability to find work (my mom depression, among other health conditions she needs care for) and improve our situation and I would need regular therapy which is expensive

The situation is further complicated by caring for many animals, especially cats that I rescued on the street while we were in a better place. Now they remain and their health (and their offsprings) is at risk, and we can't afford vital veterinary care and food, leaving many suffering or dying

I could try to build a path to financial independence online, but our only computer is a very old laptop from the early 2000s, which makes it nearly impossible

Hello Comrades, I don’t know how to begin. Things have become incredibly heavy and frightening for me and my trans sisters here in South Sudan.

On May 23rd, the host community in Gorom Camp began pushing hard for our removal. We've faced constant hostility as trans refugees called devils, told we go against their culture but now it’s escalated. When conflict erupted in the area, they warned the UNHCR that they would "take matters into their own hands." That threat has now turned into action.

UNHCR and government officials recently held a general meeting and told us not to return to the camp “before anything worse happens.” Those still hiding in the camp were given only 10 days to leave, and they were clear: transgender people like me would be the first targets.

You may remember when our shelter was attacked. No one was held accountable. That was when we fled to Juba, seeking safety. But Juba is unaffordable. We’ve been surviving at a local church, barely getting by and now even thinking of going back to the camp seemed like an option… until this.

I’m tired. I’m scared. I’m doing my best to stay strong for my sisters, but it’s hard. We’re being forced out again with nowhere to go. I’m sharing this because I believe in solidarity. I believe someone out there will care.

I got paid Friday, a couple days early because of the 3 day weekend. First thing I did was pay my bills, so phone/internet/power are taken care of. I paid back some money I borrowed from my mom, got a few necessities and some things for a nice dinner with a couple girlfriends. I had a good evening after work, and just wanted to relax for the weekend. I had something like $700 in the account still, and finally felt like I could maybe start saving for facial hair removal.

Fast forward to this morning. I'm finally getting caught up on sleep, so of course I make the mistake of checking my phone. Email from my bank, my account is overdrawn... by $341. I've been crying ever since.

We just got direct deposit re-enabled, and as far as I can tell, it allowed the companies holding my debts to take as much as they wanted. As I posted a few days ago, it seems as though my partner and I may have finally caught ourselves a break. Starting on 5-28-2025 my partner's parents have agreed to allow us to stay in their fully furnished, really nice condition, camper that is on the side of their house. We will have full access to the basement of the house which includes a washer and dryer, a full kitchen, and a bathroom. Our only dilemma however is the cold hard fact that currently we lack the amount of money needed in order to move in. We are still $80 short and it is needed by tomorrow.
